I. Am. Going. To. Hate. Monday. I have to completely fast after midnight, and I don't report for surgery until 10:30. That probably means the surgery doesn't start until noon. I can easily go without food, but I might cheat a tiny bit on water. I'm gonna throw up after surgery anyway, I might as well earn it.

The person buying the calves took all but one. I had warned her in advance about his disposition (he smashed into me twice yesterday), and as soon as we walked in the pen, the calf exploded out of the group and attacked us. Robert was able to get him into another pen away from us, and we left him there. On Sunday, I'll either take him to the sale barn to sell, or I'll shoot him in self defense. I have no idea why that one calf is so nasty. From the time he was born he was spooky and we couldn't catch him to tag him. Last fall he escaped from us and didn't get tagged, vaccinated or castrated. This spring we finally caught him and gave him the works, as well as weaned him. He never showed any sign of nastiness, though, until last evening. Other calves got the same treatment and didn't get mean.

Heidi, my car is usually pretty good, but not at the moment. I figure I'll get it tidy again when I'm not ferrying Dana everywhere!

MizT, wish I could join you for the mexican pot pie! After I demolish some of Heidi's takeout... no!! I've just turned the page and it's closed! No vicarious chinese food for me today..

Evening all.

D's black lab had to be put down today, so we have a sad household here. When she first got the dog (Dakota), I looked after her for 8 months, trained her, etc. She was 12 and a half years old. She will be buried on the family farm tomorrow.

Heidi, don't read the next part. Hubby and I went out for Chinese food tonight. Yum.

Theresa, sorry to hear about Dakota. It is hard to lose a furry family member. Thinking of you and your family.

Heidi, sorry about the Chinese takeout.

Thanks Heidi. It certainly is going to be quiet around here - no more warning barks when someone comes onto the property (or near the property). I will definitely miss her.

Theresa - sorry to hear about D's dog.
Heidi - will have you in my thoughts on Monday.
Suzy - child care costs are so weird, as well as what centrelink covers. I think it depends where they go - certainly does for before/after school and vacation care. Andrew gets a far better deal with Em than his ex gets with the other 2.

My post isn't here!! Wonder if I swore?

Theresa, so sorry to hear about Dakota. It's the same as losing a people family member!

Tahli is punishing Dana for leaving her for the night. She was screaming, I took her and she stopped, gave her back to Dana, she started screaming again, I took her back and she stopped. Dana was close to tears. I got her to sit in my seat and it was like magic. No tears since - from either of them..

Theresa, I was babysitting and/or shopping, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Dana is happy because she is forgiven, I'm happy because I'm freeeee... Although she is normal sized now (normal for a younger baby, but not super teeny) I thought people would stop perving on her, but she is still a rock star.

Dilemma or actually tough time, I really know what we have to do. Alie has reached the limit of what her singing teacher can teach her and still has a lot she wants to learn. Alie would be nothing without this girl and we all know it, but it's time to get another teacher. We don't want to hurt her so will probably go out of town, but it's still going to hurt, I'm looking for ideas about how we can approach this without hurting her too badly.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Suzy, honesty may be the best way to approach the teacher. She might be thinking the same thing. It is funny about Tahlia, you and Dana. When my mom would come over, Mitchell would not come back to me. It worked the same with hubby's mother. At the day care he was at as an infant, they would play "pass the baby." Mitchell would go to anybody until he got to this one young teacher, about 19. He would not leave her. She was his favorite and he was her favorite and she did not care who knew. I knew he was getting great care as long as she was there.

Hubby and I are about to go to the store for a few errands. Dylan is coming, Mitchell is staying with Harley and to do his homework.

Harley just jumped in my lap and tried to get to my coffee.

I am starting to feel a little better.

For Theresa and family:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Good Morning friends. Lovely low humidity day, cool to start. I need to get out and water flowers and enjoy it.

My sis is sick, has not been down in a month, was coming thursday and got sicck. I had thought about going up there, but doc said it was probably viral, therefore contagious. Don't need to share with her :).

Yesterday, I realized that I had gone out 4 days in a row, and I was not hurting more for it! That is marginally amazing, but I did enjoy my rest day at home. Just flung a bit of food, read, did some ffuts I had let slide while being out and about.

I need to take boxes to Joy today or tomorrow. she is in a panic now. closing in coming Friday, moving the weekend and she does not even have movers scheduled, on a holiday 3 day weekend. she is so like her father, procrastinate, does this to herself, but she gets in a panic about it as it gets closer.

Off to enjoy the outdoors, hope to get back and comment on what I read this morning. Hugs to eah of you, with extras.

Suzy, maybe you could ask the current music teacher how far she thinks she can go with Alie. Maybe she herself realizes she can't go much further. I agree with Tami about honesty. If the current one finds out you have gone behind her back, she will be twice as angry.

Thanks MizT - I love that poem. The day before Dakota was put down I went over to see her because she was not well. When nobody was around I told her she would soon be going away, and that I would come to see her across the Rainbow Bridge some day. She gave me a long look almost as if she understood!

Glad you're starting to feel better, Tami.

We just got back from getting the groceries. Hubby will soon be going to the vet to pick up Dakota's body - he is taking her to his parents' farm to bury her. The vet's office froze Dakota, but after an hour and a half in the car I imagine she will be starting to "defrost".

Heidi, enjoy your day at the races and I hope everything goes well on Monday.
Got up to feed the cat. She does not like to come in the house when anybody else is about and I have Laura here.
Laura has a cold so fingers crossed that I do not catch it from her.
Suzie, Sharon paid around the $70 a day for Laura when she was in day care. (3 days). Sharon was not impressed with those who charged less.
Suzy, I would compliment the teacher on all she has done for Alie and ask her to recommend where Alie should go next. You might have to go to W'gong. Ken's cousin's grand daughter lived there and she has become an opera singer and is now in Berlin (not that Alie is headed in that direction)so there must be some good teachers there.
Ken had another cousin from there pass away last week but we are not going down for the funeral. (She was 89 and wanting to go for some time)

Morning all,
June, I paid a whole lot less than that in the States - but that was a long time ago too. I'm thinking that it makes perfect sense to me why mothers stay home with their children - they can't afford not to!

I was thinking Wollongong too June. One of Alie's friends has lessons up there. She has told Alie that she has been singing since she was 6 years old and finds a lot of the stuff she is asked to do very hard. My idea of what Alie needs right now and hers are probably very different. Though the cover she did with a friend that was posted on facebook last night might prove me wrong.

Thank you so much guys for your ideas. It's going to be a tough conversation, even more so with her mother who is very protective and will not like the perceived slight.

Lots of people going grocery shopping. My plans for today are to stay home and get warm - though a trip for a cappuccino might be nice...

I've just remembered the thing for mum at 2. I don't know whether to go or not. At this exact moment it feels too hard... they didn't tell us kids about it so I don't think they expect us to be there on a reception line or anything.

(Well, it's either LATE afternoon or EARLY evening. I'm not sure where to divide the day. I don't think I got here yesterday - even for a quick HI, but could be wrong. We left the house at 4:30 p.m. and got home around 11:30. Last night was the recital for all of my cello teacher's students. I am her only adult student and played the least advanced piece. I had played it on 2 performance classes, but found more nerves were activated by playing in an actual concert hall with more people in the audience (probably about 60-75 people). When we get it figured out, I'll post a video (only about 1 minute).

Suzy, I'm glad Dana will get government assistance for the child care - especially since it's $75/day. WOW! I really hope she realizes the importance of getting her education now and applies herself! Crossing fingers, toes, and everything else that this will be a positive experience for her!

Gail, what a great description - windows with a smoky effect! I hope you and hubby have a good and relaxing weekend away!

Vicki, it must be so hard for you to get things done around your house when every weekend is spent visiting either your Mum or MIL. It's too bad your BIL and SIL are not inclined to spend more time - ANY time - with their mother! Certainly would make a difference if she had more visitors, but it can't be left entirely to you and your hubby! I hope you can find a way to enjoy this weekend!

Bean, I hope you enjoy the conference you're attending and find it worthwhile!

June, your purchases at the fashion parade sound lovely - and on sale, too! Enjoy your weekend with Laura! We'll see you when we see you, since she's already notified you of her need for the computer!

Tami, I hope the antibiotic from your doctor helps ward off any sinus infection! They are NO fun, and you need to be on your toes as the end of the school year approaches!

Suzy, I hope Tahli's constipation is a thing of the past! It's no fun for a little one, her parent and grandparents!

Heidi, I hope your day "at the races" was enjoyable! So sorry things didn't go as planned on Friday! How will you find time to stock up on food for the humans and 4-legged residents of Surreal Farm before your surgery? (Hint: get some Lean Cuisines or other frozen "meals" and tell IH he's on his own.)

MIzT, SO sorry you lost another post! It's SO aggravating! I agree with you and Vicki and try to do shopping mid-week and NOT when people are on their way home from work. Crowds are not fun, nor are long check-out lines in the store. Your Mexican pot pie sounds yummy!

I am home from the races. I had a wonderful day, though one friend had to cancel last minute. A daughter of another was too happy to take her place. I came out ahead by $1.50. Not much, I know, but I didn't lose money gambling. The Kentucky Derby winner "I'll Have Another" won the Preakness as well. I'm proud to say I bet on him. I had a total of 5 winners. IH lost nearly $40.

Suzy, I remember paying about $200 a week when the boys were babies. My memory is not that good thought.

Julie, the frozen meals do come in handy when you are not able to cook. That is a good suggestion for Heidi. The antibiotic does seem to be helping.

Heidi, I'd be mighty tempted to sneak some water on Monday morning, too! I once had surgery scheduled for about 11:00 a.m., and finally had it past 5:00 p.m. LONG day for the surgeon, but with no water since midnight, I was so dehydrated they couldn't get into a vein for the IV and had to call in a specialist after about 5 or 6 tries. That will NOT happen to you, and the surgery will go well! I hope you will be able to get your Chinese food fix SOON!

It's interesting that the calf became so aggressive. I'm glad you were able to sell the other calves!

Theresa, I'm so sorry to hear that Dakota had to be put down. I see MIzT already posted the Rainbow Bridge for you. I'm glad you had a chance to talk to Dakota before she was taken to the vet. Of course she understood. The family farm will be a great final earthly resting place for her! I'm sure it will be quite a while before you're used to a quieter house with no "announcement" of visitors.

Suzy, I hope you can find a way to talk with Alie's singing teacher. We did a last-minute change of violin teacher once, without an opportunity to discuss it with the teacher we were leaving, but there was a sudden opening with an excellent teacher and we had to act on it quickly. It really hurt the teacher's feelings. It's best to be honest, and hopefully there is something Alie knows she wants to learn that the teacher clearly can't teach her so she realizes the need for a change. (She probably already realizes, but finds it as hard as you do to discuss it.)

MIzT, I hope your sister will soon feel better! We have a few boxes here that we were collecting for D and SIL who will be moving next month. Unfortunately, I have no way to cyber send them for Joy! I hope she is able to get everything packed and moved as needed!

June, I hope Laura doesn't share her cold with you! Thank you for the reminder of Mama's birthday! I will need to quickly get and send a card!

It's later than I'd planned, so need to get something together for dinner. I hope to be back later this evening. Take care, Everyone!

Yesterday I stocked up on large amounts of dog food and poultry food, as well as buying a weeks worth of frozen dinners. I've done this before.

Tomorrow I need to load up that violent calf and take him to the sale barn. A neighbor offered to come over and help load him out. I told IH that it was his turn to go in with that calf and get beaten up. You should have seen the scared look on his face. He's expecting the neighbor to do that part. I will jump in and do it rather than see someone else risk themselves.

I did have one unpleasant thing happen today. While grazing away at the massive buffet, my temporary tooth broke loose and fell out. I had a small box in my purse and put it in there until I got home. I've since mixed up an epoxy sculpting medium and reattached it. My dentist loves when I use that stuff. She says it works better than anything she uses, but since it isn't approved for human use, she can't use it herself. It holds the tooth on very snugly, but when you need to remove it, the stuff pops right off and leaves nothing on the tooth.

Heidi, you remind me of Al, gluing on your on tooth. he had a crown come off, used super glue, never did go back to dentist to have him fix it, it stayed nicely!

I received my mother's Day present today, and daughter did surprise me, Not ONE top, but three! I think that is all of them I showed her I was considering. My idea was for her to pick ONE, so it would be a surprise to me, I love surprises. Boy was I surprised to find 3. I love all 3 of them, will try them on tomorrow after my shower. At my age, with bones that often object, I do not like to try on clothes, and after a shower, I am "looser" , joints work better. One top is a twin set, but not a sweater knit, this is a light weight jersey knit, charcoal. I love the weight and the "hand" of it, it drapes nicely but does not cling, just perfect. I need to find my pressing cloth, though, it needs a good steaming, and do not want to touch an iron to it, I tried tumbling it with some underwear that needed drying, helped, but still not wearable.

Julie, really looking forward to seeing your recital video. be sure to let us know when you post it somewhere.

Suzy, it sounds you have a hard task ahead, having to tell the voice teacher thank you for what you have done, but we are moving Allie. Good luck, just be honest, do the best you can. You are not responsible for how she and her Mother react to that information, that is all on them. I hope they take it well, for their sakes.

Found out from Joy that she does not have to be out of apartment till June 10, so she has time to schedule movers. We are going to take my van and move some things starting when she gets the key, things she would rather handle herself. The old green mini has more moving room, the second row of seats fold down, not so the bucket seats second row on the Kia. I have things for her too, that I will not need here, some I can give her now. I saved yard tools, shovel, rake, hoe, pick, pitchfork, loppers and a long water hose. I have 3 hoses, do not anticipate needing those and since I really cannot operate those yard tools now, she can have them. She will also be getting one of her Dad's computer desks, both if she wants them, if they will fit the van she can have those now. Mine is on a nicer piece of furniture, a ladies desk, and that is what I will move with me. When I move, she gets washer and dryer too, oldies but goodies. she has a washer, but no dryer presently.

Neighbor is coming tomorrow to check my lawn mower, see if it is dead and needs the small engine hospital to resuscitate it, or if it has a minor injury that can be patched up here. I really do not want to put a lot of money into it, hoping this is the last summer, or part of summer I shall need it. But I must have it, cannot afford to pay weekly to have the back weeds cut.

Friend Eddie has not been cutting it in a month of so, I have seen him only one weekend out of last 4. he was going to come back to mow. I think he is n

Thanks for the compliment, MizT. I like being compared to Al. I can't use super glue because this is a temporary tooth and it needs to be easily removed and the base left clean. This stuff I used does that. Necessity is the mother of invention and imagination is its father.
