Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

I don't know what happened to the microwave. Mitchell had put something in for lunch and turned it on. It was on for a few seconds and then we heard a pop and it was done. The microwave is about 15 years old so I guess it was time.

Morning all.

Welcome home Rolanda. I bet there have been some changes in your new home since you went on vacation!!!

D babysits a little 3 year old girl two half days a week. This morning the mom dropped her off and told D she thinks the little girl has chicken pox. D expressed her concern. I personally think the mother should have phoned D to ask if it was okay to bring her over. Anyway, the husband is supposed to come and pick up the little girl any time now. I think it's kind of nervy to just drop off a child who might have chicken pox. This mother is very nice and happens to be one of D's best friends. I guess it was just lack of judgment.

Has your D had chicken pox? Or have your Grandies had it? Either way, it's extremely inconsiderate.

I suspect that Rolanda will check out the new construction as soon as she wakes up. She was probably too tired after all of that traveling to check it out as soon as she got home.

Heidi, D had the chicken pox and the grandies have been vaccinated. However, while checking it on the internet today I learned that if you have had chicken pox as a child, it can lead to shingles in adult life. No one wants that!!!!! My D wanted me to go and look at the child's rash and I said NO!!!!!

Nice day here, for a change. It would be nicer if it rained, but I'll take what I can get. I hope to go for a drive with Buddy in an hour or so. IH is at the plant again, so I'm having a great day.

Theresa, have you had chickenpox? If so, you are in no danger from the child, for chicken pox or from shingles. You get shingles only because you had C pox as a child, the virus is already in your body living on nerve endings, but dormant. You get shingles if for reasons unknown, the dormant virus wakes up, as it were. You cannot 'catch' shingles.

On the other hand, a person with shingles is contagious, a person who has not had chicken pox or the vaccine can catch chicken pox from the person with shingles, they cannot catch shingles. I know all this because my sister has shingles, and we were given lots of information by the various doctors she has seen.

anyone over the age of 50 who had chicken pox as a child should have the shingles vaccine. I got my injection within 4 days of sister's diagnosis. Not because she could give shingles to me, but seeing the pain she was in, I did not want to go through what she was going through. I had planned on asking my doc about it, as had sister. we just never got around to it. I made it a point to make time to get it done. our other sister got hers the day before I did. It was a wake up call for us.

My BIL still has not got his vaccination, he has not found a pharmacy that has the vaccine yet. he does have the prescription for it. He is spending so much time building his daughter's house in Georgia, it is not a priority for him. I hope he gets it soon. shingles is a very painful disease.

OK, see Tricia taking off her nurses cap now!!

Yes, Tricia, I had chicken pox as a kid. I guess right now I am being extra cautious to not bring any germs into inlaws' house. I do want to get the vaccine, even though I hear it is quite expensive. My sister had shingles years ago and suffered greatly. A co-worker of D's has been off work for quite some time now because of shingles ... he can't even stand to wear any clothes at all!

Theresa, here in US, the going price for the vaccine is around $200. Some insurance will pay part, leaving you to pay drug co pay, if you have drug coverage. I do have drug coverage, so only paid the co pay of $6.50. No charge for the pharmacist to inject, that was nice of them.

After seeing what sister is going through, and she has had a MILD case, I would have paid MORE than the $200 had it been necessary. I would have found it somewhere.

the vaccine is not 100% guaranteed to keep you from getting shingles, but they say if you do get after vaccine, it will be very mild and short lived course of infection. I do hope mine works as total preventative.

sister is gradually getting better. she has had several periods where she did not hurt for 12 hours after a very small dose of pain meds. Usually only lasts her 3 to 4 hours. After that happened first time, she thought she was over it, most disappointing when pain came back. A good friend of hers who had it said this happened to her, she could go for longer periods pain free, then it came back, did that for a couple weeks fore it was gone for good. I hope sis is over hers in another 2 weeks. among other reasons, she and I are going to her BIL's house to pick blueberries! they have 26 bushes and each is overloaded with berries, said we could pick all we wanted. I could put up a couple of grocery bags of berries in freezer, they keep for years! I can just taste blueberry pie, blueberry muffins, blueberries on my cereal. you get the picture hehehe

I just got off the phone with Mamacita's daughter. Michella's computer is having problems and that is why she hasn't posted. Mama is doing good. She was supposed to go home but a minor glitch is keeping her there for a little longer. She should be home soon. Michella thanks everyone for all the love and prayers, she really feels that it helped.

TAMI, thanks for the report on Mamacita, good to hear there are plans for her going home!

HEIDI, I am only hoping I get the blueberries, it is not a done deal yet. sister has to get well while there are still berries to pick I did not realize you were at dentist today. did your dentist use the new deadening method you spoke of earlier? We do not want another round of numb tongue for you.

Time for dinner, but I am not hungry. too much heat perhaps? June, tonight I have sliced ham, baked sweet potato and corn for dinner, with one of the fast and easy microwave cake mix plus can of soda cakes, a carrot cake this time. I would not have cake if I had to use the oven.

A big hello everyone.
Yesssssssssss at long last this op is over with.
Now the recovery. Without a doubt the most painful op I have ever had.
It has been two weeks today since I had it done and yesterday got the staples out.
It is looking good and start the physio this Friday.
The extent of the bruising and swelling is incredible but par for the course they tell me.
Hope everyone is fit and well.
Cheers

Viv... you're over the worst of it. I promise. That's a drastic op you went through... one I hope I never have to have. It sounds like you're healing nicely, and on schedule. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing the news about Mamacita, Tami. Going home soon is MAJOR!

MizT.... the dentist appointment was a spur-of-the-moment thing. They had a last minute cancelation and were able to get me in to replace the temporary tooth and re-prep the base of the tooth. I'd been without anything protecting it for over a week. I couldn't brush my teeth on that side, or eat or drink on that side of the mouth, because it was so sensitive. Today was the first day that my dentist was back from her vacation. They had originally thought that they couldn't squeeze me in until Friday.

Morning all - I have been reading but not commenting for days for some obscure reason.
Good news from Viv and from Michella about Mama!
Good luck with the squishy thing, Beanie - had mine last month and all was well, thankfully.
Glad you're home safely Rolanda and enjoyed your bed and pillow last night. I think we all know that feeling. It often compensates for the sad feeling that a much anticipated holiday is over.
Now on with the construction of the new home.
BTW, Rolanda, it was a pleasure to have you here - my very first Sudoku house guest. Hopefully you can recommend 'Chez Cyn & Col' to other Sudokoists. All welcome!

Col had a shocking day yesterday, worked for 4AM until 8.30PM - it was cold, wet and muddy. Even his boots were wet inside and out.
He missed an important meeting, where, it turns out, his boss who owned all the trucks that did the carting (sub-contracting) for this big sheet metal/hardware company, has sold out. So Col has new bosses today. Bit unsure whether this will be good or bad. Small pay rise involved, but.... who knows??

He's just rung me to say that he is being taken for a medical today, all of them have to have a medical every 12 months to drive a truck (it's the law). And then tomorrow they all have to 're-apply' for their jobs. I think Col will be OK, if he passes the medical - he's so darned skinny - and eats like a horse. He's passed his 3 previous medicals.

Hi, Everyone! Just a quick pop in to say Gekko and let you all know I care!

I got to practice today! (Hooray!) I practiced too much. (How do I know?) I did something to the (almost) tip of my left pinky. There's a lump where my finger touches the string, and I can barely type because it hurts so much. Hopefully I'll be able to practice some tomorrow, though not as much! I'm not sure how it will affect my lesson on Thursday.

The middle grandie came down today with what her sisters had. The youngest is still running a fever, but it comes and goes.

What a great TOPP, June!

MizT, thank you so much for the information about shingles. I'd go out tomorrow to get one, except that we've had conflicting advice from hubby's doctors about the safety (live virus and hubby is immuno-compromised.

Heidi, I hope all went well as you revisited your dentist!

June...our weather here is similar to yours. There is water laying everywhere and I had to dry uniforms.
I have spent the last 2 days watching tv and feel slightly better today. Back to work tomorrow for 5.
Julie..you must have really overdone the cello prac to hurt your finger.
Viv..welcome back. Sorry to hear that the op was so painful.I have had 2 knee surgeries and they were awful. A total replacement would be worse.
It was lovely to hear that Mama has improved. Hopefully we will see her here shortly.
Catch you another day.

Hi everyone, I've been reading but not posting very often.
I know that we all seemed to have had our squishy thing done recently and nothing has been found (I hope). I had a call from a good friend of mine recently telling me that she has breast cancer, is due to go into hospital next week for a mastectomy followed by chemo etc... the whole works. She had had her squishy test done and it came back clear too. She had been watching a TV programme here in the UK about Embarrassing Bodies. Her husband complained about her watching it because nothing is left to the imagination no matter what part of the body they are examining (it is an actual medical programme with real people) this programme contained someone with breast problems. To cut a long story short, my friend did the breast exam that night and realised that there could be a problem. Turns out that the cancer had probably been there for over a year and it is one of the types the squishy test doesn't pick up. (20% of breast cancers are not picked up) So please my dear friends, even though our squishy test come back clear, do a regular breast check yourselves.

Rolanda, pleased to hear you had a good holiday and got to meet loads of our friends from here. Sorry that there has been little progress on your new abode. I had heard that the weather had been bad in your area. I'm still hoping that our summer will start soon, we have had a couple of pleasant days but are now expecting the rain for the rest of the week.
Tami, hope you haven't had too much problem with the weather in your neck of the woods. It had been reported in a paper yesterday that Florida had had some flooding.
Well I have to get on and do some book keeping for quarterly taxes.
Take care everyone.
