It looks like the guy who looked at the heifers will buy them all.

To celebrate, IH just invited me out to lunch.

Mama.... I swear by Toyotas for reliability. They're also the safest car to be in an accident in. They protect the driver very well and sacrifice themselves.

Greetings friends. Alabama continues grey and rainy, and unseasonably warm. Forecast to make 72 (22.222 C) today, warm for January. I am a bit mopey today. On my trip home from Montevallo yesterday, I smelt my car getting hot. Gauges were OK, but I just knew something was not right. The short version: my car is in the shop about 30 miles south of here. I have not yet heard from them with a diagnoses or estimate, but they were able last evening to confirm water was leaking, just not from where, until they can remove some parts. I found out the car rental clause I opted for in my insurance covers accidents only, so I am without wheels probably until Monday. AAAAAAAAGGGH.

I did not make the movie scheduled for today that I mentioned last post. The weather and the prolonged wait in torture chairs in mechanic's waiting room left me too achey to move. Heidi, I was like you, not sure I could get out of bed this morning. Knowing it was time for meds, and I had to get up to get them, and the fact lying in bed hurt encouraged herculean effort and meds did reduce the pain.

Today is a do nothing day for me. Well, I did make some turkey salad, the kind with grapes, dried cranberries and celery in it. I made use of my rolling chair, and opened a drawer to provide a lower working surface. Turkey was in the freezer, from Christmas. That will be lunch today and tomorrow. I have hamburger steaks for dinner, hope to cook some potatoes with bacon and cheddar, the kind that come in a box, but hey, I allow myself shortcuts when pain is not under control.

Yeah Heidi, congrats on the sale of the heifers I do hope you enjoy your lunch out. I am glad the back is well enough to let you go.

MAMA, what cars are you interested in at the moment. Compact cars? Full sized? SUV or mini van, sedan or what? Inquiring minds want to know.

Suzy, enjoy your meet up with CP today. I know you will have fun.

HI JULIE, bye Julie! It is good of you to check in on what must have been a busy day. We know you are alive and well, good to hear from you.

Time for lunch, I hope to get back and respond to any posts I missed. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Heridi, I love Toyota s...my first car w/o sharing was a 71 yellow Toyota and folks kept asking me where I kept the band aides I'd need if I scratched it...but it handled so easily, I never put a scratch on it...and the mileage was great...loved that car. I then moved up to include Mazdas in my love cars...had just about every model made over the years and it has earned my trust...
MizT currently I'm looking at compact sedans, Toyota Camry, Mazda 3's, Hyundai Sonata or Elantras, or Honda Civics....all have great safety ratings, get great mileage and are in my price range...need to see how the insurance works out. The dealers who handle these cars are close by and have great reputations...but I am still torn or perhaps unsettled by doing this on my own...yet its what I want to do...now I sound like a kid...sorta feels that way too...stepping outside my realm of comfort..lol...but hey...that's what being independent is all about! Please ladies, wade in to this convo if you have favs I might consider....this is research time..I'll let you all know what I decide on. I plan on doing this in mid-February, so plenty of time. I've been testy driving some models when I have had to rent cars...so far, so good.

Hot and humid up here, even answering the phone breaks you out in a sweat.

Morning all -
My week with Emily is over, it's been lovely having her but also nice to be back to normal.
Mama - I swear by Toyotas, 4 of my last 5 cars have been Toyotas, biggest mistake was the Mitsubishi amongst them!
Broni - how are you coping with this constant heat? We have even had the air-con on all night twice - never done that in the 6 years we've had it!
Tricia - sorry about your car trouble. Nothing worse than being without your wheels for a few days!

We nearly lost Jewel overnight - silly dog! She hunted down and caught a huge cane toad which released it's poison. She was foaming at the mouth - best thing is to hose the toxins out of her mouth but there was no catching her so eventually Col had to get a good aim onto her mouth with a container of water. She was throwing up and hallucinating and was very disoriented. We caught her, put her in the car, drove the 20kms to the 24hr Vet. By then she'd come good but we still had her checked over. She's fine this morning.

AMAZING, SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES:

1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.

3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO SET A TIMER.

4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES; THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

6. YOU NEED ONLY TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

THOUGHT for the day:

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN THEY'RE PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Should be heading off to see CP but had to leave a message for Mamacita before I left.

Mamacita, the other woman posting on Dana's status about Tahli walking is 'dragon lady'. The one who stole my baby away from me. Dragon lady is what her kids call her, I call her psycho woman. Not very charitable of me, but it's hard to forgive someone who stole your baby.. even if I did get her back in the end... I'm very polite for Dana's sake, but that's about as good as I can bring myself to be.

Will be back to read after I've seen CP!

Suze...btw...you are doing great as far as dealing with the situation. Keep it up. Know too that Dana was raised with values and she is instilling them into Talhi....more proof that while 'our kids' may seem to choose others over us when young, if we've really given them the best of us, we never lose them....If someone 'thinks ' they can take them away from us,and succeeds...we didn't do our job as parent well...if the child returns to the fold...it serves to tell us that they just had a need to check that the grass wasn't any greener there...so they come happily back....Where did Dana turn???.... nuff said..Peace!♥

I'm off to bed early again.

The warm spell we're having (highs in the 60's, lows in the 50's) will be ending Sunday evening. Then we'll be back to near seasonable weather. Tho' no snow is predicted in the foreseeable future.

Greetings, Everyone!

Suzy, please give CP a {{HUG}} from all of us. Enjoy your meet-up!

Heidi, I'm so glad your back is better today! Hopefully it will continue like this or get better as your epidural appointment gets closer. I hope all the heifers are sold.

Mama, I hope your preferred status is returned for your insurance. Have fun researching and buying a new car! Great TOPP, Mama! We have had a couple of Dodge Caravans - great for hauling people and things and a Toyota Avalon. Younger D has a Toyota Camry. We've been pleased.

MizT, sorry to hear that you have also been dealing with your share of pain - and also sorry to hear about your car woes. Luckily, it sounds like repairs were relatively easy and not exorbitantly expensive.

Broni and all those dealing with excessive heat, I hope you will soon have milder temperatures!

CynB, so sorry to hear about Jewel's run-in with the toad, but certainly glad she is back to herself today!

Theresa, thanks for sharing the home remedies and engineering conversion factors! Definitely had to chuckle about them.

Sorry, but I've run out of time for reading and responding. I hope everyone is well! I'll be thinking of you. Sending {{{{{

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Off to teach Saturday school to get the kids ready for the big state test in 12 weeks. Dylan is coming with me. He doesn't need the help but it won't hurt. Not sure if his school does Saturday or not but even if they do, I can't be in two places at once. See you all later.

Off to Belinda's today. We will pick up Laura and take her home.
A cooler day today.
Made a decision the other day and have the vet coming tomorrow to put the cat to sleep. An expensive excercise at $147 for the injection and $105 for the house call. It would stress the cat too much to put her in a carry cage and have her in the car. I have been watering a spot (to soften the ground) so she will be burried in the back yard.

Mitchell has a basketball tournament tomorrow. It is in the neighborhood I grew up in, about 45 minutes south of me. My friend Judy and I will drop our sons off at 9:30 and then drive around and go shopping. We will pick them up at 4:00. We can get back a little early and watch some of the games. As long as he has fun, I don't care. I do hope his team wins as it is the youth director's last year and that would be a great going away gift. The tournament is 8-9 youth groups from different temples in South Florida.

Afternoon all,
It was lovely meeting up with CP yesterday. She and her husband are lovely and they were able to give me worthwhile reassurances about Dana's future.

I went home for a little while and then we went to Dana's for dinner - she cooked an amazing prawn stir fry. Delicious!

Then Don and I went to see the Hobbit. I didn't check so didn't know that it's nearly 3 hours long. If I'd known that I probably wouldn't have had the large coke...

I had decided not to see les mis. All the talk of tears etc made me lose interest, but Alie wants to see it because it was recorded live, not lip synced (at least that's what she has heard), so I might have to see it anyway - unless bf takes her...

Greetings, All!

Tami, I hope Saturday school went well Good luck to Mitchell and his team in the basketball tournament!

June, I hope Laura had a wonderful time at Belinda's! I'm so sorry you were faced with the difficult decision for your cat. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. It's nice that you have the option of a house call - will be much more gentle and peaceful for your cat. I don't know if vets around here will make a house call.

Heidi, I'm glad your back pain is mild to moderate again today. Regardless, you're probably counting the days until the epidural.

Suzy, how nice that Dana invited you for a yummy dinner and you and Don were able to follow it with a movie! I must say that I've never had the problem with a long movie for a couple of reasons. First, we rarely go. We actually got to the theater (for the first time in at least 6 months0 1 day last week to see Lincoln, but it was sold out. Second, in all the years since we started dating, hubby has not once offered to buy anything to eat or drink - or even asked if I might like to have something.

Well, we have had a long day (almost 2.5 hour drive each way) to go to see my sister and BIL and get hair cuts. Since it's just after midnight here, I'm going to head to bed. Feel free to share the positive thoughts, healing vibes, prayers and {{{{{ H U G S }}}}}

Mamacita, I have a Mazda 2 and love it! If we'd known Tahli was coming along we probably would have gone for the 3...

Brenda, you missed your daughter's birthday! Belated birthday wishes from me!! Which reminds me of a family anecdote: Last birthday Alie got a Belated Birthday card. She looked very concerned and then asked me what belated means. It was like they were maybe wishing her something awful!

Tami, can i borrow the kindle too? I'm running out of the free books I've downloaded and am not sure the budget stretches to me buying too many more. I guess I could go back to the paper books for a while....

Brenda - 'I' missed your daughters birthday, you obviously didn't. Sigh.

Julie, I would never have that problem at the movies, if I want something and he doesn't, I buy it myself. I'm kind of determined that way...

That is a long way to drive for a hair cut - but I think I remember that the hair cut is kind of secondary to the visit itself.

My inconclusive travel plans for 2013

I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.

I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.

I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work.

I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore.

I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.

I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.

Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older.

One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!

I may have been in Continent, and I don't remember what country I was in. It's an age thing.

PLEASE DO YOUR PART! Today is one of the many National Mental Health Days throughout the year. You can do your bit by remembering to send this to at least one unstable person. My job is done!

Life is too short for negative drama and petty things. So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly! From one unstable person to another... I hope everyone is happy in your head - we're all doing pretty good in mine!

Hi folks...
Have only read from my last post so still in the dark about a few things.

Cyn glad to hear that the young lady has recovered from her brush with the cane toad. Do you think she has given herself a big enough scare to keep her distance?

June.. a difficult decision made with compassion. I think we may have talked about this.. it was the one thing I regretted about my cat's final moments.. they were at the vets and that stressed her out unbelievably. Just wish I had looked harder for a vet to do a home visit [ours didn't]. The added cost would have been worth it for my peace of mind. Be thinking of you.

Surprised & a tad horrified that my Beanspeak has confused many.. only speak in code when stuff is very personal & private. Easily fixed.. will keep it simple.

Interesting observation. Have noticed in life that sometimes the ones we end up sharing most with often turn out to be the ones we see the least. Maybe we make more effort when access isn't so easy... I know when my bros lived in Deni we saw more of him than when he lived in Melb..

TAMI, not sure the car is fixed. the smell of hot antifreeze that prompted me to takeit to shop returned when I got home. It was too late to phone the repair shop, on my list for Monday. Not sure what is going on now (sigh)

Very good plan to spend time with a friend, shop a few different stores, and be transport for Daryl at the same time. Enjoy your day out.

Heidi, has it turned colder for you yet? We are having the last of the damp, warm days today. I had the AC on, in January, it was soo muggy feeling. supposed to start dropping tonight and the high for tomorrow will be just after midnight, as temp continues to drop tomorrow. We will go from 70's to 40's for a high, bummer. With the wind associated with this weather system, it gonna be cold outside!

Cyn, happy that Jewel survived the toad thing. I know it can be scary, when you know what they have eaten. One of the cats, Scooter perhaps, stalked and bit a 'poison green' (that bright sick yellow green color) frog. I took her to the vet. Vet said that was not something they taught in school, how to treat a cat for eating a bright green frog (they are poisonous) He could just do support for any tummy bug kind of thing. Obviously, she survived.

JUNE, what a kind thing, having the vet come for a house call to save your cat from the stress of a trip in the car. I will be thinking of you. I think you made a wise choice.

HI GAIL, good to see you drop in.

Suzy, I thought the same as you, a long way for Julie to go for a hair cut, until, like you, I remembered they were going for a visit, hair cut secondary. We were thinking aline on that one.

Julie, hope you have a safe and uneventful trip and come back looking beautiful!

Time to get out of this chair, an get something done today. I have such nice choices, NOT.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

OH, I want to tell you what happened to me yesterday. I almost got locked out of our building!! My magnetic key would not open one of the doors, the one I needed opened. I had to walk across the drive to the other building, go in there, go up to second floor and cross walk, then go back down their elevator to arrive in the lobby where I needed to be! After going back to my car, I almost could not get in again, took about 6 tries before the key opened the door. Monday I shall talk to them about a new key!

OK< I am gone this time, hugs again, ya can always use a few extra.
