We had a total solar eclipse several years ago. I was teaching in a mobile unit, and the principal made us all go back to homeroom just before totality so no one would get burned. There was a mud puddle in front of one of my doors that reflected the eclipse perfectly. I let the kids, keeping their heads bowed, walk by and observe it.

Ruby, As a child we watched partial eclipses of the sun through smoked class but that is now a no no. A pin hole through a piece of paper gives a "shadow" picture. I watched the transit of Venus across the sun a couple of years ago. The local university set up their telescopes with appropriate filters. It was fantastic!
I think the image of everything becoming "dark" in a total solar eclipse would be a great experience.

we watched the eclipses with the pinhole through a piece of paper giving a 'shadow' picture, when I was at school, with strict instructions NOT to look at the sun..

Hi Rolanda,June, Ruby, we have only recently got air conditining, before we used a fan with a tray of ice cubes in front of it. All we got from that was aches and pains! I quite like hot nights, alsways sleep better! In winter I have tons of blankets.

Just read through yesterday's posts. MizTricia how is the hip? Keep warm. As Rolanda will attest my hair resembles cousin Itt's, the hairdresser would probably get lost in it. Chella continues to improve, she is lapping up the TLC, her paddock companion is miffed she doesn't get the same food, she is overweight and on a strict diet and hating it.

Hi Mamacita,Rolanda,Lynda,Ruby and anyone else who calls in. Just been to see MIL (93). She was just home from playing bingo and I am about to go to the dentist. A front tooth had died and I have had some root canal therapy since Christmas and this should be the final filling. Will not need an injection so not worried about going.
Lynda I know how horses react when they think the other one is getting more attention/food etc. Worse than kids!

Hi, MizTricia, Stella, Ruby, June, Rolanda, Lynda, and Mamacita! Hello, Everyone else!
MizTricia, I hope your hip is feeling better! We were also able to see the eclipse last night. (Good thing it was LAST night; we have a cloud cover tonight.) On the subject of air conditioning, our house did not have it when we were kids. My Mom said she didn't like it. Finally, a few years before she died, she and Dad had it installed. I remember some VERY hot summer days & nights. (Also some VERY cold winter nights, as there was no heat in the upstairs bedrooms. We wore layers to bed and had every blanket in the house put to good use - 3 or 4 per bed.) Thanks for the visit, Mamacita! I'm sure you're looking forward to your trip "across the pond." June, I hope everything went well with your final filling!

It is hard to catch up anymore, I think a lot of us are less addicted than we used to be.

Hi all, we missed seeing the eclipse because of cloud. The last solar total eclipse seen in Europe was in August 1999. Lots of people in the UK went to great lengths to see this, traveling to vantage points in Cornwall. they were mostly disappointed as typically for UK summer it was cloudy. In Stevenage we saw a little of it through cloud breaks (no looking directly at it though) Even in totality it didn't get really dark, gloomy but not dark.

Gail, I think you're right. The convo on here has slowed down tremendously. Yesterday, I was looking for something in the SA2 archives and I realized there were 10,000 posts in about 2 months time! It took about 6 months on SA3. But then again, it could be cyclical, based on the time of year. Who knows!! I still enjoy reading about everyone's lives and activities!

Tomorrow is shopping day for hubby and I. We only shop once a fortnight and first we make a menu for the two weeks then make the shopping list accordingly. If anyone has any suggestions for the next fortnight's menu, I will drop in tomor...later this morning and maybe add them to the list.

Hi Stella. Guess I won't hold my breath. Just 3 days ago it was in the 60's (16 C) and the next day it dropped down to 19 (-7).
Been busy. Family illnesses, bridal shower coming up and making all kinds of soups to tide us over for when I run out of time.
How've you been?

GAIL, I tried a couple of new recipes this last month, and both were a success. I shall try to put up recipes later this morning. One is baked meatballs with mushrooms, the other is a Mexican pot pie kind of thing, I might have put that one up already. Anyway, I will check them out for you, and hubby highly recomends both.
