Warning: Conversation with hubby
I whispered to hubby last night - I have always wanted the girls to learn an instrument, but...
Kevin is visiting town tomorrow. Our road is near the road from the airport and he would be travelling down it - except it's closed while the fix the bridge!! Now if I want to perve on him I have to join the hoi poloi. Sigh. That is how I got to shake Johnny's hand, could have happened twice...

Hi everyone! Just stopping by for a minute ...
Had to say Happy Birthday (again) to Gail! Hope the day was great. :)
I'm still feeling a bit crook - it seems to come and go ... We just watched a sci-fi movie " District 9" - has anyone else seen it? By the time it finished I was shaking like a leaf ... don't know if it was the movie or my illness, but it was definitely not an "easy" movie to watch! Ok, think I'll just head off to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow - Good night everyone! :)

Judy... if I'm feeling crook, I'll only watch comedies or old musicals. Lighthearted fare to brighten my mood. They do say that laughter is the best medicine.

I just took the first step in adding a sun room to the house. I talked with the guys who'll do it, and they'll work out plans and an estimate. I'll have a lot more room for my birds this way, and improve the house.

Sounds very nice Heidi, I would like a sun room /conservatory but just at the moment finances doesn't allow me to even hope for one.

Heidi, is the sun room to be added before or after you bulldoze the whole house, as you threatened before??

Despite my wishes, I don't think the insurance company would pay off on me bulldozing the house. Realistically, I will have to add on instead, and just live with what I can't change. There are so many water and electrical lines buried on the south side of the house that my only option for expansion is building a sun room where the patio is. Maybe in a few years, I'll do something on the north side of the house, such as knock out the whole wall and turn the little living room into a BIG room.

I'm having a bad day, despite the guys finishing the gutter project.
Another of my replacement heifers was found dead. The leading suspect is a condition called Grass Tetany. It's a magnesium deficiency caused by the new grass growing so fast that it's lacking nutrients this time of year. When the grass starts to grow, you're supposed to put out a special mineral mix high in magnesium to prevent this. IH told me that he had put it out, but he didn't.
He'd just put out the regular mineral instead. That is probably what killed the other heifer a week ago as well. He just drove to the feed mill to get some high mag. mineral.
Then, I spotted some cows in the wrong pasture. They'd torn down a fence. So Robert and I just fixed that. It's a hot day, and I'm now dripping wet and tired.

The Vet will be out here later to check out the dead heifer. He doesn't believe it is Grass Tetany. I need to find out what is happening to my heifers.

Heidi, I amso sorry another of your heifers is dead. I do hope the vet can find out why and prevent any more losses. This is getting to be rather expensive for you, I know.
It is hot here also. I caved, have AC on in bedroom, and about to take a nap. I have been working on back porch, potting up containers. For whomever asked how many I will have this year, I will do a count when I am finished,. I think I have 2 more to go/ One I am waiting for caulk to dry, this is one hubby made for me last year, and I did not use. I found out it's twin leaks at seams, and the plants do not get much moisture. So he is caulking seams for me. I am putting plants that can stand to be a bit on the dry side, portulaca or moss rose, I like those hearty little plants.

Morning all!
Heidi, I wish it was that Johnny, but I'm talking Prime Ministers here. Sorry about your heifers, I hope the vet can give you an answer.
Judy, sending hugs! Sorry you don't feel well. I haven't seen District 9, and I'm not sure if I will now... Feel better soon.

MizT, I have a feeling that your plants will do very well apart from the time you are actually in hospital - which these days seems to be about a few seconds. You love them so much you will find a way to keep them moist.

The Vet was just here. We got a definite diagnosis. Blackleg, a chlamidial disease. He says that there has been a lot of cases this Spring. We vaccinate for it, but he says that this is a particularly virulent bug. We'll have to get the herd up very soon and re-vaccinate, and treat the heifers with antibiotics in case.

Gail I forgot to wish you a happy birthday here but I did on the other page. Hope you had a great day.
Heidi, sun room sounds like a good addition. I love to read your posts. They usually make me laugh. I am picturing boxes of poop at the post office. Sorry about the heifer.

Morning All, sorry I didn't get back yesterday been having trouble with one of my eyes think I have been overworking them at the computer. Went and had an eye test last night and the good news is they have not deteriorated in two years and their health is good too. Think the extra work I am doing has something to do with it.
Toy Elephant
bet the money Gail is spending is on you!
Heidi, sorry to hear about the other heifer.

Still experimenting with our new dishwasher. The instructions say to run it on ECO50, which means 50C, almost all of the time. The problem with that is if we forget to open it and slide out the drawers it won't dry and everything is murky. ECO70 works better, but of course uses more energy as the water is heated more. Then there's the 'how to fit everything in' problem. This one seems smaller than the one we had when we were first married, but that is so long ago my memory could be faulty. It's an adventure, but if it gets me out of gnihsaw sehsid then I'll work through it!

I have the Lovebirds outside in a cage.
They're really enjoying it, but I may regret it. The Guineas decided to roost in a tree near the cage and are making a racket.
I hope the Lovebirds don't start to imitate that raucous earsplitting din.

Good night all, it has cooled down tonight, bedroom windows opened again. I enjoyed the hours nap in the cool though, must have needed it.
SUZY, you will get the hang of the new dishwasher soon. 50 seems a bit cool for dishwasher, I would be fearful of growing germies in there.
Broni, hope your eyes get better soon.
Rolanda, hoped to hear from Robert before bedtime, do let us know how it went for him, sending good wishes.
TAME, have a good sleep and a better day tomorrow.
Heidi, glad you have a definite diagnosis, and there is treatment for the rest of the herd.
Happy Birthday Toy Elephant!
Only one more flower container to go, the moss rose, when the caulking is dry, perhaps tomorrow. then I have tomato plants and not enough containers. Hubby innocently asked if I could not put 3 plants to one 5 gallon bucket, NOPE, barely keep one watered in that size container, not sure what I shall do with the other plants, as I only have 2 of the bucket/containers.
Time for bedtime snack, and meds, check back with all tomorrow.

Look at that MizT, we were typing at the same time!
50C is hotter than hand washing so it should be okay - as long as we remember to open the doors so they can air dry. I'm running a 70C load at the moment - a couple of baked on pans so I'm testing to see if it can get them clean...
Kevin has delayed his trip here until Sunday when I will be in, wait for it, Canberra! lol! Hubby and Ally will be here but I doubt they will try to get a glimpse of him.

No runaway Lovebirds, Suzy. I had locks on every one of the doors on their cage. I just brought it back inside. It's supposed to cool off tonight, then a cold front is coming through tomorrow night. The lows are supposed to be in the 30's, just above freezing.

Good afternoon lovely SA people.
Suzy - I got a new d/w a few months ago and gave up trying to use the ECO50 - I have found that ECO70 is far far better. Also had trouble learning how to stack it. Our new one is an LG, our previous one was a Dishlex. We have a meter telling us how much power we are using and find that the difference is not so much that it's worth worrying about.
Rolanda - Good Luck to Robert. It's achievement enough to be representing your state, to represent your country would be awesome. Congrats to vdV for your suggestion to Robert.
Heidi - sorry about the heifer. At least you have an explanation now.
Broni - I've been having trouble with my eyes and have had to force myself not to sit in front of this computer too long. Glad nothing was seriously wrong.
Hello to Suzy, Gail, Tami, MizT, Brenda , Judy etc.
Visited Mum today with Karin - Mum was off with the fairies but otherwise well enough.

Good evening everyone. Nice to see Bean call in. I do see she is spending time with my daughters on FB.
Heidi, sorry about your heifer. That is quite serious so I hope you can re-inoculate and do not have any more problems.
Guess we still have about another 5 hours to hear news from Rolanda.
Nola, pleased Judy has finished the Chemo and I hope it has all been successful. I know it depends on the type of cancer she had.

Suzy, if you have a new dishwasher use it on the setting you find give the best results. Mine is set on 65*. I had to get the torch to have a look as the light in the kitchen shines the wrong way! What is the trip to Canberra for this time? or am I asking too many questions?
