Good news about Doc Heidi and enjoy your quiet evening. Sorry about the cow. Was she feeding a calf?. Hope the jaw is starting to feel better.
I am knitting a jumper for Laura and I am up to putting the horse on the front. That will take concentration!! The arthritis in my thumbs means I do not do much knitting these days.

Fortunately, the cow that died was not nursing a calf. Her calf was due to be born in 3 1/2 to 4 months.

Good morning lovely people!
MizT - glad the hand is improving and the you can type 2-handed again.
Heidi - sorry about losing the cow - you've had such bad luck with animals in the last few months.
June - I have arthritis in all my fingers but my thumbs are ok - isn't that strange? But I find it so hard to do some things these days - most I cope with but the one that frustrates me the most is really such a little thing - when I get change back after buying something, I can't close my hand around it - so I have to remember to always have my change purse open to drop it in directly or it ends on the floor - not a good sight - a woman my size scrambling around the floor in public looking for small change.

The adoption finalisation hearing went through with no problems and was over in a couple of minutes - just a formality. So we went to Southbank, found a yummy cafe and had coffee and cake - as you do! That little boy is the cutest little munchkin who, like all kids, loves his Uncle Colin, aka the Pied Piper of kids.

I have never had to change a tyre - (touch wood as I say this) I have only ever had one in the late 70's and it was in my own yard after I reversed over something my kids left in the driveway. I called my Dad who lived around the corner at the time and he hot-footed it down and fixed it for me.
A friend and I used to travel to work together, driving her car one week and mine the other. We had to drive over Brissie's Gateway Bridge every day and always used to say how we'd hate to break down or have a flat tyre on the bridge. Jinxed ourselves, didn't we? Her car got a flat tyre on the approaches to the bridge one day - we were horrified. Immediately we stopped, about 4 trucks and utes stopped behind us - formed a team and had that spare on in a few minutes.
Yee Haa for those lovely men - and my Dad!

Love that story Cyn!

I stripped a tyre on the 405 Freeway in CA - yikes! I drove on it until I reached a phone. One man stopped to help me, but the woman on the end of the emergency phone told me to tell him to leave immediately. I told him politely that AAA were coming to help me and thank you so much for offering. The AAA guy was a grump who left me lifting tyres and prams back into the boot with a 3 year old and a 5 week old in the car and cars zooming past me at 60 mph. I was the grump after that.

Suzy - It's a horrible thing for a woman to have a mechanical breakdown or flat tyre like that. That man who stopped was probably a nice helpful man but you never know - we hear all the stories, don't we? My hubby always stops - his helpful boy scout training has never left him! I hope you reported the AAA man!

Good Afternoon and good night to the top siders.
I have still been busy but am happy working when I feel I am constructive.
Heidi, thinking of you girlfriend.
MizT, glad to hear your hand is healing nicely.
Gail, enjoy your time with Bill.
Nola, we are all proud of you.
Cyn, happy to hear no probs at the hearing.
June, hope you are feeling better.
Have always changed my car tyres but touch wood it has not been years since I had my last flat. Can remember one time travelling to Echuca at night with my bluey and the back full of camping gear when I got a flat on a lonely stretch of road with not much room to pull off to the side, of course the flat tyre was on the road side so pulled on some old oversized clothes trying to look like a bloke while changing the tyre. One chap did stop just as I was finishing, was glad to be on my way again.
Love and hugs to all I have not mentioned.

One last thing before going to bed.
Remember that killer Coy-dog and his coyote pack that devastated my sheep flock? It's now doing the same to neighbors who have several sheep guard dogs! They are going nuts trying to stop those predators.

Hubby just tried to give me a heart attack! He called and just said 'Where's Ally?'. His tone of voice was weird so I was a bit confused and just told him she was on the bus. He was apparently worried that she had gone to visit her friend out of town and had just heard there had been a fatal accident out that way. Not like him at all, no wonder I was confused! He normally laughs at me for that stuff!

Rest In Peace.
Edgar Claire Astall. Aged 88.
Father in Law passed away this morning about 5.15am.
When I left him last night at 6pm I did not think he would see the night out.
I am glad I spent the last few days sitting with him at the hospital.
The funeral is next Tuesday at 2pm.
I am off to bed, it has been a long day.
Nite everyone.

What a sad day! I was speaking to my brother who told me that a friend's mother who we know well had passed away yesterday. I hung up came to SA and read about Viv's FIL then the phone rang again. It was my dear Aunty Vi (who you've all heard of before) - at 91, she's just back from NZ. She had been losing weight. Docs did a lot of tests - results today show a mass in her bowel and she is in hospital awaiting an op tomorrow. If you can spare any, I would appreciate a few good SA vibes for her. She is my Mum's sister. Thanks!

Viv... I will say it again. You are an incredible person. You made your Father-In-Law's last weeks so much easier on him, by giving so much of your time and love.
I'd like to send my love and support to you and your family right now. Take time to remember the wonderful man Edgar was, and not his suffering at the end. That part is blessedly over.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood today! Sunny, breezy, low humidity, a bit warm, but very nice. I need to get outside and water my containers.

I think I did not type in what happened to one of my tomato plants. I have 6, each in a bucket of potting sdoil, and set the buckets near my back stairs, they get full sun till late afternoon in that location. Also, I thought the wrought iron hand rail would be a good trellis for tying up the plants.

Well, after out first hard rain, I noticed the last bucket was only half full of dirt, roots of the tomato exposed, and dirt in a pile on the plastic underneath (ground cover to keep weeds away). Took me a bit of pondering to figure out, that last tomato, up near the porch, was directly under where the gutter dumped all the rain! That waterfall of water had washed away my topsoil.

The sloshy thing is calling me, I must sort out what I can and ready the rest for Mr Al to hang out for me. There are still some things I cannot do one handed.

That sounds like a great thing to be unable to do, MizT.

I can only imagine what that tomato plant thought when the torrent of water rushed towards it.

Heidi, yes, that is a good thing not to be able to do. Unfortunately, a lot of things I want to do also are not possible! like put my own hair into a clasp. Al said he was out of practice, his daughter, about 25 years ago

Al did get the wash hung out. It is low humidity today and breezy. They should dry nicely.

OH I also have a new plum tree, the young man who did my yard work brought it to me. It is taller than I am, he dug it on the land near his house. I do hope it lives. tree was delivered and planted for me. I love flowers and plants that come with holes hehehe

The swelling has gone down drastically. My face no longer looks like a lopsided overstuffed hamster. I still need the pain pills, tho.

Well, back to krow. We're getting ready for working the cattle tomorrow. Right now, Robert has gone off for a load of gravel so we can level a water tank and put a self-filling float valve on it.

Hello to June, Heidi, CynB, Suzy, MizTricia, Broni, Vivacious Viv, Brenda, Gail and Theresa so far on this page!

June, thank you for mentioning Doc's improvement. Lucky Laura when you finish the jumper for her! Sorry that the arthritis makes progress slow.

Heidi, what a relief to read that there is an improvement. Unfortunately, I see that you have lost another cow and an unborn calf. I'm so sorry misfortune continues on the animal front. All things considered, I'd much rather hear about Doc's improvement and the cow's demise than the other way around.

CynB, I'm going to have to back up a bit to read about the adoption. Sounds like a wonderful thing has taken place!

Broni, sounds like you are keeping yourself busy! I hope all is going well and you're in good health!

Heidi, though it was a shame you gave up your sheep, it sounds like you made the right decision with the coy-dog and coyotes still attacking sheep in your area.

Suzy, it must have been unsettling when your hubby called. There are occasions when the calmest men see things in a different way and suffer the anxieties so common to many of us.

V Viv, please accept my condolences on the loss of your FIL. It can be so difficult watching a loved one die and knowing that all you can do is let them know that it's all right to leave. Love and hugs to you and all of the family! Peace and relief to Edgar!

CynB, loads of prayers and positive vibes for your Aunty Vi and to you as well! Wishing all the best when the op is scheduled!

MizT, it sounds as if your recovery is progressing - and at a pace that prevents the hanging out of wet clothes. So sorry it also is preventing you from doing things you would like to do. I hope tomato plant #6 recovers from its near-drowning. (I like the visual Heidi's comment provided.) Good luck on your new plum tree! Sounds like the young man who helps with yard work is a keeper, as is Al, of course!

Robert just did a good deed for some neighbors (a mile away, but only 4 doors down). They live on a corner and big logging trucks take shortcuts across their corner, tearing up their yard. Using my tractor, he moved an enormous rock over to that corner. Now the trucks will wipe out if they do it again.

Gil just got home with the news that Doc had a setback. He started having difficulty breathing, so they put in a drain and they drained a liter of fluid off from around his lungs. I would think that a liter is a lot.
