I have a dog like Indi. Her name is Willow. She is a super friendly, loving girl, but once she gets loose, she goes completely deaf. She started out life in a puppy mill... her first 2 years in fact, and the shear excitement of being loose to explore all the interesting things in the world is completely overwhelming. She doesn't mean to be disobedient. She just cannot help herself. Fortunately, there are so many things to explore near the house (barns, cats, poultry, etc) that she doesn't go far. It can still take over a half hour to catch her.

Our dogs are really great about coming back. They will stop in their tracks when I call their names: UNLESS there is a dog, cat, bird within eye sight....

BTW... It was up to 102℉ / 39℃ today. I have no idea what the heat index was. It's down to 92℉ right now, with a heat index of 100℉. While I was at the garden center, there was a cloudburst there (it never reached our county), and I just stood out in the rain and got soaked. A wonderful feeling, and a fast way to cool off.

Callie is well trained and can run free, she never goes far. On the green beside our house Indi is well behaved as long as we don't let her get into the bushes, once in there she is deaf. I never let Indi off the lead as I couldn't run around getting her back. She is very docile at the moment, she knows she has been naughty even though she wasn't punished for it.

Brenda, Indi sounds like my dog Reggie. We never let him off his lead because he puts his nose down and goes. He is locked in the back yard but occasionally has made a break for freedom through the garage door.
He took off just recently after dark but I tracked him down a few doors away and dragged him home. He got locked outside the house in the back yard which he doesn't like - especially after dark.

Good morning everyone!
The server at work didn't get replaced last week but it is being worked on at the moment so we are on and off during the day. It's very frustrating.
Nothing new happening at home. Hubby and I are working on the details for our trip to Canberra (it's only 2 weeks away now). We are staying with his sister now that they are back from China. We haven't been to Canberra since the boys were at school -at least 8 years ago.
I'll be booking accommodation today for a 2 night stay in the Blue Mountains. I'll need to pack all my winter woolies for Canberra and the Blue Mountains.
We'll stay with my sister for a couple of nights before we head home.
I'm quite looking forward to the break away.

Finally a few minutes to myself. The weather is quite humid here and the poor air conditioner can't seem to keep up. They had heavy rain in Ottawa (my hubby was trying to drive through it on the way home from work), but we only got the edge of it with a slight smattering of rain.
Thanks for the offer Heidi, I have about 6 turkeys as avatars already compliments of Julie. I'm glad your gout is better. My hubby suffers from it now and then and it comes on without much warning. He says he has never experienced pain like that before when it happens. Don't let the infection in your mouth go on too long ... that can cause a whole other set of problems if you do. We worry about you, young lady!
So Brenda, you got more exercise than you planned. Some dogs can be as stubborn as some people.
June, how maddening that the cough is back. One of my sisters had a cough on and off for about a year that she kept going back to the doctor for. In the end they realized that one of the medications she was on was causing it. She switched meds or stopped it altogether, I can't remember, and the cough disappeared.
Gail, hope you don't have another round of the lurgy going around. Take care!

Yes Suzy, life is still very hectic. It won't slow down until after my daughter's surgery and she is back to work, which won't be until some time next year. Gosh that sounds like a long time away.
Tami, the kids here don't go back to school until after Labour Day. Do you work at a camp every summer?
Well, back to swearing a bit more .....

Morning, I am doing some that of
stuff too!!!
I heard from the boy, he and vdV are catching up this afternoon.
I asked Hubby, to organise his brother (the horticulturist) to come and do my Roses.
Hubby was going to ring him this morning, to come and do some garden work at the factory.
My roses have been pruned
, which must be a record, in terms of him being asked and the roses being pruned.

Nite nite Heidi, I am right behind you!
Rolanda, how fortunate to have a horticulturist prune your roses, you know they are done correctly, without having to do them yourself.
Theresa, no need to use brain power to type backwards. Know the arrows over on right of keyboard. NOT the back space arrow, but up, down, right left arrows? Type a letter, hit right arrow, type second letter, hit right arrow, repeat till word is now displayed backward!! At least it works on my puter/keyboard. Shhh, do not tell any of the others though
More to say, but falling asleep, just tired tonight. hubby and I slept together through prime time TV tonight heheh, in our separate recliners.

Hello, Sudoku Friends!
Hi, Suzy, Heidi, CynB, Gail, Theresa, Rolanda, Vicki, Brenda, June, MizTricia, Tami, and anyone I've missed or who is just now popping in!
Suzy, there's no telling what a cat will like! Nomnom likes coffee; one of ours likes spinach; a friends cat liked cantaloupe!
Heidi, I hope you slept well and that your gout is better today!
Cyn, I can hardly believe it. SO sorry to hear about the passing of your MIL. Rest in peace, Jean! May your sorrow soon be replaced by sharing good memories! Hugs to you and your hubby and family!
June, I hope your dentist visit went well! I also hope that cough of yours gets better soon!
Heidi, have you thought about getting an antibiotic since you will need to wait so long to see your dentist! You don't want that infection coursing through your body! It's amazing how IH can "forget" to pay so many bills! Doesn't he know they come due on a regular basis! I'm so sorry you have to deal with the repercussions! Seems like he added insult to injury today by giving you the wrong information about paying by check! WOW, 5.5 hours to take care of HIS mistake! It's a wonder you didn't come home with some new budgies! Well, I guess you did pick up a couple of things!
Brenda, how awful that it took an hour to "corral" Indi! That can be so frightening when they get free and "take off," thinking they're playing a game! And then, to follow that up with 2 dog baths! I bet everyone is now exhausted!
Vicki, it certainly is taking a while to sort out the server problems at work! No wonder you're looking forward to your time away! Well, in addition to visiting with your sisters. (Did I read that correctly?) I imagine you're getting excited as you finalize your plans!
Ooh, MizT, I just tried the trick, except on my computer keyboard I need to press the left-pointing arrow for typing backward! I won't tell a soul! (Actually, if I'm awake, it's almost easier to just think the spelling backwards. I've done "stuff" so many times that I realize I'm saying, " f-f-u-t-s," as I type it.
Alas, I, too, am falling asleep here at the keyboard (now 11:30 p.m.) Please excuse me as I head off to do my nightly preparations! Good Night, All, and Hugs and Positive Vibes to anyone who could use them!

Afternoon all!
I've just bought stuff to fill the cupboards but thought I'd take a coffee break before I swore with it. Almost as good as the first cup in the morning... aaaaaahhhh.
Cyn, hope things are okay up your way.
Julie, you're doing it again! How was your day? Did you go to any meetings? Is your hubby on the mend? Have you finished any pens that you could post photos of?
Rolanda, a carpenter, a seamstress(you), a horticulturist, and 2 computer geeks! All you need is a chef and a mechanic in the family and you've got it made!
Tami, it seems like school goes back earlier in Florida. I remember dates like 11 September in CA. It's a shame you can't have a full week at home.

Sleeping with Nomnom...
If Nomnom is with you when you try to go to sleep and she is not quite sleepy yet, she has a game she likes to play. First she attacks your arms. When you have them safely buried under the covers she decides to take a running leap and land on your face with her teeth around your nose. After she'd done that twice, I put a pillow over my head and pulled the covers up so only my eyes were showing. She tried one more time, didn't connect with flesh, gave it all up and went to sleep...

Rolanda, I forgot about your trolley boy and your grocery discount. I have a great deal. Ebob works at KMart and gets one of those cards which works at Coles too. She is allowed to give it to me. I use it and then she gets a staff 'bonus' at the end of the year which seems to be linked to how much the card is used. No need to take her with me and we both win!

Household anecdote: Stop reading if you have a weak stomach....
Nomnom has a litter tray. There always seems to be a bad smell no matter how many times a day we scoop. Hubby was complaining tonight asking the girls if they were scooping properly. We were wondering if she was choosing to 'use' other places around the house and so were looking behind things - and found a package of mince/ground beef that had fallen behind our box freezer.... bad smell explained.... Nomnom and the girls were wrongly accused.

Suzy, I think that cat is spoilt!
The two fillings had come from the same back tooth! hard to get at and not much tooth to work on. I did have an injection. I now have a temp. filling and he will make a porcelain cap. Expensive but will see me out! I have two chips to be fixed in the morning and then the cap done the following Friday. The worst part was having the impression made for the cap. It was hard not to gag! It was not a 'go to sleep in the dentist chair day'

Good morning all, promises to be another hot one today.
MizT, thanks for the tip about typing backwards. That is sooooooo much easier.
We used to have a cat that loved olives. They were like an aphrodisiac to her. She would roll around with it on the floor before she ate it. We have one cat now that likes to drink orange juice. If you pour yourself a glass, you can't leave it on the table if he's around. Strange creatures they are, but lovable.
I'm off to my daughter in a short while to hem some pants for her. Her hubby is home on Thursdays, so it's a day off for me (or so I thought). She has had to buy pants that are easy to get on and off, and she's just a tad over 5 feet so all pants are too long on her. Mom to the rescue!

Julie, you are correct, it is the left arrow that is used to produce backward typing. I apologize if I confused everyone. I am so dyslexic, telling left from right has always been a problem for me, since childhood. yep, ffuts is now a word for me, but rehsawhsid is a bit much to remember hehehe.
Suzy, school goes back mid august here in Alabama also. It varies a few days by school system, but all of them seem so early. When I was in school, when my daughters were in school, it always started the Tuesday after labor day. since labor day was first Monday of September, and that could fall anywhere from Sept 1 to Sept 7, school never started earlier than Sept 2, or later than Sept 8. The children were upset year it started Sept 2nd, that seemed to early for them hehehe.
Chilton County Schools (my county) start Aug 9, next Monday.
Temp outside is 89, humidity is lower than yesterday, feels like temp is 95. I just used the battery powered weed whacker to clean around my tomatoes, the stairs and the ramp. In the sun! It was not too bad out there. Yesterday a t this time heat index was 115, and the dew point was 78, WAY high. I imagine it is all relative.
I wore my brace, came in and iced my hand, we will see if that works. think I will wait till late afternoon when the area is in shade fore going back out to do more. Think I spent a whole 10 minutes hehehe.
Screech is a picky eater, her dry cat food, and tuna or salmon " juice" from the tins. Scooter likes a lot of things. She thinks she must have a taste of raw eggs when I am using them. AI put a bit of water in the empty bowl, rinse out the egg and add it to her treat bowl. She loves margarine, gets the empty containers to lick. And will try to share yogurt hehehe.
BOTH of them come running when I open any package of venison,I think they can smell it when outside even. Perhaps they have a genetic memory of hunting deer, when their ancestors were larger.

Heidi, hope you get work done on your fence and that it is cooler up there today.
Nola, hope the break refreshed you, and the assignment went easier afterward.
My Ex had a cat when we were dating, loved hard candy. he would hide behind a newspaper, unwrap a candy and she would come running, duck under the news paper and beg for her candy, usually peppermint. Can you guess what he named her?? Candy hehehe.
