Just getting ready to head out to the airport, Beth is going to Bali to meet up with her girlfriend who lives there part-time. They will be spending New Years there, then I think she gets back on about the 6th Jan.

Morning all!
Thanks for reminding me to change my avatar Gail... I hope Beth has a great time in Bali!

I have loved the grandmother stories. Neither of my grandmothers sewed or knitted or crocheted. I don't know how my mother learned. She made all of her own clothes when she was young and just starting work.

Heidi, I have a real mink coat - short and male. I have an ethical problem with mink coats but have been unable to part with this one. It was a gift from my great uncle to my great aunt just a couple of years before they died. Aunty Nancye left it to me in her will, along with a few other things my uncle had given her. It hangs in the cupboard, neglected and probably getting eaten by moths...

MizT and others, I would love to see lots of photos of all of these clothes. I am envious of so much talent.

Tami, that includes the blue jacket your boys have.

And I've just realised I've told a massive lie. In her later years my father's mother took up quilting. She made me 2 beatiful quilts. One is an early one in apricot colours, the other is a Baltimore Quilt. I still have that in storage as I can't bear the idea of anything happening to it. It was not quite finished when she died and her quilting group finished it for me. I wish I could have told her how wonderful I think it is!

Nola, I'm sending vibes out to Judy. I hope it's not golden staff. So glad you caught it and sent her off to the hospital.

Good morning all - not at all well today - must have been overeating or eating something that disagrees with me.
Nola - I'm glad you got Judy to go to the hospital - hope she is improving. How is the hospital up there faring? After the Jayant Patel scandal, it ended up with a bad reputation - I hope Judy is getting the best care available.
Oh girls, such lovely grandmother stories!

My dad's mother lived in New York until I was 14. She would come for a visit about once a year. Before she would come down she would bake dozens of cookies to bring with her. My Grandma Rose baked the best cookies. If anybody was coming to Florida, she would bake, and make them bring them for us. My brother and I were her only grandkids also. Unfortunately by the time I thought of asking for the recipes, dementia had started and she did not remember them anymore.

Suzy, I will take a picture of the blue sweater and will post it on my page. I will also post a picture of the Raggedy Ann doll that I made myself one summer when I was bored. I will let you know when they are posted.

I posted the pictures of the sweater and of my Raggedy Ann. Please don't look to close at the doll. She is about 30 years old and shows all the dirt of her age. I don't know how to wash her without ruining her.

Off to have a look at your pics Tami...

Just laughing at my spelling in my last post. My only excuse is that I was distracted. I should have stuck with the acronym, though I'd probably get that wrong too today...

Nola, sending more vibes to Judy. Good on you for insisting. I was my sister's carer and advocate after she had some surgery that went wrong, only to be landed with an MRSA infection afterwards...when it rains, it pours!

CynB, here a rug is a floor covering, not wall to wall carpet, but sometimes it can be carpet like, sometimes they are rag rugs, hooked rugs of some such. It is strange how words mean different things here than down under.

Heidi, congrats on your "new" coat. Hope none of the save the animals types mistake your coat for real mink and throw paint or ink on it! Imagine the canary man wanting to be paid for his birds, geeze.

Brenda, we had lovely scraps Mom brought home when she worked. I once needed some fabrics, all cotton, all wool and such, for chemistry. Mom brought us a bunch home! My chem teacher was very happy, she had about a 5 year suply for her experiments.

TAMI, congrats on having a REAL sewing machine. If it is not rusted, it should still work. It might need cleaning and adjusting. Having boys instead of girls, I can understand how you could loose interest in sewing. Not a lot you can make for boys. Pajamas, and boxer shorts about all I can think of.

June, it sure is hard to do any sewing with aching thumbs. that is what is keeping me from the sewing machine now! I do miss my quilt making. I never enjoyed knitting, learned how but preferred crochet. I did baby blankets for each of the babies, mine and my sisters children. I had one pattern and could do it in my sleep. Put on a ruffle around the edge that took more yarn and more time than the blanket die! but it was pretty and baby looking.

My Grandmother sewed also, and worked at doing alterations for the public. she also could take an old worn fur coat and make it into a more stylish jacket or stole. She therefore had a lot of old fur scraps. Now when I was in high school, "collars" were popular. White mostly, round little peter pan collars, worn over a sweater to look as if you had a blouse underneath. Well, grandmother made me FUR collars from the scraps. Everyone wanted one and she got a very good price for them from all my school mates.

All my dolls had coats made by Mom with matching caps and they had fur collars and trim on the caps, added by Grandmother.

Well, I do not have a new years avatar, but I put away the Christmas tree till next year. Wish it was as easy to put away my real tree! I am dreading that job and dreading how dull that corner of the living room will be without it!

I am off to get ready to go out. today I get squished again, yearly mammogram. Such fun, don't you want to join me?

Miz Tricia, I lost interest in sewing long before I had kids. I just never had time. I need to dig it out of the garage and see if it works. I can probably make some cute accents for the house now.
My mom worked in a linen (sheets, towels, etc.) store when I was about 10. The woman, Dolly, she worked with was an excellent seamstress. They would find these cute sheets and Dolly would make me clothes. Once they found on the shelf a quilt that was supposed to have been on display, too small for a bed. Dolly made me a long skirt out of it. I ended up wearing it to a wedding I went to with my parents.

I used to sew a lot. I made quite a few shirts for IH, but that discouraged me so much I quit sewing. The shirts would turn out perfectly, but within a few hours of putting each one on, IH would either spill ink all over the front or put a huge tear in the fabric. I figured that there was no point in making an effort.

Nola, I'm glad Judy is responding and I hope it wasn't much longer after 4 before the doc saw her. Congratulations on finally receiving your study materials. I hope it is truly rewarding!

MizT, I will have to take a photo of my bride doll and bride mouse and post them for you. I got the bride doll when I was very young and my mother made it a new dress out of left over silk. She made a bride mouse each for my grandmothers, one of which I now have. The dresses are replicas of my wedding dress!

Tami, you set off memory bells for me and I went and looked at the high shelves in my girls' bedrooms - I made them a raggedy anne doll each one christmas. It isn't embroidered like yours but painted. I will try to post a picture for you, if I can find my camera.....

Groan... I've just opened some emails and have been sent the program for NYE. Ally and/or her group since first, last and in the middle of the 4 hour program. As well as the group stuff they all have solos (along with a bunch of other people) and Ally's happen to be second last. She's going to be 'charming' on new years day...

Good Early Evening, Everyone! I just have a few minutes to read a few pages - so still at least 5 pages behind. I apologize that I still have not found time to thank you wonderful friends for birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas wishes. Maybe sometime around mid-January? Hoping everyone enjoyed whatever holiday you celebrated - or none at all!

So sorry to hear about your brother's grandchild, Suzy! Warm positive thoughts being sent for the parents and grandparents! I hope you and your brother were able to mend fences!

Just got to the end of page 34! So glad to see Kate and Viv found time to pop in! I hope to get here a bit more in the coming week. Take care, Everyone!

Good mAen everyone!! Haven't been here in the past few days. Christmas was nice, our anniversary was too!! Thanks to all who posted anniversary wishes for Darrell & I. We spent Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning in Wendover (Nevada, small gambling city). It's about an hour and a half's drive from us. Didn't win. Had fun!!
TTT: thought about you & mom while in Wendover, Englebert Humperdinck (spelling??) will be there in the spring! Laughed when I saw the billboard there!
Hope everyone is fine, missed 5 or 6 pages, will try to catch up (eventually!) Take care, that's all for now, TTFN

I had a major breakthrough today. I bought a shelf unit for the garage and took all the junk off the sewing machine. I now have the sewing machine in my house. I don't know when I will actually check to see if it works.
