Julie, you are doing a great thing donating blood. I did it irregularly for years, though I hated it, I just knew it was the right thing to do. Of course I'm not allowed to donate anymore.

Susan posted on the other page that they were lucky and the flood missed them this time, though many of their friends were affected.

Mum is home safe but is very very tired.

MizT, thinking of you and hope the tornadoes miss your area!

Mamacita, I hope you catch up on your sleep.

Gail, we had a total fire ban too, all permits rescinded. I keep waiting for the cool change that is supposed to come through.

Slight break there to rescue a blue tongue lizard from the dogs - too late we think. He is walking and moving around but his injuries are bad. He's now in the front garden and at peace whatever happens next.

I didn't get much sleep. The head cold won't let me lay down, and I don't sleep well sitting up. Also, the concussed head is still very sore, but at least I'm alert.

Happy New Year to all the top siders!

Good luck on your trip, Heidi.

I have never been able to donate blood as I am slightly anemic. I've tried twice in the past and both times I was told I needed the blood more than they did!

I'm surprised Theresa, the last time I went my iron was too high and they just kept retesting until they got a low enough result, they weren't going to let me leave without donating if they could at all avoid it!!

I was surprised too, Suzy. My sister donated blood twice a year for many, many years until one time when they tested her blood it was false positive. She went to her doctor and there is no problem with her blood, but she is no longer allowed to donate!

Off to have another coffee. Still a lot of congestion in the chest, although I think I feel a bit better. I won't be going with hubby to the outlaws today. I'll be missing out on a lot of good food.

Intermission here, it is 4 am, and I am online for a weather check. the storm system containing the tornadoes is still west of us. BOY is there some rain falling with that system. Flash flooding will be an issue even if we miss all the tornadoes. We will probably be rained in here for a day.

The tornado watch is in effect till 10 am, flash flood watch and high wind advisory till noon. I am back to bed for a few more winks while it approaches. Till later, unless we loose power.

Just watched the Vienna Philharmonic New Years Day Concert live from Vienna. i think I enjoyed last years concert better. That and the Edinburgh Tattoo are a must for us at New Year. Maybe not as much fun as the confetti though. (But then I have nothing to vacuum)

Just after that comment we had a power surge or something and took me 15 to get the computer going again. No damage thank goodness.

NOW I know what bucketing down is like! Rain and more rain here. there is a large stream about an inch deep running through my back yard. No severe T storms, very little thunder, I think all the rains we had before this " front" got here took a lot of the energy from the atmosphere. We will be getting these downpours till about noon. Not even a nice day for ducks out there today!

I CAN SMELL THE COFFEE BREWING TODAY! Yes I am shouting, I am excited, without smell coffee is just something wet and warm.

OK, think I will have a cup then back to bed, I was not ready to get up when this rain started. Loud noisy rain, really ill-mannered here at 7 am.

Wishing all my friends a happy and healthy new year.

I had a fun evening. A friend came over and stayed till after midnight. We had 4 adults and 3 kids. Ordered pizza for dinner and then played games. Played trivial pursuit in teams. Hubby and I, other couple, and the 3 boys. It ended up being a silly game with lots of laughter. We watched the ball drop at midnight and said goodbye shortly after. I hope everyone had the new year's eve that they hoped for.

Another mild day here. There's not much snow left. At least we had a white Christmas. When the snow melts everything looks so dirty and brown, a result of the sand/salt mix from the Township trucks during bad weather.

Tami, I was in bed by 10:00 last night. My chest is starting to loosen up, but there's still a long way to go. I'm just exhausted all the time. I do the chores that have to be done and either hubby does the rest or they just don't get done. I just got up from a three hour nap!

Brenda, I like your wish for everyone for the New Year. I could use all of those things!!

Still raining here, but on radar I can see the back side of the storm approaching. So it might be 1pm before the rain stops, but it shall stop! Just after I said we did not have much thumder, Mother Nature had to make a liar of me. BIG thunder that blinked the lights and computers and TV all off. Luckily they all came back on!

Watched the tournament of roses parade this morning, enjoyed that, my favorite New Year's Day activity. I was sleeping in my recliner, and as soon as I heard the words Parade, eyes popped open hehehe. It was colder in California where the parade and bowl game originate than it was here. Dryer, but colder.

Theresa, know what you mean about going to bed early. I think it was a wise decision for you.Hope your cold continues to improve, and is soon gone.

At a few minutes to 11, we turned over to the coverage from New York City, where it was midnight, and did the countdown. Saw the new year there, and went to bed an hour before it got here.

Tami, sounds like a fun way to see in the new year. Glad you enjoyed it.

Gail, what kind of coffee machine does your Hubby have? One that does espresso and cappuccino? Or just some good brewed coffee??

What is that eerie sound? OH, it is silence!! Rain stopped and no noise now seems strange, As hard as it was raining, it was LOUD for hours.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all, may you have health wealth and wisdom for the coming year.

OH JUNE, the bowl game I refer too has nothing to do with bowls as you play. It is a post season college football game, by invitation. Higher you ranked in season play the more prestigious Bowl Game you can be invited to.

We are home. I brought all five of his lovebirds home with me, altho' I'm not crazy about the colors of two of them. One pair is the wild color , which is what I wanted, one pair is pastel blue (which I'm not crazy about) and the fifth one is a heavily pied (spotted) baby. He couldn't remember which pair are the parents of the baby. Knowing which will tell me what genes they're carrying. But they're all healthy birds, and are adjusting remarkably fast. But they are talking across the sunroom with my other lovebirds, so they know it's a lovebird friendly environment. Plus, my sunroom is much larger, lighter, airier and cleaner than their previous home. I'll keep the two groups separate for a week or so, just to observe the new ones for disease, then put them all together.

Congratulations, Mama Heidi.

It is pouring rain here too. The back yard is one mushy icky place. I went to go outside a little earlier because I'm feeling housebound, but with the rain and mud there's no place to go. Maybe it's time for another nap.

HEIDI, sorry you did not get to stop here. You and I do not need to swap germs and be sick again! But being in Alabama and being at my house can be a long ride. another 2 and a half hours at least. I am in the center of the state, North south and east-west. I was thinking about you and your trip during our rains here, wondering if you got rain.

Sudokuaholics.

I'm just dropping in quickly to let you know I'm back. Like Broni, we are all going crazy with the rain. Today is starting out sunny, so the humidity will be horrendous.

We are going to collect Reggie from the kennel later today. They were closed for New Year yesterday and are only open between 1-5 this afternoon. It is really quiet around here without him - even with 6 adults in the house (1 visiting friend).

Have a lovely day all!

MizT, I'm so glad you didn't get a tornado, though the rain sounds bad too.

Broni, the patch used to do that to me. I used to say I could make a fortune if I could publish the stories my brain made up while I was sleeping, if only I could remember them for more than a minute after I woke up!!

Vicki, good to see you! 84% humidity here this morning and no sign of the 'drizzle' we are forecast to get.

Theresa, I hope you are feeling better today - chest colds take all of my energy too.

Heidi, sorry about your blintzes. I think our grocery stores were open new years day. We are classified as 'tourist' so things are open here that have to be closed in other places.

Tami, for years we used the ball dropping in NY to convince the kids that it was midnight and it was now time for bed. When we got to Australia we found that many places have fireworks at 9pm for the kids so we used them. Ally had an argument with us when she was about 12 that she had stayed up until midnight 'lots of times'...
