Nothing much doing today.
Got up early to take Hannah to an all-day thingy in relation to the camp she went to last year which was about an hour away. I expected to be back to pick her up at 3.30pm but one of the coordinators who happens to live up this way, offered to bring her home. Hannah was ok about it, so spent a particularly lazy day doing not much at all.
Tough, huh!
Had minestrone for dinner so nothing too taxing in the brain cell department.

Might hit the sack early tonight, nothing much on telly and I have been pretty tired of an evening lately. Must be this whirlwind life I lead...as if!
Night all.

Will I never learn? On this board, one cannot go visiting pages without loosing the comments you have typed in. I keep forgetting to open another tab!!
OK, lets see, something to Cyn, about all 3 of our kittens will get on dome roofs, but only scooter has made it to house roof. Something to bean about about me knowing at least 3 people who spin. One other comment I forget, Oh well, 66% is a barely passing grade hehehe.
Lovely photo of Ally, Suzy, and who is this Howard person? I am sure the Aussies would know him, but I haven't a clue.
OK, Tricia, post fore turning the page.

VIV, yes I did ask about what you were knitting. that variegated yarn makes for an interesting color pattern.
We had lights go out last night as I went to bed. Al had gone out to his office for a smoke and some computer time, but he came back in to bring me light! He knows I do not like to be in the dark when in bed, something about it is scary. But I had found my flashlight on bedside table, just where it should be.
Since it was far cooler outside than in, and no fans inside, we sat on porch with candlelight and moonlight, it was nice. Usually our power outages come with weather. Since we had good weather, Al said some good ole boy must have hit a power pole out celebrating the weekend.
I am off to kitchen to cook something. Catch you later friends.

MizT, hope they figured out what caused the power outage and you're back on line!
Suzy, cute pic of Ally at the show. Glad you had a great time in spite of the weather!
Bean, if Vici doesn't want to host the party, you could come to the East coast, NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC or even at Jane's in Georgia! That would be several 1000 miles closer for me and there are a lot of sudoku people on the east coast. Then Vici could come here!

I wasn't aware of the turmoil on Easy until I saw Keith's post today. I can't imagine what happened to prompt the question. I hope whoever had their feelings hurt is aware that there are a lot of others here who support them and care.

Heidi, your idea sounds good. Bean should come to the east coast. Start in the south and head north.
Viv and Tricia, I have not learned how to knit yet, but I want to. I learned how to crochet a few months ago but have not been practicing. I am hoping to get better at it this summer.
It is a short week. Last day for students is Thursday, and that is only a 1/2 day. Friday we finish packing up and then no more school until August. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now over to Easy. I'm glad I'm not the one being attacked this time.

I am being a bad mommy again. Mitchell has his pre-algebra final exam tomorrow. I am making him do extra homework for practice. And I am grading it. Luckily I have the answer key for his textbook so I don't have to do the work myself.

Even if he never uses those particular math skills, this is an excellent way to learn deductive reasoning, Tami. That will serve him all his life.

Heidi, Mitchell is taking an 8th grade math class and he is only in 6th grade. He will have high school algebra next year and hs geometry in 8th grade. He will have 2 high school math credits before he even starts high school.

Wow, that's fantastic Tami! It seems they are so far behind in math in NY. In trying to "fix" it a few years ago, they made it worse and kids just couldn't get it. Now, they're going back to the old ways of separating the maths, algebra, geometry, trig and calculus. Too late for some though. Bryana had to take two maths this year to try to catch up, algebra and geometry, in order to be able to take calculus by the time she graduates. When she was in NY, they were still doing Math A and Math B which combined all the maths together and didn't teach you the concepts. Math A was the reason both of my nephews dropped out of high school. Neither could pass the course and after 3 years and tutors, they gave up. (It was required to get your diploma at the time.) Bryana was one of only 4 students that passed the honors pre-calc exam to qualify to take the course!

Stella, Mitchell is not in a normal math class. He is in an advance program for all classes and an even more advanced math class. I teach 6th grade math to an advanced group. I teach out of a 7th grade book. Mitchell is ahead of that. What I teach is kind of what you described, a little of everything. They are changing the standards next year, 2010-2011 school year. In 6th grade I will be teaching mostly fractions, decimals and percentages. Instead of a little of everything, the kids will be able to master a few topics completely before moving on.

Hello everyone.
Do you think you will get to the Sudoku meet Troubles Mom?
Heidi...wonderful news that you are going.I hope you have such a good time that you will regularly take a much needed break away.
I keep going back to "easy"but still nothing about Jill's baby girl or boy.Glad they are both fine.

Good morning/afternoon all!! Just checking in. Since my last post I missed 4 pages!!! WOW!!!
I think it was Viv that mentioned migraines...I still get them too. I've had them since I was 16, but not as frequently as I used to.
Heidi: Glad to hear you're taking the trip.
Tami: Congrats to Mitchell on his grades ( I am anticipating him getting great ones!! He's very smart!!) Let me know how he & other beastie do this year!! They might get a surprise from Aunt Suzanne & Uncle Darrell...
Someone e-mailed about storms. We had a downpour with thunder & lightning, FORTUNATELY, our power stayed on this time.
That's all I can remember for now, will check in later, TTFN!

I'm getting ready to go to the State Lion's Club meeting. It's about 45 minutes away fortunately. Could have been MUCH farther.
I talked to Tami on Skype a little while ago. She's hoping to come to the Meet in Florida with her mother! FAN-bloody-TASTIC!!!

Morning all!
MizT, the John Howard in the photo is a well known Australian actor. I clarified it with 'from All Saints', which is the name of a TV show, because he shares a name with our ex prime minister.
Tami, I like the changes to the math curriculum. If they can't do those 3 things well then the rest of it will be impossible.
Heidi, the Lions Club was heavily involved in the thing we went to yesterday. I saw vans from 4 different local Lions Clubs and Pride, the group Ally sings with, is associated with one of them.

Stella, the lawnmower just wants food! While other horses around here are becoming winter lean, he remains chubby. He likes to eat!
Tami, Mitchell is doing so well! In the schools I've had anything to do with here I don't think he could do that without actually skipping years, which is not great as they are spending their time around older kids. I don't like that because even though they are bright, they are still kids. Your system sounds much better.

Tami... I did say HOPING to come.
I'm back from the meeting. It was quite enjoyable... very nice group.... and only one problem. I was elected to represent our local club because the person who had been our representative hadn't been going to the State meetings or the local meetings, and hadn't been returning anybodies phone calls. Well, she showed up today and made a scene about me being there.

Am currently feeling a bit envious of those who are planning to attend the Florida get-together. But I am also pleased that some of you will be able to attend and get to know some of the others from the site. I truly hope you enjoy yourselves and have a wongerful time!
I believe I read - maybe on Easy - that all your family are at home for a bit, is that correct, Stella? I certainly hope you are feeling better and enjoying every minute!
