I'm back from the closing. That property is now officially mine. I had recommended my favorite attorney to handle it, a good friend, since the sellers didn't know who to use. They were amazed at how easy, pleasant and inexpensive it was. The attorney did NOT tack on all sorts of additional expenses as is usually done.

NOLA, "walk in robe" was a bit of a stumbling block, as I was reading. took the second time to realize how that translates to American hehehe. First picture to pop in my head was from Harry Potter.
Happy for you Heidi, all the paper work is done, and you have your new pasture. When do you leave for FionaFest?
SUZY, I am embroidering again today. I need better eyesight for doing this double running stitch. Oh, the first half is easy, it is trying to find the same exact hole the thread went through on the first run that is vexing.

MizT... I leave the EARLY morning on the 23rd. As early as possible..... between 1 and 2 am. I'll arrive there just before 2 pm, and I plan on going for a swim, or at least beach combing until we take possession of the cottage at 3 pm.

Good afternoon all. Still at the library. Was supposed to be back on today but, of course, a mistake was made. Should be on tomorrow. Lets see what I can remember:
Heidi, glad the closing went well. Drive safely and I should see you saturday. Mom is supposed to come. If she doesn't, a friend might take a ride to keep me company. The beastie boys will be coming also.
Steve, get to the DAME. I know you want to get back in the air.
Brenda, still saying a prayer for your friend. I am glad she is holding on.
Don't remember anything else. I will be back tomorrow, hopefully.

When we were making out list of words different in Australian and American English, did we put wardrobe? Here, that is a piece of furniture, usually antique, from the days before built in clothes storag. Our built in storage in the USA is called a closet, UNLESS you were my MIL and FIL, and any storage was a pantry
Usual American usage of pantry is a closet or room with lots of shelves for food or other kitchen storage.
Shelves for storing blankets and towels and other bed/bath items is called a linen closet. No wonder others have such a problem learning English as a second language.

I like to drive at night, MizT. There are a lot less cars on the road so I can just enjoy my old radio shows, instead of worrying about too much traffic.

Rolalogue July 14th
Arrive in Daqing at 6:38am, check in to hotel, drop off luggage and clean up. Then off to visit a school [? which school] before lunch. They will split into two parties;
“mainly a boys group and a girls group. There will be massages, manicures, shopping eating and boys being boys. In the evening we will visit the TV Tower for a great view of Daqing and then we will go out for a delicious dinner.”
Some of the descriptions in the itinerary leave a lot to my imagination when trying to decipher exactly WHAT Rola a crew will be doing...umm...
‘boys being boys’???
That said, Daqing is not on the usual tourists agenda.
“Daqing Tourism: After being regarded as advanced in the Construction of a Civilized City Nationwide and the Model City of Cleanness, Daqing, in 2000, once again was titled the Excellent City for Tourism. in the following year, as the first inland city, she become the 15th Model city of Environment Protection of the country. Daqing is surrounded by clusters of greens and lines of trees with brightly shining lakes scattered. The city's tourism industry promises great potential for growth, and various tourist facilities have taken an initial shape, At present, more than 10 scenic areas have been developed such as popularizing the knowledge of petroleum, waterfowl hunting, spa recuperation, appreciating wild cranes, tasting Mongolian customs and visiting scenic grasslands.”

Greetings, Everyone! It looks like I may have a few minutes to read some comments, though I don't think I can get caught up. I hope everyone is well and enjoying the day!
I've been waiting for about a week for Gath to approve some "stained glass" looking avatars, but still nothing. Here's one I have had for a while.

Bean, yes, also interested in the boys being boys comment. Thank you so much for posting the itinerary every day, it has been such fun following Rolanda across China.
Heidi, I see your beach scene avatar and think Tami is back with us. Heidi, I like to sleep at night! What fun is driving when you cannot see the countryside you are driving through?
Julie, Grandies do seem to have more energy than grandparents have. Wish someone could bottle some of their excess energy and sell it, line starts behind me hehehe.
CynB, hope whatever it is keeping you so busy is at least pleasant, if not down-right fun! Glad you dropped in to say hello.

Boy, I should whisper, very quiet here tonight. I think it is time for me to call it a day. I have finished my embroidery, and also managed to break my embroidery hoop. this was one I bought a couple of years ago. Barely used it, they just do not make things as they once did. the wood split through the center of holes drilled where the brad holding on the adjustable thingy. I must see if I can find one I was given, very old, but much better made. But not tonight. It is time to hold my pillow down for a few hours. Catch you all tomorrow.

MizT.... I don't look around at the countryside when I drive. I watch the road, the other vehicles, and keep an eye out for any critter that might dash out onto the road. Even when I drive during the daytime, I see no scenery. This is why I've never had a car accident.

I am exhausted! Gail arrived about 10 and we got stuck into the grape vine. I am pretty amazed at how much of it we got through. Just when our enthusiasm was waning and lagging...easy to be overwhelmed when you are surrounded up to hip height with prunings... Judy turned up. She got stuck into chopping the vines up small so we could fit plenty in the bins...which are coincidentally both full again!! They left about half an hour ago ..[or so...]
With a bit of luck another days work should see the vine finished... then I will be able to start on the roses...I used to have 54...have no idea how many I have now...a few succumbed to the drought and a few more are waiting to go in the ground... It will be such a good feeling to get the garden up to date again...I do not think it has ever been so neglected for so long!
And now I am going to try and do some positive thinking about what on earth we can eat for dinner....
Tell me...how do you thank someone who has gone out of their way to help you with such an overwhelming task? I am so just so lucky to have been on the receiving end of so much practical help.
Hope to catch you all later.

Greetings to Gail and Bean and Gail and Suzy and Brenda and anyone else who happens to join us here.
Bean, you say THANK YOU and then do a kindness for someone, even if not the same someone, in return. Were there 'before' photos? that grape vine must have been a jungle all by it's lonesome. Will it bear grapes now after all the TLC it is getting?
SUZY, glad you could read, and hope your connection improves. We miss your comments here and all the news links you gave us. Suzy, I think I had much better eyesight back 8 years ago when I started this quilt!
Time to make coffee, I tried having a cup of tea (ginger herbal tea, good for the tummy) this morning, thinking I might go back to sleep, but does not seem as if that will happen. I will return.

Good morning all! Heading outside early this morning to get some priming done. Didn't watch the movie outside last night, it was too cold!! It was supposed to be a record LOW! The weather during the day is perfect though, when it's not raining! It gets up to low/mid 70's. That's almost 20 degrees below normal. Also, trying to get the house in order for when everyone stops on their way to Smuggler's Notch.
Off to grab a cuppa tea and head out. Have a great day!
ps: Gail & Judy, please come to my house next. I'm in desperate need of help!!

Lovely MzT! I'll join you for a coffee!
Eyesight? I was spoiled with wonderful eyesight my whole life. When I had to start using reading glasses in my 40's I got so depressed. I'm more use to it now after 10 years, but have digressed to bifocals much of the time as I can't read the little print on stuff when I am at the store.
Still squint thinking I can read something! ha-ha!

Good Morning Stella! I would love your weather. We actually have been cooler this July and even had some thunder showers last week. Unfortunately the temps are going to rise starting today. Hope it's just a mini-trend and that we get back to reasonable temps in the 80's.

Beanie - so happy you are getting through that massive grapevine - what angels you have in Gail and Judy.
MzT - loved what you said about all that...paying it forward, makes the love in the world go round!
Suzy and Tami - once again, nice to read some of your posts...always so good to see you guys here.
I'm with Heidi on wanting to drive through the night - I hate traffic. Staying awake is my only difficulty as I keep farmers hours and 1:00 a.m. is so past my bedtime...hmmmm - well, actually that would just be me waking up a bit earlier than normal to get on the road - ha!

Hiya Gail! How are your wrists from all the pruning? Bean's garden means soooo much to her, this is a wonderful gift you are giving. I totally get how fun it would be to hang out all day with that silly bean. Wish I were there to help - what giggles you all must have had yesterday with Judy joining in!

I'm so excited for you guys going to Fionafest...it was the most amazing event to meet all that sudoku family in SF last year.
I just know you will have the BEST time ever!
I'm hoping to Skype the gang when you are all together. Looking forward to some face to faces - I think Debby may be the only one there I haven't actually talked to face-to-face (thanks to Skype and the SF meet)...although we have chatted on the phone before. I'll have to check with Jane as to what time will be the best to hook up with ya'll!

Giggles, hmmm, along with a bit of moaning and singing supposedly atrocious songs, I don't remember a lot of giggling!!!
I can't drive through the night any more, I get white-line fever so quickly. When we drive over to Adelaide, we like to leave around 6 in the morning. With a couple of pitstops along the way, we usually get in around 3 in the afternoon.
