Raining here. Lovely to see it.
Synoptic Situation: 3:00 am EDT Tuesday
This is an update of a warning issued at 850 pm Monday.
A deep low pressure trough over northeastern NSW is resulting in rain and isolated thunderstorms over the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers districts. Locally heavy falls are expected to continue into the afternoon, and may result in flash flooding in some areas. Conditions are expected to ease later in the day or during the evening.
In the past 24 hours rainfall totals exceeding 200 mm have fallen in the Bellingen, Dorrigo and Bowraville areas. Totals exceeding 100 mm have been recorded at Coffs Harbour and Murwillumbah in the past 12 hours.
Separate Flood Warnings are current for the Bellinger, Orara and Nambucca Rivers.

Baby works for a name. I keep thinking of the movie "Bringing Up Baby". Baby was the name of a pet Leopard.

Morning all!
MizT, I hope your bath is installed and the weather has improved so you are free of the acheys.
Stella, I had a most unproductive day yesterday too.
June, I'm the only one in my family who will touch Xmas cake, which expands my hips if one comes into the house at Xmas...
Heidi, I keep thinking about a full grown budgie still called Baby...

Yikes, I just opened my memory to see where I have to be today and I wish I hadn't... I am getting my filling and then I head off to the skin doctor. I haven't been in ages so I suspect I will be covered in blisters when I leave him...

Hi Suzi, Heidi & Nola.
Further North of me for the flooding but so nice to see the rain.
Hope the visit to the skin doctor is not too bad Suzi.
Think I may be at the turning point of getting better with this flu.
I just remembered someone told me to put vicks on the soles of my feet before I go to bed to stop coughing.
I have done it this morning, have feet in old socks, in uggies.
Have to say have not couged near as much.

Viv, it's weird how these things work. They seem to make no sense at all and yet...
I have a 'spot' on my arm that is weird, other than that I think I will just get stuff frozen. It shouldn't be too bad at the skin doc. The dentist on the other hand...

Nola, the fires in Queensland sound really bad. I too wish there would be more rain up there. We are being told that the rain we are getting won't reduce the fire threat this year.

There have been lots of spot fires in the area.I haven't seen it this dry in years. We don't want another season like Victoria had, just so devastating.

We haven't heard about any bush fires, so was shocked to hear that there are some on the go this early in spring (for Australia) Fingers crossed that there isn't a repeat of the ones earlier this year.

Brenda, there have been some big ones in both Queensland and northern NSW. It's pretty scary so early in the season.
My knitting is going very slowly and very badly. The yarn is so slippery I keep dropping stitches on the 'easy' rows. Luckily it's the kind of design that hides mistakes - I hope. I have knitted more complicated jumpers before, but not in this type of yarn, and not for a long time. I've also had this thing where my left hand just stops working, or goes so numb it's like a lump at the end of my arm. Not while I'm knitting though, which is weird.

Sudokuaholics! I hope you're all having a wongerful day!
CynB, so glad to hear your Mum enjoyed her flowers, party and refreshments! Who cares if she and the other residents ate their dinners? They're at the age when they can have dessert first!
Suzy, I truly understand your "December schedule!" We still keep a calendar going for just the 2 of us, though now we add in doctor appointments, etc., for MIL. When our D's were still at home, we kept a desk-size calendar and used color-coding for each daughter, scouts, music lessons, etc. I know you'll be busy, but you'll get everything done!
Mmmm! June, the Christmas cakes smell delicious! Now, talk about organized!
Stella, you said I should tell my doctor to think of me as his mother. Well, the interesting thing is that I have MET his mother - and had dinner at her house. Another long story, but his father was a music teacher at a university. After the father's death, a music competition was started in his name. D#1 won first prize one year and was able to solo with the Detroit Symphony (when we were invited to dinner). D#2 won the Audience Prize a couple of years later. We actually met the Dr. at dinner, as well.
The birthday dinners at Rolanda's and Gail's sounded delicious!

Suzy, if Baby doesn't sound right for a full-grown budgie, it could be shortened to Babe. (I have now read that Nola also suggested Babe. Great minds and all that!)
BTW, Suzy, I hope your visits to the dentist and skin doctor, are bearable.
Thanks, Bobbi, for letting us know your hubby's name. I hope you and Bernie had a wonderful day celebrating with Tami and family!
Nola, in a way it's good that work is the same old thing. You'd kind of wonder what happened if you got back from holiday and found everything changed! We've been having dull, dreary, damp days here. Wish we could send you some rain, but I think it's just a little too far.
I also hadn't heard about fires already this season in Australia. Praying for rain in all the right places and no "crazies" with matches/lighters and no stray lightning strikes to cause any more fires!
Brenda, another great jumper!
Suzy, I hope your knitting gets easier! What makes the yarn slipperier than usual, do you think?

Yes on the up side now I think.
Still cannot sleep through the night, I sat up from midnight till 2am doing sudoku that I had printed off.
Tonight I must remember this trick of putting vicks on the soles of my feet inside my sockies, to stop the coughing.

Good morning lovely people. Some rain and thunder overnight - would like more rain though. Our bushfires so far have had no casualities but people were evacuated up around Rockhampton - north from Nola by a few hundred km. I'm not saying it will never happen, but for some reason bushfires up here are never as devastating as the ones down south - don't know why!
Viv - as long as the Vicks does the trick. It always works for me to have Col rub some into my back before I go to bed if I've got the flu. Gives me enough relief to sleep.

Apologies in advance to those who have no idea what Stella and I are talking about.
Stella - re Zoo - we all get given 3 animals to start with but there are some that are elusive - in my case the camel, hippo, tree frog and flamingo. I'll send you a tiger next opportunity and will check if there's a way to send you the snake - you might have to buy it. Let me know what other common ones you need. Took me forever to get an elephant yet other zoos with just 3 animals on them had it - I felt discriminated against, severely.

Suzy, glad the new budgie is happy. I like the name Baby. It makes me think of "Dirty Dancing" Viv, take care of yourself. I do hope that you are feeling better soon.
They are giving the swine flu vaccine at school in the next few weeks. There is no charge for the students but the parents must give permission. I am thinking of taking it also. I really don't want to get sick and they say that it affects kids more.

Just passing.. busy here.. House to clean, Ironing to finish off, mum to pick up ( later this afternoon), Birthday Dinner to prepare.
Just made the Gluten Free Pastry for the Lemon Meringue Pie, son's girlfriend's mum made some suggestion, to which I followed.. and the Pastry looks ok..
I hate making pastry, I always buy the ready rolled or the ready made pie crust..
unfortunately that doesn't come Gluten Free.

Tami, hope your day goes well! Three-hour workshops after a full day of school need to be extremely interesting! I hope that's the case for you!
Rolanda, you're very thoughtful to make a gluten-free pie crust! Some people would just assume your son's girl friend could skip the dessert or substitute something else. If I remember from reading, gluten-free diets are pretty difficult to follow.
