you gals are great! i can't believe we have so many ex-smokers here! i watched my dad try off and on for 20 years to quit. i am sooo impressed with anyone who can kick the habit. it would be like me giving up foods with sugar, butter (which i store in the freezer. i only use butter, i just can't stand margerine.) or white flour in them! way to to rena and heidi and mizt!!!!

I found quitting after smoking heavily for 28 years to be fairly easy. I woke up one morning and had an epiphany. I suddenly realized that it cost me more to buy cigarettes than it did to feed my Collies. I had 24 Collies at the time. I thought burning up and smoking all that money was stupid, and have never had another cigarette. That was it.

I'm taking a break right now. I hauled the first load of hay, unloaded it, and fed 3 of the rolls to the cows. Now some lunch, then out for a second load.

Hi Everyone...Hope this is a better day for you Suzy....It had to be frustrating, but its over for now...
I'll add my name to the non-smokers list for over 16 years...it helped, but I still am affected by the over 30 year habit and have a chronic respiratory illness that limits me more than I like...but It could have been worse....as long as I don't catch cold I function pretty well, however my doctor is now looking into getting me into a scooter or motorized wheel chair for the times when I am in difficulty...I can hardly walk a block then without stopping...but I keep on moving...life is good and I intend to live while I'm among the living....So I also add my congratulations to all who have quit...no easy task for many, myself included, and am happy some of you had the good sense not to start. Some us however were at the age where smoking was a rite of passage to adulthood...glad that's no longer true...none of my kids or grands have ever smoked....

Good morning everyone.
I arrived home safely..took me 5 hrs because of the rain and traffic was shocking.I think everyone had the same idea of getting home on the Sat after the long week-end to avoid just that.
Broni..the road works near you really slowed us down to a crawl.
Its back to work this afternoon but having 3 weeks hols in Feb yahoo.

Back with the second load of hay. Originally, I thought those hay rolls weighed about 1,500 lbs. I was wrong. They're more like 2,000 lbs (1 ton) each. I've been hauling 10 of those each time. I think even the tractor is tired!

Yep, 4 trips to go..... but not today. It's now raining, and if I'm hauling 20,000 lbs. of hay on a hauler without brakes, I'm not going to do it on a slippery road. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

Hm..... my last break away from the animals....... that was 2 1/2 years ago, when I was at my Grandmother's bedside while she was dying. I was closer to her than to any other family member, and I was holding her hand when she passed.

Thats sad. Both about your Grandmother and your last holiday. Not really a holiday though.Wish I could come and give you a break.Cant drive a tractor though or shoot anything but would love the animals.
Not much help this far away.
Suppose you have to keep plodding away like you do!

Not plodding. I do this because I want to. There's nothing else I'd rather do, and the few times I go anywhere, I spend the whole time worrying about my animals.

Heidi, two of my friends have young children with glandular fever - mono. One is 10, the other 13. The 10 year old has just been selected to play on a soccer team that will travel all over the state to play. I'm hoping the glandular fever doesn't put an end to her plans!!

Does anyone here ever have the problem I sometimes have - having to explain SA because you have said 'a friend' or something similar in conversation???

I only have the problem of explaining it to Idiot Husband. He can't grasp the concept of being friends with people I haven't met face to face in person.

Most people think it is fine but can't understand being on the computer so much. They feel it is wasting a lot of time.My house looks like it needs some TLC especially since being away for 3 days.
But I am still here...in my defence,I do have a load of washing on!!

I have told a few people about SA and they think it is great that I have friends all over the world. A few of them have thought about signing up. If my friends do join, there will be a lot more "trouble" than there is now.

My husband thinks I am on the computer too much also. I find it very relaxing to sit here and have a "conversation" with so many of my friends. I just got a webcam. Just need to install it and learn how to use it. I will then join skype and be able to have real conversations with my friends.
