The head feels like it's stuck in a vise, and it's being tightened down. I think I'm just gonna feed the dogs now and go to bed really early.

Hi Everyone. Hope everyone is having a good day. The local news was at my school today as we are 90% African-American. If you want to see the video go to www.wsvn.com then click on the local link. look on the right side under the little tv screen and click on "ft. lauderdale teacher makes inauguration a teachable moment." You will see several students and one of the teachers from my school.

Also, for those of you who watched the parade. J. P. Taravella High School was the only High School from Florida to march in the parade. My neighbor, directly across the street, is in the color guard and was in the parade today. she is one of the girls with the flags. She is a very nice young lady who also babysits the beastie boys occassionally. My niece was also at the inauguration on a school field trip. She left sunday morning and will come home wednesday evening.

Cannot remember if I mentioned that I will be taking a week off in February to go to the Southern 80 Ski(water) Race. I am hiring a campervan so Bella and I will be travelling again.

I spent the day watching everything on tv. My class has lunch around the time of the swearing in so we went to the cafeteria, the kids got their trays, and then we came back and had lunch in the classroom while watching. It was really cool to see how excited the kids were.

Hello all! My absence can be explained: I just stated a new semester at school and I'm actually having to do some reading (of text books). Bleh! I hope everyone is well... and warm. It has been hovering around 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) around these mountains for the day's high temperature!

On another note, I told my brother that I had found you guys and am trying to get him to join in on the "chatter boxing" as well. (He's very shy, so I'm not promising anything.)

Jazzy... GREAT to hear from you again. I was wondering where you were.
Tell your brother that this is a great place for shy people. Believe it or not, I am painfully shy. These sweet, caring people here make me comfortable enough to talk, and even bare my soul occasionally.

Just read a few comments before going back to read! It's so nice to see you visiting here, Jazzy! We knew you must be busy - and a new semester of school would provide lots of busy! I hope your brother will join in, too. He's always welcome - and would not be the only male, as vdV does a fly-by frequently. (His real name is Steve.) Canuk Greg also makes an appearance from time to time. We usually write glowingly about our spouses, and many of us can speak "male."

I had a wonderful time with Ally today. The group sang to some disabled children - cerebral palsy seemed to be the most common, though not the only, disability. I was grinning from ear to ear watching the children dance, bop, bounce, squeal... Billy (not their real names) is confined to a wheelchair but managed to dance with his head, Jill stood with the group, copied their moves, and made noises that were almost singing for at least half of their songs, Jane sang a song with the group backing her up, Jim played air guitar to every song, Bob (who is blind) bopped his head to the music and danced when one of the girls, then one of the teachers, took him by the hand. It was wonderful! Inspiring! Beautiful!

Hi all. Thanks for the well-wishes for my finners. The frostbite was mild (purple tips and blue nails for about 30 min.). Did the "old wives" cure and now are right as rain.

Heidi, hope your headache gets better.

I know how shy I am but on this site i can let myself go and be as witty or mad as i wish. if I was in the same room as you all [I would'nt be able to get a word in] I would be stumbling over my words tongue tied and sitting in a corner. So I know how Heidi feels.

Bit of a wallflower here, too. Hate talking in front of a group of strangers, but I don't think of anyone here as a stranger. Strange maybe, but not strangers.

Hello, again! Brenda, thanks for sharing the picture of the new little great-nephew. Rolanda, I enjoyed your pictures of your anniversary. I had forgotten that you and Peter have a height difference like hubby and I have. (He's 6 feet, 6 inches, and I'm 5 feet, 5 inches.) I hope you had a wonderful anniversary! Wow - flowers delivered to the caravan!

Becky, I don't know that Ally truly appreciated how special today was. For her people with disabilities have always had opportunities and been recognised as having value. She doesn't remember the days when they were hidden away or institutionalised. I do however, and it was wonderful to me!!

Broni, it's cooled down quite a lot - beautiful now! I just went and opened some windows.
Suzy, it sounds as though Ally is learning about more than singing.
eaa, this site is great for shy people! Also, if you think something you "said" sounds stupid you can just erase it, and no-one will ever know! I'm not that good with people - my first day at Uni I sat in my room alone all day. I didn't know what time lunch was, so I went without. At dinner time I found out there was another girl two rooms away from me who'd been alone and bored - she asked why I didn't just knock on doors till I found someone! I couldn't tell her I'd rather starve than knock on a stranger's door...

Heidi, I hope your headache is MUCH improved. Becky, I'm glad to hear that your fingers have improved from the frostbite! I had heard the same thing - once you have been "bitten," it's very easy for it to happen again.

It's interesting that Heidi's admission of shyness is echoed by eaa and Becky. To be honest, I would need to add myself to the list. Luckily, it just "feels" different being here among friends!

Becky...you sum it up perfectly....strange but not strangers...hehe
Eaa I am just like you with strangers or I was. The university of hard knocks has rubbed off a lot of the sensitive bits and although I still avoid large crowds and public speaking I generally don't fuss too much about anything. I have a rather thick hide now adays and there are plenty of people around that do like me that it is stiff bickies for those who don't. Those that don't appreciate me are the ones that are missing out...or that is what I tell myself...

As for teh sudoku lot...you are all my other family and that is different...I love you all...

Suzy, what a wonderful experience for Ally and her group! When our children were little (about age 4-9 or 10, I think), their Suzuki violin group frequently played at children's hospitals and retirement and nursing homes. Often the residents "sang along" with them. They seemed to enjoy it, and what a great experience to see people of various ages and abilities!

Bean, I second your opinions about people who like us versus those who don't and this Sudoku family of ours. You're right - if someone doesn't like us, they probably don't know us - and it's their loss for not taking the time or effort to get to know us. That doesn't make it any easier to speak in front of a group (for me, more than 3 or 4 people).

Our children have soloed with orchestras, which I could never possibly have done. I should take the time to tell them how amazing I find that, and remind them how we are so proud of them each day, as musicians, but also as people!
