Hello lovely SA7 people - has anyone heard from Susan since her posts where the water was coming into her house? Just heard the news - the situation there is getting worse by the hour.
I hope they are alright.

Hi Rolanda - Brisbane is showery and currently 24c - expected 28C. I think we're just at the bottom end of all the rain up north. According to the weather channel February is going to be wet most days here - usual for February anyway. Not good when starting a mowing business but after the rain the grass will be long.

You probably all have it, but just in case, Susan has sent an email and is fine - but there is 60cm/2 feet of water in her house and it is still rising. They've been touring in their boat checking things out.

or should it be ? It's now past 11:30 pm here. I'm not quite sure if that qualifies as evening or night. I'm keeping everyone who is dealing with weather extremes and difficulties in my thoughts and prayers.

Gail, how was Toy Elephant's first day back? Did she get teachers she likes?

Ebob has the worst science teacher - wish I hadn't done my prac there so I didn't know that! Apparently they are going to rotate teachers throughout the year so it may work out okay...

News story of the day (because we all need a laugh)

Heatwave too much for a koala to bear

Basically a koala walked into a family's laundry. They filled a bucket with water, it checked it out, then climbed in. There are photos of it sitting in the bucket looking like lord or lady muck!

I know the link looks wrong, but this news site often gets that bit messed up

Sorry Suzy, had to duck down to the shops straight after I posted, so I did not see your question.
Her reaction to the inevitable 'How was school' question - 'Meh, schoolish...HOT'!
She seems quite happy so far. She and her besty changed one of their subjects from Food Tech (didn't like the teacher they would have had, she is supposedly very critical!) to Wood Tech, and she has Mr Reid (the young blonde hottie) for history, so all's good so far!

Hi all. It stopped snowing here last night,it does look beautiful but is rather slippery.
In this area of England they are not used to snow more than an inch or less so everything grinds to a halt. London yesterday didn't have any buses and there was only 2tubelines running these were the ones which are totally underground.
Schools have a second snow day so kids and teacher daughter are at home Richard has gone into London office today

Yes Brenda, it made the news here too. The mayor said there is no reason to spend money they don't have on snowploughs for a once in every twenty years event.

Really hope Susan is still OK latest report:

Posted 1 hour 43 minutes ago
Updated 1 hour 42 minutes ago

About 1,000 homes have been surrounded by floodwaters and more people are being forced to leave their homes.

The Herbert River has peaked at its highest level in 20 years and is not expected to begin to fall before tomorrow.

Rain is continuing to fall in the river catchment and flood boats are being used to evacuate flooded homes.

More than 400 millimetres of rain has fallen in two days, with the town experiencing its third largest flood on record.

Just checking in quickly. The flood water is now 72cm deep in our bottom storey and still rising. It's still raining heavily. We have about 5cm to go before the first power point goes underwater and we lose power. Water no longer drains from the kitchen sink. Upstairs looks like a giant garage sale with most of the furniture from downstairs up here. We will be OK, it's only material possessions that we will lose. We could only bring upstairs or lift so much stuff. A crocodile was spotted in the next street. I've had enough but there are people here who have lost everything and you can't get flood insurance here. Fingers crossed that the low off the coast doesn't turn into another cyclone or bring more rain.

For those who have emailed me about my mum, thanks for your concern. Mum's farm house block is totally flood free, although cut off from everywhere, and she is fine. My brother is staying with her. He doesn't need to worry about floodwaters like I do.

Also so glad you have a 2 story home.

Brenda - glad you are not too hurt by the freak snow storm. When I lived in Chicago (in the 70s) I use to love when the whole city came to a screaching halt do to a severe storm. It was lovely to walk to the store and everything so quite...people taking a day or two off.
