Goodnight all - talk to you in the morning.

I forgot to mention when I got back here that my darling husband has a broken rib!!
Last weekend he and some friends went carting (for a friend's 48th birthday celebration)Richard mistimed a turn and ended up in the tyre wall and broke a rib. He still carried on for the next 45 minutes, went back to friends home had lunch and then drove 100 miles back home. I then took him to accident and emergency hospital to find that it was indeed a broken rib. Nothing they can do for it apart from painkillers and no lifting for a few weeks. Trouble was that he was supposed to be dismantling office desks and packing up office equipment for a move first thing the next day.
Fortunately Son and Daughter with the help of my older brother sorted everything out for him before we actually got back from the hospital.
Now he has to drive into London every day aas he can't use public transport because he has to carry a laptop case everyday.

Everybody! Don't faint!!! I don't know what I'm doing up at this hour either. Very strange.
Great news on Sammy, Liz!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the improvement is genuine.
How far is it to London, Brenda? I know what he's going through. I once broke 4 ribs when riding a bicycle in college. Had a hell of a time carrying books to classes.

BRENDA, From page 313,

We have freecycle here. I get rid of a lot of things through that. Have got a couple things I wanted, also. Ran into one problem, although the rules are, the person receiving object must come pick up at givers convenience, there is a group on our local who always ask you bring to them. As we live in a rural , large county, that could involve a lot of driving when one offers several items.

Good morning all! Foggy this morning. Hope that means it will be a nice day!

Busy cleaning and organizing. Ugh!

Have decided to go to Bryana's game tomorrow. It's her last home game. Jerry made pizelles and I'll make brownies tonight. So much to do, so little time!

BTW, good Maen Sudokuland!

. . . . .WARNING . . . . .continuing internet connection saga follows. . .

As Rolanda told me on instant messenger last night, my computer connection problem is still not resolved! ATT, the DLS provider over our phone lines, has sent a tech out twice! they find no problem from our pole where telephone line comes in, through our house and computers. Problem is elsewhere.

We think it is caused by dusk to dawn light across street. When it flickers on and off, I loose connection. It flickers a lot. Hubby stopped in at local power co and talked to one of their engineers. they will be out within a week or two to repair that light. I HOPE SO!

This seemed to start about the time our power co changed to digital power meters. These new meters "call home" reporting power usage over the power lines. We share a transformer with the residence that has the offending dusk to dawn light. Maybe that is part of the problem, some feedback over the line. We are not sure, but it is a pain!

ATT was to phone us yesterday to see if their latest try on Saturday had us working, (it is not) and they did not call. May I give one giant primal scream?

AAAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

The good thing now is, it is daylight here now and the light is OUT till dark and i shall have connection till dark, YEAH! Had big problems this last hour.

I keep checking tracking at the USPS website. I have 5 pigeons and 1 Betta in transit. I like to meet them at the main hub for the area and save them 1 day in transit.

Hello all! Good Maen where ever you are!
Looks like I've missed sleepy heads Gail and Cyn...understandable - and Stella, too - not so sleepy but off to a busy day.
Hiya Brenda (broke a rib last December when I almost fell through the ceiling rafters - landed on my rib which broke and broke my fall, thankfully)

Opps - missed Heidi, too - can't even imagine 3 ribs broken - one was painful enough!
MzT - I'd be going MAD if I were you experiencing all those internet woes. At least when we were on dial-up (FOR-EV-ER!) it was something you just accepted because it was a constant. Hope the power company squares this away for you once and for all!

BRENDA and VIV, my hubby has made a bit of $$$ removing Vista from new machines friends have bought! Usually takes them less than a week to be fed up with it. Most of them want gaming machines, play a lot of games, maybe that is why they do not like it, I do not know. It takes a LOT of doing to remove it, but he has figured it out. That will teach his friends to not go out and buy a machine but come and let Al build them one!

My thoughts re: gas prices lowering...
Has anyone else ever noticed that this happens just before elections? I have seen this for several years now...doesn't that tell us something???? I also see the prices go right back up within a month or so after a election is over. Expect the same this time!!! Grrrr

There is a lot of definition lost in the avatar...you can actually see that the curved structure to the left of the seedling is the cotyledon's [seed leaf that emerge from the seed embryo] of a newly emerging seedling. The cotyledon's protect and nourish the developing seedling and usually wither and drop off after the first true leaves have formed. OK, that is the botany lecture over for today. LOVE botany...bit of an obvious statement!! Goes hand in hand with my passion for flowers and botanical illustration.

Here is a link to a diagram which, once enlarged, will demonstrate it better than my words.

A funny , or not so funny really . . .

Letter to the bank:
Dear Sirs,

In view of what seems to be happening internationally with banks
at the moment, I was wondering if you could advise me... if one of my checks is returned marked "insufficient funds," how do I know whether that refers to me or to you?

Bean, I was wondering for a moment then about you. I went to school with a girl who became a botanist. She now lives in Melbourne and shares your middle name. But then I had a better look at your photo, and couldn't see a resemblance. You didn't go to school in Queensland did you?

Hi MizT, I was hoping you'd pop in. I'm looking at buying a new laptop for uni son, about 4 gig. He doesn't seem worried about Vista, and is studying IT. Can I ask what the problem with it is?

Before you ask, Suzy, even though his current laptop was super fast and big when I bought it 2 years ago, it's no longer the case, and with some of the things he needs to be able to do with his studies, it's starting to strain, so it gets passed down the line to his brother. I don't want a new one, too much work to install programs etc. My 3 year old 'dinosau' is heaps big enough and fast enough for what I want.

MizT... loved the bank funny, too. I MAY try it on my bank. ( Small town friends with a sense of humor.)

USPS is not updating their site, and I can't find my critters. I will have to hit the phone and burn the lines.
