Congrats, Mariana!

Yes, I am a bit of a fix it up, use it up kind of person. comes from my grandmother and my Dad who had life really hard during the depression! Mom, not so bad, her Dad was a railroad engineer and the railroads had to keep on keeping on. but with the crayons, it was the girls themselves who cold not bear to throw away their trusted friends, even though they did not want to draw with them again.

One of their favorite things to do with all the broken crayons was to get a sturdy sheet of paper and then color REALLY HARD and dense with the crayon, in stripes or wavy lines of color, then to color over this with black or navy blue, again, really hard, densely covered. Then give them a non functioning ball point pen, ( nope did not save those but could almost always find one) and let them draw, removing the black to reveal the various colors below. Stick figures and houses with smoke coming from the chimney took on a whole new dimension doing that.

thank you, thank you.
most of my kids seemed/seem to be happiest with sticks, or mud. they were and are SO active. elsa is the only one who has shown an interest in the creative arts. she doesn't like coloring books preferring to do her own thing. at 2 1/4ish she was drawing people, complete with hands, feet, ears and the other basics. it is more common to start doing that around 4, like my other children. brilliant, of course.

Morning all!

Mariana - congrats on finally getting your TOPP! Now I will divulge that it is addictive. Now that you've had one you'll crave more....

Elsa is drawing the accessories very early! When Ebob started school she was drawing complex pictures at home (older than elsa). At school she drew stick figures. The school was using these figures as a measure of development. We were horrified. When we had her first PT interview we took along a picture she had drawn of a purple people eater - complete with earings, nails, hair decorations as well as the right number of fingers and toes. When they brought out her drawings and began to discuss 'things we need to do' we pulled out the drawing. Her teacher was very surprised, especially when we asked why she thought Ebob was drawing like this at home and stick figures at school...

not so strange suzy. at home my teenagers think they are SO smart, you know like they can't believe how dumb mom is to think that they should bike a mile to school instead of asking me for a ride. brilliant little stinkers. however, they just don't show the teachers at school how smart they are. argg! their grades aren't bad, but there is room for improvement. i guess one of the frustrations as a parent is to see the potential of your children go unrealised by themselves. i'm pretty sure though that the last three of mine will be perfect.

Mariana, I am so glad you said that! Ebob has me hitting my head against a brick wall. e.g. They have had 2 sets of whole-year exams in math this year. (Everyone in the year takes the tests at the same time, though there are 3 different tests and which ones you take depend on past performance in math). Both times the tests have been scheduled, Ebob has forgotten. Both times she has come close to 100% in the intermediate test - without studying obviously - and achieved poor results in the advanced test. I am so tired of saying 'how do you know what you can achieve if you don't give it your best shot'....

I had to laugh at the 'dumb mom' comment Mariana. I have had a couple of instances where the kids have come home and with big surprised and wonderous eyes have said the principal 'said the same thing you did - in exactly the same words!'. Does heaps for my credibility!!

The most recent one was a comment I made about some kids who were missing a lot of school. I said it was very sad because they missed so much work that it became difficult to catch up, which made all of their school work difficult and they would start to hate school. The very same week, the principal said the same thing. It was like I was a genius or something in Ally's eyes! I didn't remind her that I have been studying to become a teacher for a while now and probably read it somewhere. It was nicer to take genius-credit....

amazing how a little logic can sound so smart. well, so much for my perfect elsa. just as i was posting that last comment she poured her milk on our very kind, patient, wooley tulio. poor pup. he was due for a bath, but he was taken by surprise by it. he is a great dog. the only things he is naughty about is zooming out the door and down the street, and not pooping in the spot where we tried to train him to go. he also is like a mule and will stop in the middle of his walks and REFUSE to budge. not a bad 7 1/2 mo. old puppy huh? we love our tulio.

ROFL Mariana! Sorry, I know the extra unplanned work can mess up a day, but I love it. Elsa is an up and coming scientist experimenting on the reaction that will occur when milk is mixed with dog.....

Tomorrow June. Today I have to wash the clothes the kids brought home with them, pack bags, including food for the caravan, do my belly busting walk again, show neighbours how to feed the dogs and TipTap, make sure all bins are empty so we don't come home to a stinky house etc etc.. All the usual day before a trip stuff with walking thrown in.....

I am sure you will have a great trip Suzy and I hope Ebob gets plenty of play time and plays well. There are now rules in place to ensure a player gets a minimum time on the field.
The first time our son made a state side about '78 they went to Perth. he was probably the youngest in the team and he came up to bat the for the first time when the team were 9 runs ahead. The runner on third stole home and they called time and game.He came off in tears.
I think he player about two digs all up and you can imagine what that cost us to send him to Perth. We also left the girls with my parents (at the farm which they loved) and flew over for about 6 days to watch him play. It was a couple of years after that the minimum participation rule came in.
