Why worry about what animals can hurt or kill you, MizT? Human beings are the most dangerous animal on the planet, and the only ones who kill for fun. No animal has ever made another species extinct except man. I hear how many people are killed by sharks every year, but I never hear how many sharks are killed by people each year. Probably more than 1000 times as many. Bulldog ants killed 6 people in the last 20 years. How many bulldog ants were killed by people in those same 20 years? Probably whole nests of them. No, the only animals that scare me are humans.

Hi, Sudoku Friends!
Heidi, that's a lot of snow for you! I'm so glad the little bull calf is doing well and that all of your cows and calves are in a sheltered area where they can stay warmer. I'm assuming the same is true for your horses. You were brilliant to reschedule your epidural! You can stay at home and enjoy the warmth and avoid the snow and ice!
MizTricia, your entertainment sounds fun. Those are some dedicated women if they perform somewhere every week. Stay safe and warm inside, please.
Heidi, that does well for a TOPP. Animals are not the ones to be feared, unfortunately.
It's time to call it a night. Sending greetings to June, Nola, Broni and others who weren't able to visit today and others who visit as often as they can. Positive thoughts, healing energy, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and
for all!

I just finished plowing our main driveway (1/8 mile), the circular driveway to Gil's lab and our neighbor George's driveway (combined = 1/8 mile). It's harder doing it with the bucket of a tractor than it is with a real snowplow. But they are now usable driveways instead of impassable barriers of snow.
Tomorrow's high is only supposed to reach 8˚F / -13.3˚C and the low is going to hit -10˚F / -23.3˚C!!!! I think this will be the coldest temperature I've experienced in Kentucky. Thanks for sending it here, Canada!!!!

Hi, Everyone!
Heidi, I had heard that they were finally getting to secondary roads for plowing! It's a good thing you can do what you need to do to keep access to your home/farm! Hopefully those cold temperatures won't hang around for long!
Sending lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts, prayers, healing energy, and
to everyone!

Me too Heidi. I read the main page and easy puzzle was not available today, but clicked my bookmark for this page and here I am! Someone on FB said they had e mailed to Gath about the problem, but as it was 3 am at the time down under, doubted he would see it till later. I see that it is ':later' now, perhaps the page will be returned to us soon.
IT IS COLD HERE! I went out long enough to buy some fruit from the veggie man. I did not want to go to the grocery today or tomorrow, the wind is terrible, blowing the cold through layers of clothes. I do need to go cover the plants, this cold wind will dry them and freeze them at the same time, bummer. I need to put on a second layer of pants, my legs got the coldest.
Wondering if we will play scrabble today. The Ash Wednesday is also at 3 pm, and at least one of our players will probably attend that. May be we will start later today. We did not play last week, and I most likely will not play next week (biopsy is Tuesday, I will be recuperating)and that is too long a string of Wednesdays without playing.
I hope everyone topside is keeping warm. My sister is in Florida, complaining that it will only get to 60 today and also very windy down there. I would take 60 over our 32 with a wind chill on the low 20's today.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till it gets warmer hehehe

Busy day today, starting with the dentist and then to a movie and lunch with my neighbour. It is my delayed birthday treat. We wait until school returns after their long summer holiday.
We were going yesterday but I was supposed to have someone coming to do some gardening but he did not turn up and was not answering his phone so not sure when he will come.

The driveway is plowed.... again... but the wind is blowing so hard that it's quickly drifting over again. The temperature is falling swiftly, too.

I let IH use my tractor to go down to Don's farm (8 miles away) to feed the sheep and guard dogs. He's been having fun stopping along the way plowing people's driveways. He called me once for instructions how to do a few things with the tractor.

It is nice of Gil to help the neighbors by p,owing their drives, but where was he when your drive needed plowing? Oh, that's right, he gets good standing in the neighborhood by plowing the drives of other people, but not from doing his.
Cold cold here all day. I played scrabble then was hurting so much I took meds and went to bed. It was dark when I got up, and I forgot to go cover the flowers, bummer. they will have to fend for themselves tonight.
Judy had a fantastic day at scrabble. One word scored her 95 points, then another got her over 50. No need to say who won today's game hehehe. Her highest scoring word was clannish, and scored it on triple word score, plus 50 points for using 7 letters. We enjoyed having the new dictionary, except it is bigger and heavier then the last edition. I imagine 3000 new words can be a bit heavy.
That is all for tonight, going to bed early again tonight. Last night I went to bed at 10 pm, and slept till 10:30 this morning, only up twice for bathroom and meds.
Glad you found a way to visit, June. It seems only you, Heidi and I found the way in through a back door. I do hope the site is repaired soon, so all can get here.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

I praised IH for helping people in town with their driveways. Helping people is a good habit to get into. This was the first time he attempted plowing snow EVER. I have no idea what kind of job he did, but he said that they can get their vehicles in and out now, so it musn't have been that bad a job.

Hello, Everyone, and Good Night. Our temperature is dropping either further. Most schools in Chicago and suburbs are closed for tomorrow because of the extreme cold.
Heidi, I guess we should congratulate IH for helping to plow other people's driveways. Maybe next time he can do yours?
June, I'm glad your dentist appointment went well! Hope you enjoyed lunch & a movie with your friend.
MizT, I'm glad you got to play Scrabble, but too bad you were in pain! I hope the meds and extra sleep help to moderate that!
Speaking of sleep, I need some! Sending prayers, positive thoughts, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, healing energy, and
for all!

You might have cold up north but Nola will be affected by the cyclone which is crossing the coast north of where she lives.
I had a nice day out but 'Kingsman' is not necessarily the type of movie I would normally go and see. I was never a great James Bond fan and this film was similar but more so.

Hi all, it is a long time since I posted but I have been reading.
Just letting you know that so far, we are Ok with a catagory 4-5 cyclone looming.
I felt an earth tremor a few mornings ago, and those up in the northern hemisphere are experiencing extreme cold. The weather and earth is just mad.
Broni....GOOD ON YA!!
Wishing you all good health and happiness.

Afternoon All, Sunny and rather balmy here...temp's up to -8c or 18f...seems almost like a beach day compared to some places. Our extreme ,extreme cold is due later tonight...so over this stuff, and looking forward to warmer temps...at least for a while.
Broni, what is sending you all around Australia for 9 months? Just asking, but happy for ya since you sound so up about it. Hope Bella recovers quickly and you get all things in order. Nola, happy to know that you are okay , at least for now. After all that you have gone through I hope you escape with no damage this time if the cyclone hits near you.Heidi, glad you have encouraged Gil to help others...as you said, it's a great thing to do. Julie and Tricia...stay warm....and Tricia, use those healing vibes Julie keeps sending as she heads off to bed, to feel better soon. Would love to have you feeling in good shape and Julie well rested. Like June has said...busy lady always up early and to bed late...smh and smiling at the energy. Yesterday I had a chest cat scan to see if there is any thing causing me additional problems with my breathing. My doctor doesn't like the way I sound...nor do I like the way I feel...but the meds are helping. I go back to see her next week and should know the results by then. I do look forward to seeing something other that my walls at home and the doctor'd offices or hospitals so must get to feeling better soon so that I can take a short trip somewhere before I go nuts...if its not too late for that...Okay...off to read some more...take care all. Peace.

NOLA, sending all good wishes that you dodge the cyclone, and have no major damage from it. thanks for checking in to let us know all is OK so far. Hope to hear again soon that it is passed you by.
Mama, I do hope the cat scan can heklp solve the mystery of your 'not sounding good' to the doc, and you are soon up and about. I agree with you, I too need to get out somewhere other than the doc. I have been wanting to visit my sister in Ellijay Ga, perhaps Tanya and I can plan a trip by middle of next month. A few routine scheduled doc appointments the first week, reason could not go earlier. Spring in the GA foothills of the Appalachian Mountains would be very nice. Her home is like a tree house, set on the edge of a valley, house is 3 stories, and view from the third story, which has a huge room with windows all across the back, is fantastic. Nice deck from that level, a covered deck from main level and a new huge patio off the basement level to catch the sun. All the decks and patios needed because she has NO back yard, it is on a steep grade, and the patio gives her a place for growing plants and flowers, in containers.
BRONI, I too am interested in the why behind your 9 month travel around Australia, if you are free to share. It sounds like a great opportunity, hope you enjoy it. You will be taking your camper or whatever it is called?
Heidi, I agree, helping others is important, and a good change for Gil, but was just thinking that charity should begin at home. You deserve some help, with all you do around the farm.
Julie, hurting is a constant with me, just a matter of how much. Playing scrabble is a great distraction, one of the ways I handle the aches and pains. Mary and I sat and talked about that at the end of the game. Judy left to WALK to church at 5 pm, for Ash Wednesday services. It was bitterly cold, I wished I could have driven her, but at the time just not able to walk to the car. She did say she could get a ride back home, I hope that happened.
I slept again last night, almost around the clock. To bed at midnight, then not up till after 11. Takes a hunk out of your day when you sleep that much and wake still sleepy, but I did wake without pain, so that was good. Now to get out of this chair and do a bit of cooking, need something for dinner with extras to freeze for next week. I have this turkey Italian sweet sausage I use in a casserole, with onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, green beans and cheese. Just thinking of it is making my mouth water. Would love it for lunch, but the sausage is frozen, so will be for dinner.
I do not think today's temps will go above freezing, and the wind is still blowing strongly, bummer, but it begins to warm slowly come the weekend. Looking forward to being able to get outside once again. the wind yesterday when I was out just long enough to buy some fruit from the veggie man was cutting, it went through all my layers.
Hugs to each of you, with extras.

I cannot imagine the cold you are having. The coldest I have been in was -6*c in Prague.
Big day as I should have the cast removed today. I am looking forward to life getting back to normal and being able to drive the car again. I have been driving around near home but corners were hard to I did not get out where there was much traffic.

I just got back in after tagging 2 more calves born today with the temperature at 10˚F / -12˚C!!!
Both are doing well.
A 3rd calf born today didn't make it. Mama went far from the warm barn and gave birth in a snow drift. After removing the dead one from the pasture, I fed hay to the cows. I then re-plowed our driveway, then plowed the driveway across the street (between 2-4 feet deep and 1/2 mile long!!!!) for a neighbor who asked me to. Then I re-plowed the driveway to Gil's lab that had 4 ft deep drifts on it. I am tired. I told him that it was his job to plow the driveway to his office. He needs the practice. I don't.

Gil HAS been helping considerably around here. He's in charge of feeding grain to the cows every day (~200 pounds daily) and keeping the water tanks full and open for the cattle and horses. That's cold, hard work. I feel like he's pulling his weight right now. No complaints.
