Greetings friends.
Thanks for the good wishes Julie. I am ready for inspection and am sure it will go well. They are looking for safety and health problems, at it's worse my house is not unhealthy hehehe. I had a good cleaning day here today, but it has taken it's tole on old bones. I got out my upright vacuum, it is heavy and has a rotating brush. It really cleans, I just did the visible carpet and got two double handfuls of yuck. The cleaning last vacuumed just a week ago. I shall request that in the future she use my machine.
Scrabble today, and Mary was high on something. she could not concentrate on keeping score, just not the usual behavior of Mary. She was telling us about her doctor appointment, and a new medication. I wondered if it could cause this, when she mentioned she had an injection to her knee. CORTISONE, yep a cortisone high. she sure was funny today!
HEIDI, I for my first 7 letter word today, and a double word too, a really high scoring word. Mary, high or not, can still make consistently higher scores than me, bested me by 7 points. I kept kept getting nothing but vowels that game, think I had only 5 constants whole game. Second game, I had only 3 vowels the entire game!
Mary told everyone she thought Dave was sweet on me. she was downstairs Wednesday when Dave was walking out of Commons, headed to the elevator with his lunch, I was going into Commons. according to Mary 'the world changed. When he saw you, Dave's face lit up, a big smile and his eyes sparkled' as he said hello and we started a long conversation in the busy lobby. Mary said 'Dave never talks to me, and I was right there' All the scrabble ladies teased me today, you would think they were silly 5th graders.
I did read, must return later to make comments. It is time for dinner, I need to cook.
Tomorrow is another busy day. I hope to go on an EP sponsored shopping trip, by bus, to a thrift store and out to lunch. Inspection will happen whether I am here or not.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

Nola, sorry about the computer issues. But what is worse is the broken window when you were leaving work! Is it worth filing a police report? I hope you can find someone to help out.

Good afternoon from here to there. I will attempt to tell you what I tried yesterday...not that I was saying much, but as we all know that when we have typed our post and then lose them, it's, as Julie has said, frustrating and aggravating to no end.
I have no words....I have wiped out part of another long post trying to tell of my experience of yesterday... I now believe I was not meant to talk about that post...so I won't!
Oh, I'm glad to see the return of better, or at least improving health for most of us and good times being enjoyed by others. Nola, so sorry to hear about the car window and ongoing computer problems...I do hope all will get sorted sooner rather than later. Sending good wishes for your F.I.L..you have had enough on your plate so soon after getting back home. Julie, one day we're going to see strange stuff on your post and know that you have finally fallen asleep and crashed to the keyboard...Lol. Get some good bed rest and kudos on your consistent check-ins...as June said...you just get it done. June, happy that you had time with Laura again...it does get harder as they grow to lose that special relationship we had enjoyed, but we know that we must slowly change so that they get to be the adults they are meant to be. This is one of the reasons why memories are so valuable...they help us in recalling good times that are now gone. Tricia, I do hope you got to enjoy your outing today even though there were not five folks as stated. It is disappointing to look forward to something and it's beyond your control if it takes place or not. Lastly, Heidi, Glad you, in particular, are on the mend since you seem to have really gotten hit with multiple ailments that just took over...Sending you extra healing powers to replace those antibiotics that don't help much...ours are full of love so we hope they do more good. Take care all...I'll be around even if not posting as much..Peace.

Mama, I did get my outing, even though the bus trip was cancelled. I decided I would take myself to lunch. I started asking any resident I saw if they wanted to join me. I found 2 who did not have plans and had funds hehehe, but lunch was so inexpensive and the waitress brought one check, not separate, I just paid lunch for us. a lovely Oriental restaurant, that does NOT add sugar to their dishes to appeal to American tastes. Quality foods used in the preparation, service was slow and they kept getting things confused, and I learned to never again sit at a table, as opposed to a booth, the chair was torture for my back
That leads to a question. If your wait staff makes mistakes in your order, multiple mistakes, but then takes them back to correct the mistakes, do they deserve a larger tip or a lesser tip. I guess I am asking the wrong audience as Aussies do not tip, right? We ordered steamed rice, not fried rice, got fried. The wrong soup was brought to Marsha, but she was served the correct one when we complained. Seems there was something else that has escaped my memory at the moment. I did leave a decent tip, but not as much as I have left previously.
OK, I have finished my breakfast, I want to go water those plants that missed the rain, and check on everything else, see if anything is particularly thirsty, before it gets hot today.
Hugs to each of you, with extras.

We do tip in Australia but not the same as in US. Our service staff do get a reasonable wage. If I go and have some lunch in a café I might throw some loose change in a jar near the till. If we go to a top restaurant and the service and the meal are good we probably add 10% tip.
However if they cannot bring the correct meal in the first place they do not deserve much of a tip.

A nice sunny day so we went for a drive and had lunch at the café at a large nursery. I bought some pansies to put out near the letter box. I gave the weeds that are there a water so that I can dig them out tomorrow! The soil was a bit dry.
I am walking better but still with the stick. I have bought a back brace and wearing that while I am poking around the garden etc. It will take a bit of getting used to wearing it. Just want it to stop me from twisting my back again.

Julie, do they have an age limit for you to be able to donate blood and platelets? It is not something I have done.
Heidi, hope that you can get that ear fixed properly. Even if you are tough you have enough health problems without that as well.

June, thanks so much for the infro on tipping. Do customs differ area to area there? I had visitors from Oz, and they thought tipping was so strange, said they did not tip. That is where I got the idea Aussies did not tip.
As I said, our meal was very inexpensive, only $23 for the three of us. Dinner prices would have been 50% more than that and up, depending on what was ordered. We did not have any drinks, even coffee or tea, we are all water drinkers, for health, not for expense. I think they are always so very busy because their prices are lower for lunch than many restaurants in the area. I usually tip 20%, I know what wait staff makes, I once worked in a neighborhood cafe, as hostess/part time cashier and had nieces nephews who preferred working wait staff when in school, instead of flipping burgers. One nephew worked in a very famous restaurant in New Orleans where there was great Jazz music every night. Some nights he made very good money in tips. I setteled for about 15 percent with a $3 tip.
I noticed on the menu, an automatic tip of 18% is added if more than 5 at a table. Took a hint from that and left just a bit less.
There was so much food, I brought home half my shrimp and broccoli main dish for my supper that night. So did both my friends.
posting fore I loose this, more later.

Mamacita, did you loose your two posts when trying to send them? I sent and they did not post, but were lost to me I back a while ago, when they were longer than usual. They would not go through. I tried several times, would have lost mine if I had not saved the post before sending. I later was able to send PART of the long post.
Here is how I keep a copy of my post until I am sure it went through. I do this almost every time I post, it is automatic now and takes only 5 seconds. It sounds more complicated than it is. Once you do it a couple of times, it becomes second nature.
This works on PC computers using a windows platform:
Type in the post as usual. Then you need to highlight the entire post. To do that, move the cursor with your mouse to the bottom right corner. Hold down the left mouse button, the one you use for most everything, move mouse to right edge so entire sentence turns color, then without lifting finger from mouse, move the cursor up to top of your post. If you get to the top left corner of the box where we see the message, the text will start to scroll, just hold the mouse there till you get to top of the post, THEN lift finger from the left mouse button.
The entire post should be highlighted. Now, type at the same time, holding both keys down, control and C keys. Control is down left corner of keyboard, has Ctrl printed on it. this saves your post to a hidden clip board, it is there, you cannot see it. Click outside the type area, the highlight goes away, send post as usual.
If you loose your post, you can move it back from the hidden clip board. In the now blank typing area, put cursor to top left corner as if you were going to type. Hold down both the control (still in bottom left corner of keyboard) and the V key at same time. that pastes whatever is in your clipboard to the comments screen. If you did the 'cut' part correctly, then the computer will 'paste' it into place. If you Google How do I cut and paste? you might get a tutorial, that shows you.
This is how I was always able to finish a too long post when only part of the post went through. Just re-pasted the whole thing, then erased the part that DID go through, and sent the second half hehehe.
If I could sit down beside you for 5 minuets, could show you just how to do this.

I only tip if the service deserves it. And if the service is exceptional, I tip extravagantly. I would complain to the management if they added an automatic tip. That's insisting that I pay part of their salary, instead of rewarding the wait staff for good service. I consider it a crime that restaurants aren't required to pay their staff at least minimum wage.

Just a quick hello to everyone before heading to bed.
June, I am not aware of any upper age limit for donating blood - just passing the required 'physical' - iron level, temperature, pulse, blood pressure & correct answers on 30 or 40 question survey. I'm glad walking is a bit easier. Do take care!
I'll be up early again tomorrow - this time to have a filling replaced. It's less than 2 years old, so I've been told there won't be a charge, or at least minimal.
Heidi, I hope your ear has shown continued improvement while on the Cipro. Don't work too long each day on the mowing, though I suspect you'd like to get it done.
MizT, I hope the weather is staying mild enough to keep the aches away!
May you all have a wonderful day/evening/night and may all experience good or at least improving health! Sending healing energy,

Big day at the bowling club today and they are predicting rain. Non about here at the moment. I am not bowling (still protecting my back) but I have made cakes for the trading table. We also have to pick up Belinda's dog from her this morning as Laura wants to take the dog to cubs tonight as it is pets night. (Belinda happens to be taking some students North today to play softball against other schools so will be within a few kilometres of here). Then tonight we have to take the dog to Laura and then wait till cubs finish.

Hi Everyone,
Just dropping in to try to see if I can follow Tricia's lesson of the day. To answer your question about when the post were lost, yes, it was while getting ready to send them. I thought about you when they disappeared and how you always saved the post to avoid the loss...so now I will try my hand at this lesson.
Has anyone here read The Martian? What did you think about it if you have? I understand it's a good read, but I'm not much for sci-fi so wonder about it. I have so many to read I wonder if I'll ever run out...so I will go back and read some more when finished here. Take care all. Peace.

, Everyone! I hope all are well or improving!
It was good get the filling done this morning and have the rest of the day for other things. We have been going to the same dentist for at least 30 years. He is very gentle. Everyone in the office knows us. (I got hugs from at least 3 before I left.) He didn't offer anything for pain, but got right to work. Usually I handle it very well, but today, when he was working along the gum line, it became pretty uncomfortable. When his hands, tools, and the suction are in your mouth, how could I let him know? Luckily, waving my hand got his attention. Fortunately, he was almost finished.
Heidi, they finished your tractor quickly! I'm sure it's a relief to have it back and running! How is your ear? Is the ENT appointment this week?
June, I'm glad you didn't need to go to get Belinda's dog and she could just drop it off. How did things go at bowling? I can certainly appreciate your taking some time off from it! I bet your cakes at the trading table were popular! Was there a luncheon today, or just the trading table after bowls?
By the way, June, thanks for saying I have quite a way to go until I reach 81. Relatively speaking, I guess it's quite a way to go, but I admit to being retired.
Mama, I'm so sorry you lost more posts today. Hopefully, that will soon be a thing of the past. (I also try to remember to save before posting, but unfortunately forget sometimes.)

We have had a resident snake in my garden that I have seen 3 times now around the same place. Brown snakes seem to have so many colours that we are unsure if it is a brown or a green harmless.
Hate to kill a harmless snake but if we get the opportunity I think it will have to go, just to be on the safe side. That makes about 75 in the 20yrs we have been here.

a cool drizzly day. I did not do much. The dog has gone home. I did not need to have a small dog coming on to heat. Belinda forgot to tell me!
I cam close to having a car accident today. A van pulled out of a side street right in front of me. He had a very horrified look on his face as he saw me about to hit him. Fortunately my reaction and my brakes both worked well. Stopped a couple of inches short of colliding with him. Belinda was behind me (I had just given her the dog) and she was sure I would hit him. He was then in front of her and turned off the main road without giving a signal. Not good driving at peak hour on wet main roads.

HI everyone, it seems I have not been online here in a couple of days. Just a bit busy doing nothing hehehe
Last night residents of EP were invited to dress rehearsal of 'The Music Man', next door at the theater. It was so good, so funny, I enjoyed all of it. By time of intermission, I was ready and then some to stand. Worked out well, I was fidgeting in my chair, beginning tohave back pains from not moving, intermission came and it was just time for meds again. The second half was more comfortable
My BIL and his partner came over today, had not seen them in a long while. they were just a few blocks away at the VA for a doctors appointment, and both were well enough to drop by to see me. They are looking good for old folks hehehe. It was good to see them again.
Tanya's father's ashes were brought back for burial today. she decided just yesterday she did not want me to go with her. she was afraid she would not make it out there, I helped her find directions, and she made it. she phoned me just as Rodger was leaving, I tried calling her back just now, but no answer. I sure hope she is OK now. she has not been doing well this week, anticipation of today I think.
No activities here today, but we are having a heat wave. already today, at 11 am, heat index if 101. My AC is not keeping apartment as cool as I would like, bummer. I see an entire sunny, high temp, high humidity week ahead. I am not ready for these temps, should not be this hot in June.
June, I am thankful for your good reaction time and good brakes. Two inches to spare is very scary, but a case where 2 inches is as good as a mile, in the outcome, but not for the fright factor.
Nola, like you, I would off the snake, if there was a chance it was poisonous. (that was a hard word to get spelled correctly hehe). I have an unreasonable fear of snakes, and am glad I do not live where they are accustomed to making their homes. I know so many Australian animals are protected, I take it brown snakes are not? Seeing 75 snakes in 20 years is far to many for me. You are bery brave to live with them.
Heidi, you had thunder? Did you have rain too? If so, send some on down, it is too sunny, hot and dry.
time to get something done today. I was working nicely when I got the call that Roger was dropping by. Not to get back to it. I need to make some soup. And make slaw, another veg. I have meat for my plan ahead meals, but completely out of veg. I have counted tomatoes and salad as my beg for the last few days, so I am cooking zucchini with onions, and broccoli. Hugs to each of you.

NO accident is always a good thing, June. Congrats on having good brakes and good reflexes! You always have to expect that every other driver out there is a blithering moron, and they usually are. They need to add a common sense test to get driver's licenses. Driving is a privelege, not a right, and should be restricted to those who can handle it responsibly. For those who can't, there is mass transit and bicycles.
