I have discovered that my new health insurance is crap. It doesn't cover what they told me it does. I will probably cancel it.

Heidi - would the insurance company have recorded your call when you changed your health cover? Worth checking as you may have some bargaining power against them.
Good top Suzy - you have to experience bad memories so the good ones make you stronger.

Morning all! That flu knocked me worse than I expected. I am still coughing and spluttering but a whole lot better than I was.
In the middle of it all Col and I celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We had intended to go away for a few nights but I just couldn't do it. We compromised by going out to lunch by the bay, having a lovely fish meal and a champagne toast.

Heidi, so sorry to hear about you new health insurance. I am still gobsmacked by the minefield that is health insurance over there. In the meantime you have to suffer the back pain while you sort it out. So very unfair.

Why did I do it? My new kitchen is finished and up and running, so is my ensuite bathroom. Loving them.
Now they have started on my main bathroom. The disruption is horrendous -and, they found live termites. So I have the pest people in as well. Meanwhile $4000 later......

CynB - termites are horrible. We have had the little b****rds for a couple of years and the damage has been huge. Went into a bedroom that is not being used and the floorboards are falling away.Termite control looks like they are no longer active but we have to wait until around Nov-Dec when the temperature is right (same ground/outside) and they are active again. Our lousy neighbours knew about the nest for a long time and didn't do anything about it - unfortunately they were not invaded. We have monitoring of the traps every six weeks so far so good.

HI, Everyone!
I don't see my post from yesterday. I guess I typed it, but forgot to submit it.
I remember being so upset that Heidi's insurance company either had an employee who really didn't know what was covered - OR - someone deliberately deceived Heidi. Either way, it's doesn't seem to be a very reputable company. I'm so sorry, Heidi. How awful that you will need to wait for the epidural!
I also remember commenting to DOrA about her good follow-up appointment with the doctor. Please ease back into your regular activities. (Seems to me you commenting on needing to get outside to whipper-snipper, DOrA.)

Suzy, what a great TOPP, a very good comparison. I hope your niece had a wonderful 6 weeks in Europe. It's nice she'll be able to stay with family much of the time.
Suzy, you are so thoughtful. Yes, indeed, I hope DOrA had a cell phone handy while outside working! I hadn't even thought of that.
Heidi, I'm so sorry the new insurance company isn't working out! Do you have any legal recourse because they misrepresented what the coverage would be? Midge has a very good point.
Cyn, that flu really hit you hard. I'm glad you're beginning to feel better and could at least go out for lunch with Col!
Oh my, Cyn! Termites! Yikes! But, in the long run it's probably better that they were found and you can treat for them. Home repair and improvement projects can be eye-opening (and wallet-opening).
Midge, what awful neighbors you have if they new about the termite nest and said nothing. Hoping for Karma for them.
MIzT, I hope all's well and you are getting better sleep and less pain! Take care!
I need to get some more practicing in yet tonight, so I'm on my way to spend some time with my cello. I'll be attending a 5-day 'music camp' in July and have five books of music that I'm trying to review. Though it was all memorized when I was studying the pieces, it hasn't 'stuck'. Very frustrating.
Sending lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}},
, healing energy, positive thoughts, and prayers for everyone.

Shhh, I shouldn’t be telling you this somewhere where anyone can read it, but it’s driving me nuts and I need to vent. For a long time now our back door hasn’t closed properly. We haven’t worried about it because we had big dogs. Had being the operative word there. When don died my brother said he was going to get my niece’s boyfriend, a carpenter, to fix it for me, but he forgot. Well now my front door won’t close. We’ve been holding it closed with a chair, but now we have a lot of strong wind. We added weight to the chair, still opened, I put my fireproof box there, still opening. No point putting the heater on as the heat will just go out the door. It is working now though, remember I said it wasn’t. It’s just useless with wind coming in the door.

Cyn, I remember houses in SoCal being bagged for pest/termite control. I’m not sure what it’s actually called, but the entire house is covered in some kind of plastic or something, like a house tent. Maybe that’s what it was called, tented. I’d never seen anything like it. People have to move out for a few days while it’s happening. It was weird to me.

I just went to the BOM site to see how big the winds are, 65 kph, and discovered why Gizmo won’t stand in the kitchen to eat his dinner. I thought he might be sick, but apparently a feels like temp of 2.4C/36F, is a bit too cold for him.

''Tented'' is the term I'm familiar with. In Hawaii there is a major problem with termites. Especially in older neighborhoods, houses tented for fumigation, are a common sight.

Done with the whipper snipper, for now. About 15 hours over a three day period and what needed attention has been done. One half mile, about .8 km of fence line. About a 2 ft wide swath under the length. When the rest is mowed, the result looks 'finished'. Some parts were thick with grass. Some parts had new volunteer trees, up to a meter tall. One area had a lot of ferns, standing over 5 ft tall. I'm contemplating 'bush-hogging' the neighbors side to try to maintain control of the situation. The neighbor is absentee and visits, only occasionally, on weekends to camp out with family. He doesn't really have time or equipment to take care of 'his side'. Nice fellow, with a nice family, though.

Debbie's oldest son approached me last month with a major favor to ask. He lives (rents a trailer) in a horrible neighborhood and is being evicted by the owner who has lost his own home and wants to move into the trailer. There is a nice brick house for sale in a nice part of Magnolia, owned by a nice cousin of Debbie's (their mother's were twin sisters) and it came up for sale. Debbie's son desperately wanted to buy it, but could get nobody to finance it for him. He's an honest man with a steady income... but he has no collateral. So he asked me if I could buy the place and sell it to him on a rent-to-buy deal. I checked out the place and it's worth considerably more than the asking price. We close on it next Wednesday.

Greetings friends, checking in before bedtime to say 'Here I is.'
I did get the rest of that island in the parking lot weeded. We did get that second rain, and I filled the second 55 gal trash bin. Left it beside the dumpster for maintenance man to empty, no way I could lift it up that high. I found 3 of the shorter Lantana were dead, root system gone. Our director happened by on his way in to work, and I talked to him about that, and the disease that is rampant in the remaining Lantana. Been fighting that for last 2 summers. He asked if I thought they all needed taking out. Yes they do, because that disease seems to be a virus, that can be air borne and spread. Nothing I have tried has helped to eliminate it. He said he would contact the lawn care people about taking them out. I have no idea what will go in to replace them, but I hope it is low and does not over grow the space.
Madge, I have tried advertising for garden help. It has not worked out. One of the problems is I cannot say today that I will meet a helper tomorrow at 8 am. I have NO idea how I will feel then, if I will be able to get outside at all. Others tell me, yes I can help, but you cannot count on me. Really?
Today I missed the June birthday party here. I was at 2 pm, and at 1:30, for unknown reasons, my pain level shot up big time. It was past time for meds, maybe that caused it. took meds, went to lie down for 'just a few minuets' and woke an hour and half later, party was over or near over then. Now, since I missed my own birthday party, does that mean I did not get older this year?
Heidi, does Kentucky have an insurance commission like Alabama does/did? They investigate such 'bait and switch' tactics here, or they did a few years ago. So sorry you have to wait once again, bummer. I know a bit about how that feels. Huge gentle hugs to you, friend.
OH SUZY, having a door that will not stay closed in the cold wind if terrible. ASK for help!! Ask that relative who forgot. they do not know what is happening if you do not speak up. The worse they can do is say no.
Sitting here wondering why I was not getting sleepy. Surely my afternoon nap was not at fault. UH, TRICIA, your sleeping pill works a LOT better if you swallow the dern thing. Went to the kitchen for a glass of water and found it still in the medicine cup on the bench. Silly silly girl. Properly swallowed now.
Found a foam wedge pillow today at the table sale residents had. I must wash the covering, but the price was right. Might use it without a cover tonight, put my pillow on top. sleeping flat is becoming more of a problem.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

DorA, wow that is a lot of snipping! I’m happy to read it made you feel better rather than worse. I have a generous neighbour like you. He is not only taking care of my yard, but helping me get rid of stuff hubby was gonna do something with. He even repaired the steps to the pantec. I can say that the generosity is much appreciated. At least by me. I’m sure your neighbour would feel the same.
MizT, I was pleased to read the director offered to get someone to remove the lantana. He is recognising that the garden is the facilities responsibility too!
I took your advice and sent a message to my bro and niece about the doors. We’ll see what happens. I’m a bit nervous about going out for too long with the house unlocked. I mean the back has been unlocked for a long time, but the front is different.

Update. My niece has been sick and forgot to ask her partner. They’ll be over on Monday afternoon to help me. It was the right thing to do to remind her, even though I feel slack. That’s an old Aussie saying, I bet even young Aussies would laugh at that.

I found this piece of trivia, interesting.
What's in a name? Where do they come from?
TIM-TAMS
Australia’s favourite bikkie was named by Ross Arnott after a winning racehorse of the same name, which he saw at the Kentucky Derby in 1958.

Sizy, as so often happens here, there is a space between the 2 L's in the word really in the address above. I am so glad you called to ask for help. things so often get forgotten, people have busy lives. I hope the doors are soon repaired.
I watered all the plants outside this morning. Tonight, thunder. No rain yet, it is just maybe 2 blocks south of us. forecast is for rain tomorrow though. Added a bit of liquid fertilizer to the water today, hope to get more flowers soon.
I did get to sleep soon after taking my pills last night, slept good. Was up and outside by 8 am, before sun got on the garden area. The temps are not so bad, but humidity is terrible, it is always oppressive when the dew point gets above 70. Twas 75 this morning.
Remember me saying a yellow rose bush had been attacked with a whipper snipper. Taken down to a nub. Well, it now has 3 new canes coming up about a foot ; aprox 1/3 meter, and there is a bud on each. that is what good roots will do for you!
Time for my meds and warm milk. I shall remember to swallow the pills tonight
Hugs to each of you with extras.

Midge, we knew termites had been in the house but last time 8-9 years ago they were gone. Our pest control friend wanted then to put in the control barrier, around the house, for $2500. We weren't in a financial position to do it then, convinced ourselves they were gone, but now find we have had a new infestation.

I lost a post. I did go to DorA’s link. I liked the Woolworths story. I remember going to the one in the states and being surprised by how different they were. At the time I didn’t know they were separate organisations. Our Woolworths are like Lucky or Albertsons.
Alie is home. The wind has died down so the stuff I have stacked in front of the door is now working to keep it closed. It’s kind of a mini alarm system because the chair makes a racket when it scrapes against the tile. Our other alarm is, of course, Gizmo

Risky but not Risqué
A wealthy man decided that he wanted to throw a party and invited all of his buddies and neighbors. He also invited Leroy, the only Redneck in the neighborhood.
He held the party around the pool in the backyard of his mansion. Leroy was having a good time drinking, dancing, eating shrimp, oysters and BBQ and flirting with all the women.
At the height of the party, the host said, 'I have a 10 foot man-eating gator in my pool and I'll give a million dollars to anyone who has the nerve to jump in.'
The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a loud splash.
Everyone turned around and saw Leroy in the pool! Leroy was fighting the gator and kicking its ass! Leroy was jabbing it in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, head butts and choke holds, biting the gator on the tail and flipping it through the air like some kind of Judo Instructor.
The water was churning and splashing everywhere. Both Leroy and the gator were screaming and raising hell. Finally Leroy strangled the gator and let it float to the top like a dime store goldfish. Leroy then slowly climbed out of the pool.
Everybody was just staring at him in disbelief.
Finally the host says, 'Well, Leroy, I reckon I owe you a million dollars.
''No, that's okay. I don't want it,' said Leroy.
The rich man said, 'Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about half a million bucks then?'
No thanks, I don't want it,' answered Leroy.
The host said, 'Come on, I insist on giving you something! That was amazing!
How about a new Porsche and a Rolex and some stock options?'
Again Leroy said no.
Confused, the rich man asked, 'Well, Leroy, then what do you want?'
Leroy said, 'I want the name of the Sumbich who pushed me in the pool!'
