Welcome friends!

                          Make yourself at home.

Taken on Memorial Day 2010. I've often admired this flag as she waves on State Route 67. Thank you to the property owner for sharing her with us for all these years.

Thank you for the Birthday Wishes last week. I had dinner with Mom that evening. She then flew up to Portland, OR for a Class Reunion (68th) and flew back for the wedding on Saturday of her only grand-nephew (my cousin’s son – 41, first marriage). Mom (85) refused to take a nap after getting up at 3 am for the flight back and insisted on driving (through Los Angeles to Orange County) for the wedding – she still drives fast. By the time we got to there we were not speaking & the drive back was even worse – getting home around midnight. The wedding & reception was wonderful (so was the beach party the night before, which Mom had missed). Dad always said the reason we fight, was because we are so much alike – both strong willed women. But, we will always love each other. I left Tuesday, had a meeting in No. Calif. Wednesday afternoon, and decided to camp at Burney Falls State Park – making my dog happy, before returning home. The back is still bothering me – but no violent pains – more of the gnawing variety and when standing up after sitting too long (so there were a lot of stops on the way down and on the way home). Thanks for the good wishes – I’m safe if not sound.

Howdy, Shelley! Thanks for stopping by my page! Your girls look about as spoiled as mine are. And yes, I love the Harry Potter series and have read the entire series twice now since July. Lately I've been floating around some of the discussion boards reading up on theories so maybe I'll get even more out of my next read! Hope you enjoy the last 2 when you get to them. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Shelly. I had meant to stop in a while back but I got side-tracked somehow. I was sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing, and I hope things are a little less stressful now. Hope you and yours are coping and staying positive.

Shelley, here I am for my first visit, to thank you for your kind thoughts about my mother, only to learn you've recently lost your grandmother. I'm so sorry. I'm feeling pretty weepy so won't stay here long. I had a good visit with my mom yesterday, then sobbed during the hour-long drive home. I'll go back again today. These are dark, rotten days so knowing that others care truly does a person's heart good. Thanks for being in my corner. Bless you.

Howdy, Shelley! Yes! You must read Books 6 & 7 of Harry Potter! And yes, I have read them all twice since July. And everytime I find something else in them that I missed the time before!
I was only in California for a week visiting my sister, but we had a lot of fun. Monterey is absolutely beautiful! We also went to San Francisco, which could easily be a week-long trip by itself. California was okay, definitely different from Texas. But the traffic was way too crazy for me, and I really missed all the friendly people we have at home. But I guess "seeing the world" is about seeing all sorts of different things, not just the same old experience at a different longitude and latitude! Hope you get a chance to head out there some day!

Hi Shelley, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. My mind's been whirling--Mom continues to amaze with her determination to get well, despite some lousy setbacks at the hospital. In moving her from floor to floor, they've somehow stopped her physical and speech therapy. I'm returning tomorrow with my list of questions and will be ready to raise hell. Meanwhile, the poor thing only weighs 89 pounds, so I suspect there's more going on medically than just a stroke. But we remain upbeat and cheery for our visits, and I keep my distance from my older siblings who, in the face of adversity, seem curiously busy elsewhere. Thank goodness for the kindess of people like you to buoy me up and keep my motor humming. You're a gem and a half!

Shelley, just dropping by with big canine kisses for Sky and Kala. What lovely, faithful friends they must be. A heartfelt thank you for your continued kind words; last night's visit with mom was the toughest yet--she recognized us and stroked my hand, but I could sense her frustration at not being able to do more than that. Catheter, oxygen--there are tubes everywhere. The next 24 hours will tell whether she pulls out of her current state; if not, we simply wait and see how long she'll carry on as she is. A wretched thing, this, and my grip on my emotions is waning. Still, in all, I'm so lucky to have her for my mom and am grateful for whatever time God gives us with her. I'm grateful, too, for caring people like you--you've no idea how a few words can sustain me at a time like this. Bless you and yours.

Thanks, Shelley, for the visit, the flowers and the kind thoughts. These are tough days indeed, and I seem to be wandering around, looking for mom everywhere. Around the middle of my page six, I've included an abbreviated version of the eulogy I wrote for her vigil service, if you're interested in getting acquainted with mom a little. It was so nice you took time to keep us in your thoughts, and it's friendly, caring people like you who've been mountains of support through this. I'm so grateful, and am sending a warm hug your way.

Make yourself at home, pull up a chair and fix yourself a plate. If dessert is what you have in mind I just happen to have a strawberry rhubarb pie and vanilla ice cream to satisfy that desire.

Gday Shelley, just passing, thought I'd drop in! I have been in a similar situation as you when you had the hit and run. It makes my blood boil when I hear about this sort of thing. In my case, it was an act of vandalism! Some gutless wonder apparently got their rocks off by smashing random mirrors! I was lucky enough that the dear old gent that lived across the road at the time, knew someone that knew someone so it was able to be fixed in a day, very cheaply. But that's not the point!
Anyhoo, out with the bad thoughts and in with the good. Here is a bunch of roses from my page. They are looking particularly spectacular at the mo and the scent is heavenly.
Have a great day,
Gail
