I wondered what would turn me from a lurker to an author. It was your photos, Eve.
First connection - I was raised in Montrose.
Second connection - My parents worked on Rose Parade floats, though for the Square Dance group.
Third connection - They spent 6 summers in Kenya working on Methodist Church projects and enjoying the people, animals and countryside. Your photos remind me of theirs.

Eve - I love Laugh-In, I use to have a pair of jammies that said 'Sock It To Me' on them. I have to admit I don't remember much of Victor Borge's stuff, I was looking through the Dean Martin youtubes and found it. I also went through some of the Carol Burnett stuff and found the skit with Tim Conway and his Elephant story, sat her and laughed my butt off! check it out.

Hi Eve, I just got back from a fabulous week and a half in Oregon. I think I posted a few pictures from there on my page. We go to Cannon Beach every summer. your safari pictures are awesome. what a trip that must have been. thanks for the yummy pie and visit me anytime! I have some bluebonnets for you and some Blue Bell Ice Cream any flavor. I feel disloyal in saying that Tillamook Vanilla Ice cream truly rivals the blue bell though. Yummy.

Eve, We only had vanilla(5 stars), mint choc. chip (3 stars) and mud slide (4 1/2 stars). I wish we had tried more flavors like the ones you suggested but one can only gain so many pounds in one vacation. oh but we also had plenty of Tillamook Cheese too and of course lots of Oregon wine.

Hi, Eve! Thanks for the 'heads up'. I haven't had time to watch TV lately, but I have been keeping up on the China fiasco. So far, all seafood has to be labeled regarding its origin. I know that there is pressure from the conglomerates to remove this requirement. In the meantime, I try to buy only local seafood which, fortunately, is pretty easy for me since I live on the coast. I hadn't heard about the chickens, but I only buy local free-range poultry. I haven't bought - knowingly - ANYthing from China (food or otherwise) for the past couple of years. And, boy, is that difficult! I don't know what I'm going to do when I need to buy a new pair of tennis shoes!

Hi Eve: Thanks for putting on the Corries singing 'Flower of Scotland'. I saw them live in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh when I lived there in the '70's, and thought they were terrific.

Hi Eve. Thanks for stopping by my place. I enjoyed your YouTube - I love that kind of music.

I had so much fun looking at your Kenya pictures. So many familiar animals!! Isn't Africa amazing! I noticed that the Maasai in your pictures were dressed in oranges and reds. The ones we encountered were mostly in blue and red.

We were in Tanzania. We drove from Arusha to Tarangire, then on to the Ngorongoro Crater via Lake Manyara. Next we drove into the Serengeti where we spent about a week. The roads were bumpy, slow, and dusty - but I wouldn't exchange the experience for anything. We then flew back to Arusha on a small plane, where we caught our long, endless flight home.

Scary to hear you were talking about me at your SA meeting. Nothing bad I hope! No wonder I couldn't sleep last night! As to music, very little musical styles that I don't like. 'Music makes the world go 'round.''

The Maasai in Tanzania had shaved heads as well. We enjoyed our encounter with them. I agree that they are friendly and proud. We, too, went into one of their homes. I'll never take the ease of my life for granted.

We deliberately chose to drive in and fly out. The drive was bumpy, uncomfortable, dusty, and difficult - but was so much part of the experience. I felt like an adventurer and completely stopped caring about make-up, hair, etc. I loved it!! (and I can be pretty prissy...)

We usually went on two 'game drives' a day and spent the evenings in pleasant activities with our travel mates. Two of our accommodations were tented, the others were lodges. The tented camp in Tarangire was a bit primative, but still was ensuite and comfortable. The other, Kirawira, was very sumptuous. My husband and I have traveled a lot, and Kirawira is one of our favorite places in the world. The 'tents' have hardwood floors, are beautifully furnished in the Edwardian style, and have a well appointed bathroom.

Our flights to/from Africa were grueling, as it appears that yours were. We flew from San Francisco to New York, on to Amsterdam, where we spent the night - then on to Arusha the next day. Coming home, we reversed the route, but didn't stop the night in Amsterdam, much to our dismay. We were exhausted when we got home!!!

My husband and I have the goal of visiting all 7 continents, which I think we'll manage, although I doubt that we'll ever match your mom's 150 countries.

Eve - I enjoyed your youtube. My dad is from Scotland and was a piper for many years before he came to the states. I have his pipes, the original ebony and ivory ones, along with a lot of his music. I have been to Scotland twice and would go back in a heartbeat, I still have a lot of family there.

Eve, What an enjoyable experience. The harmony was wonderful. Have you ever heard of Rufus Harley? He was a local A.A. musician who played jazz on the pipes, but performed world wide. He was very original, and would often speak about the history of piping. He could often be seen wearing his kilts, and it soon became his musical signature. The photo is stunning...I'd have enjoyed seeing it lighted.

OK...divorce must be pending...H threw out all our old tapes before the last move because 'we' only listened to CD's, and, yes, I only had tapes of the Corries (which shows how old they were!)....I'm really enjoying your You Tubes, Eve, and might have to try Amazon for the CD's!

Hey Eve, I can never listen to Loch Lomond without getting teary. Like many beautiful Scottish songs it's so sad. We walked the West Highland Way in 1983 and had a fabulous time. Many great memories

Eve, you have had some nice travels as evidenced by your pictures. Yes, Texas is so very humid and hot. yuck. But I remain a loyal Texan, nevertheless. Thank you Eve, I really loved your comment about the Science forum. I kind of felt like you came to my defense. It gave me my first chuckle of the day.
I was going way overboard waiting for someone to in and chat. And do have a tendency to get on subject and not get off--according to my friend Ian from Thialand, it is my stubborn female way.
Since I was unable to join in the TV reminincing but wanted to talk, I went overboard on housecleaning.
Now I am dusting myself off and going to play blocks with my little one--she just ate the pencil shavings from the pencil sharpener so I guess breakfast is over.

O Eve, is this a Monday instead of a Friday. Now I feel I have (not meaning to) offended you. I did read you post in the debate forum. I am up early the morning and late into the night. But I have to stay close by because of the little one. So I read a lot, and reading the post in each link is entertaining and educational for me. It shows that my life here is not much different than those across the country or around the world. Granted I do not get out as much as I did before the girl arrived but that is because of PPD.
My post was intended to let readers know that though the children of Iraq are suffering the children here too are suffering as well. Before the girl came I was more involved with activities on campus that helped these children, like reading camp, play day...things of that nature.

I am so sorry if it sounded like I was on the defensive. I should explain the first part of that statement too. I am not going to be able to be on every morning and evening like I have been for the past month because school is going to start soon--I am a student. I will still be here just not every morning or evening.

I look foreward to logging on and laughing or even just smiling at what is going on because most days I am just crying my eyes for no apparent reason. My girl is a darling and at 13 months old she does not know why mommy is crying but tries to comfort me, that is not her responsibility. As I said being able to laugh or chuckle even has helped me in so many ways.
I am rambling and using you as my therapist.
Eve keep talking and making me smile, tell me to hush when I get on a subject and won't let go, tell me come back to planet earth when I go way out there, most of all know what I am saying is just me chatting. the age spread on the site kept most of the guesses to the 1950s, 60s and 70s. I think there were just a couple from the 80s.

most of the shows were kids' shows or prime time. Very little mention was made of soap operas (maybe people were too embarrassed to admit it), newscasts, regular sports shows...

In any given TV season, 3 networks times 5 nights of prime time at a half-hour or an hour per show...most sitcoms are a half-hour...

how many people participated? about 20? Average number of shows listed? subtract duplicates...subtract radio shows...


hmmm.... I think Karen is about right. So that leaves me with 199 or 226...

I think this is my first visit to your page, so I'm leaving a big box of Frango Mints (formerly made in Chicago by the Marshall Field Dept. Store company & some fresh flowers.

I would guess around 212. The list I compiled for myself when we were thinking of shows only included shows prior to 1976.(They had to be over 30 years old.) I didn't count my list nor did I post all of my shows here at the time.(I didn't want to post them all.) It was fun remembering all of those favorite shows, even the ones I had to watch because my parents liked them! (And all those theme songs running through my head!)I'll show you my list of shows I watched growing up after your contest is over.
