We had a nice little bull calf born this morning. IH woke me up to tell me that 2 cows had calved, and one had twins. I asked him to tag them. He came back in to say that he could only tag one, the other two were to fast for him to catch. So I got up, got dressed and went outside. There was only one newborn. The others were a month old and NOT twins. You'd think that he could tell a newborn from a month-old calf after 20 years on this farm.

Mamacita.... I have professionals process the beef. I don't have the facilities to do it correctly. I do stay and watch them being put down. That way I know that it was swift, painless and calmly done. I cannot stand the thought of any of my animals suffering.
I'll tell you what, Mama. I don't have a lot of beef left from the last steer that was processed, but I'll send you some from the next one. That may be in less than 6 months.

Oh Heidi, that would be simply wonderful! Thank you, is not enough, yet I can say nothing more sincerely.
I rather thought that you'd have professionals doing the butchering, but would know how it was to be done. After asking, I recalled a convo about the difference in Kosher processing of food and meats and you telling us about some of the experiences you'd had. Such an interesting and involved life a farmer has. I'm sure glad to learn so much from you.♥

Looks like it will be another nice day. Getting my eyes tested today for new glasses. My computer ones are OK but the reading ones are stuck up with super glue!

Yay, not working today!
After being told how much I do not know at my new job, was told I will be permanent part time? Go figure!

Just lazing around waiting for IH to call me from his lab. I'm gonna pick him up and take him to the mechanic's to pick up his truck. I'm not expecting a call for at least an hour.

June, I can't even find my reading glasses right now!

Broni, if they tell you that you don't know much they don't have to pay you as much - well, their possible logic. Permanent part time means you know your hours - and you can take on others if you want....

Gotta run, got to deliver Dana for her ultrasound and ctg. The baby daddy is going with her this time. I figure if it keeps him off drugs it's a good thing, but I'm terrified she'll go back to him! Biting my tongue, the same as I did when they started jumping off things when they were little.

Both his lab and his office are on the property, but on other parts with separate driveways. By road, it's half a mile to the lab and 3/4 mile to the office. It's a furlong (1/8 mile) to the lab across the pastures, and twice that to the office.

Hi everyone - I almost couldn't find my way back here, it's been so long. I've had several issues to deal with lately, some that have sent me into a state of depression. Won't go into it but suffice to say, all is well with us all now so hopefully onward and upward!
On that note it is only 3 weeks tomorrow before we head off to Melbourne, to meet up with whoever is available there, and then on to Tassie - can't wait. A holiday is sorely needed by the 2 members of this household!

I can't read up on everything I've missed so I hope all is well with everyone especially those I don't see on FB like Tricia, June, Heidi, Nola and Vicki - I have thought of you all a lot. If it seems strange that I have been frequenting FB and not here, it's merely because it's so much more impersonal - I'm sure those of you who do use FB would agree. I felt if I came here I'd be pouring my heart out daily over some things that I'd made into mountains and things I can't change.

Good Evening (early for me), Everyone!

Didn't have any luck today finding postcards, but didn't try at Walgreens, Tami. A clerk at another store suggested a gas station or a "dollar store." Didn't have time to try either today, but perhaps tomorrow will be successful.

Brenda, good for you for getting packed and ready! Enjoy your weekend! (It's so much easier when you're traveling by car and can throw one (or several) last-minute item(s) in and not worry about an over-weight charge!

Heidi, congrats on the new bull calf! My guess is that IH never even got close to the others that are a month old. (Wouldn't they already be tagged?)

Mama, I agree! Have learned so much about what Heidi does, which seems to be a bit of everything and a lot of some things - and certainly more than the other adult living on the farm.

Oh dear, June, it's VERY difficult to see through super glue. No wonder you need new glasses! I hope you find the just-right pair!

Broni, I hope you're not as confused as I am! There's so much you don't know, but they put you on permanent part-time. I suspect you are doing much better than they're saying! I hope they give you just as much work as you care to do!

Heidi, if you need to pick up IH from his lab, I assume that means you also took him there. Hopefully he was willing to work around your schedule, rather than dictating times to you!

I agree with Heidi and Tami. I think Dana and baby's life will be much better without his influence. Unfortunately, he can probably make claims for visitation. I hope that doesn't happen - certainly wouldn't want him to have the baby by himself!

Cyn, we're so happy to see you back posting here. It's definitely more personal here, and I know I've said more here than any other site on the internet. I know people can still come here and read, but it feels much more private, and I know I have good and trusted friends here! It's so reassuring to know that I can bare my soul and unload burdens here and receive support and understanding from you wonderful people! I'm glad things are on a more even keel for you now, Cyn! Enjoy your time away! What fun, Melbourne, then Tassie! Will you see eaa while there?

WooHoo, Heidi doesn't need to make a trip to pick up IH, at least today!

A question for those of you who visit fb! Have you seen fewer postings the last couple of days? Last night, the most recent posting was 28 minutes old. The next most recent was more than 20 HOURS old! Maybe I should have changed my privacy settings recently - or maybe a lot of my friends have done that?

Looks like I'll be through here before midnight! Good thing! I'm really Thinking of all my SA friends, even if I haven't mentioned you lately! Positive thoughts, healing vibes, prayers, and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for all!

Tami, what a journey you have sent me on. I found Sharon's albums. She used to buy post cards as they were less expensive than photos. Her trips to England, NZ, Hong Kong and USA. I did not take any cards from them. I then found a box of cards which were ones we had sent home, some from my parents, friends of Belinda and Sharon etc.At the moment i have not covered Sydney but about 6 from NZ, same around Australia, Germany, UK, Norway, HK, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Tailand, Canada, Alaska, Noumea, Fiji, Cuba Etc. Some of the cards are 20 years old or more. I did keep most of the ones with writing as they were personal and nostalgic. Not sure what I did with the ones from Rome but what I have will be a very good Geography lesson.
Julie, the super glue is to keep the wing on the glasses. Otherwise my eyes had not changed much and I would not have needed new ones. I get the reading ones (with purple frames) in just over a week, the computer ones a week later.

Hi everyone! Like June, I need to visit the optometrist. It's been a couple of years and I'd like a new pair of everyday specs.
Kevin and I have been out and about today. We are looking for a new queen sized bed for our spare room. At the moment we have 2 king singles stuffed in there and barely any room to walk around them.
We are going back to look at a bed we saw last week - hopefully it's as nice as we remember. We don't need the spare bed just yet as we don't have any visitors in our future but it would be nice to be prepared. The hardest part is finding a new owner for the other beds. They are worth next to nothing to sell so it doesn't seem worth the effort.

A few minutes to 2 am. I have a cow in labor and she's playing hide-and-seek with me in the dark. I did see the calf's 2 front feet sticking out. I'll give her another 15 to 20 minutes and go back out and check her. I have a pretty good idea where in the 12 acre pasture she's hiding. Yes, I have a million candlepower searchlight, but there's a slight fog out and the light reflects off the fog instead of showing the cows.

It's lovely to see you back Cyn. I was concerned but did see you on FB so thought that you were just busy. Are you going to catch up with David and Janet in Tassie? Let me know the best places to go as Kevin and I are planning on heading there in October (if things go to plan )

Suzy, did they say why Dana had lost weight or are they still investigating? Maybe all the weight is going into the baby and she's not retaining anything.

It's 37℉/ 2.8℃, but it feels warmer, probably due to the fog and lack of wind.

Julie, I noticed that myself yesterday, very long time since last post including any posts from the game I play, but I refreshed (may have restarted too) and it all seemed to come back to normal. I noticed Zinga had a post about a lot of players were having problems, and they thought FB might be 'doing something'! I think timeline is coming in very soon :(

Hi Vicki - yes, we hope to catch up with David and Janet in Hobart but nothing arranged yet. I did send a message to eaa but have not heard back from her, will try again closer to the time because I won't be taking my laptop so, apart from the first week when we are staying with friends and I might get the odd chance to get on quickly, I will be sans pooter - wahhhh!

Evening all,
No idea why Dana lost weight, she is eating, but it isn't going into baby. In a month she only grew as much as they would expect in 2 weeks. So far still waiting on the results of the ultrasound and they are doing daily ctgs in the meantime. I suspect it is just working it off, it moves constantly.

Morning everyone. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

June, I really hope that I didn't cause too much of a problem for you. I was hoping to get a few postcards, not the big windfall that I will be getting. It is greatly appreciated. I just hope my students enjoy seeing them also.

Everyone else, please don't rush around trying to find a post card. It is not rush but I really appreciate the thought. I hate to think my friends are going out of their way just to help me.
