Good night friends. We had almost no rain from Isaac, just a couple hours of very light rain total. Some of the time it did not even get the deck totally wet, just spotty. NO tornado watch. Isaac missed us, I am happy to say. It should be far north of us tomorrow, before it makes a right turn back East.

There was a lot of flooding south of New Orleans. Yes, New Orleans is not on the coast, but about 30-40 miles up the Mississippi river. As one person said about the flooding, the water has to go somewhere. If it is not going into New Orleans itself, then we are getting more than our share. The flooding was partly caused by Isaac's storm surge and partly it's being so very slow moving, just sitting there and bucketing down rain for 3 days, in places up to 24 inches of rain. that is 2/3 meter for the Aussies.

Heidi, your meal sounded very good, I know you enjoyed it. Happy you got all the hay in before your rain started.

I am off to beddy bye, see you in the morning. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Hugs to Nola and Judy!

MizT, I only got the steam cleaner that does floors. I was happy overall, but it was a lot harder work than I expected! I did get some spots up that have had me beaten though...

I like the idea of your pull cords, living alone can be a scary thing!

Gail, we have Boo, Loo and now Too. They are often used alone (hey Loo, dinner's ready!) but mostly in a combination. DanaBoo, AlieLoo, and TahliToo...

Rolanda, crossing my fingers for mid-Nov. Everything seems to have moved quickly up until now.......

Heidi, a good feeling when a job is done! No matter what the job is.

Good/sad day at school today. I was in Support. Shorthand for working in the Support area today. Some of the kids are mainstreamed for some of their classes, but most aren't. I had a girl burst into tears because we wouldn't believe her that 8 divided by 4 was 2 and not 32 (she was looking at multiplication tables). She went and sat outside doing more maths crying her eyes out. I went out to her and said 'Did you do your very best? Can anybody do any better than their very best? Some of the smartest people in the world say that if you don't make mistakes then you aren't trying. I'm not sad you made a mistake because I know you were trying!' etc etc..

Later as a reward a couple of them were playing Monopoly. I asked to be banker because I knew they would find it difficult. So glad I did! They would not have been able to play...

It was fun playing with the calf on my break.

I can't believe it has been 15 years. I remember being as sad as if she were a family member and making fun of myself for feeling that way.

I was invited today to talk to some girls about what being an engineer is all about... they think they might want to be engineers but aren't really sure what engineers do. Puffed out my chest I tell you.

Good morning.Out of bed so I can sit up and get rid of some of the congestion. Not much voice yesterday. I hate these nuisance colds.
I have Laura again this weekend and she has a party to go to today. Just have to find something to do to fill in a couple of hours while she is at the party. Half an hours drive away so no point in coming back home.

Having a lazy day here, mainly because my belly is hurting. It feels like ulcer, but it could be diverticulitis. I made it to the grocery for the 3 main staples.... dog food, carpet cleaner (Jack's had a few accidents) and bacon. Since we've only had a few light sprinkles, I'm gonna try to mow at least part of the lawn now. They say the heavy rain is supposed to start tonight. Isaac is very slow moving, fortunately.

Hi everyone.
Great to post feeling a little bit more like myself.
June..hope you managed to get some sleep before having Laura for the day and taking her to a party.Losing your voice on top of a cold must make it hard to wait for her when you could be home in bed. Get better quickly!
Viv..how are you going? Good to hear from you.

Suzy..what a lovely teacher you are, to give some 1 on 1 to pupils. The girl will remember you all of her life as a teacher who took the time to understand and encourage her.
Heidi will know exactly what it feels like to have a calf suck your finger.I was probably 7 when that last happened to me.

Gail..bit of a shame the birthday package hasn't arrived for Chloe.

Heidi..glad that you have the hay in. Good advise from MizT about having a mobile phone with you while working outside.Having one on you as well as farm workers close by is reassuring for us also. Accidents happen and we all care about you.

MizT...happy to hear you didn't get flooding etc from Isaac.Maybe some more rain would have watered your pot plants for you.Seriously though,it is awful what the victims of the hurricane are going through.

Big hi's to everyone else. Haven't seen Julie's updates for awhile.
Gregs ute is still not fixed. They fix one problem then encounter another. Not happy.
I am doing a late but want to see Judy this morning. She had ANOTHER fall, making 4 now.She says she is fine(because she wants to be).Only bruising luckily. Will go and clean up the kitchen before I go. Catch you later!

Lying in bed this morning I opened FB on my iPad to be greeted with a message from Chloe, it arrived and she is as happy as I hoped. I was a little worried as she works during the day and lives in a block of units, not sure how they were going to deliver the package without it going missing.

Hi folks..
Have sort of kept up with the reading but have been too exhausted to post.. Warning.. RANT coming..

It is nearly 3 weeks since I succumbed to this bug and I am totally over it.. Finished the double course of antibiotics and it nipped the bronchitis in the whatzit but my asthma is out of control.. will go and see the doctor again next week.. all I seem to be doing is coughing and wheezing. Consequently not sleeping well and quite exhuasted. I don't have time to be this exhausted..

Jay arrives tomorrow and I have been too sick to whip the house into shape.. Fathers day tomorrow so Lachie is heading over to spend time at Pete's so he won't be here to help.. he is going to vacuum the mattress, room and help me make the bed before he leaves this arvo. I'm glad he's up early..wasn't expecting to see him before midday. He's gone out to buy milk.. I can now have coffee.. woohoo...

Antibiotics work great against bacterial infections, but no antibiotic works against a virus. Wanna bet you're dealing with a virus, Bean? It sounds something like walking pneumonia, which takes forever to go away completely. I hope I'm wrong, and it's easy to treat by the Doc.

I finally got the lawn mowed. It takes a few hours, and it was hotter today than I realized.... in the 90's, and very humid. I have NO big jobs to do tomorrow, thank goodness, so I have a day off. Unless I want to mow the lawn around IH's office. The office is his, but the land is mine.

Hi Heidi.. I had a virus and developed a secondary infection as asthmatics often do. That has cleared up but the after effects of bronchitis [lethargy] do linger.. I was pretty weak and totally laid up during the worst of it. Now all I have holding me back is asthma.. not an infection. Not that that isn't a problem as all asthmatics know.. not being able to breath isn't a picnic. Thought I was going to be calling an ambulance the other night. I start to cough when the bronchioles constrict.. salbutamol puffer opens them up enough for wheeze to become audible and that is then followed by a moist very productive cough.

For those that don't know a lot about asthma the MAST cells [I think] go into overdrive when having asthma attack and produce copious amounts of mucus which if you can expectorate isn't a problem [sounds ghastly] & will not become a secondary bacterial infection. If you have a viral infection on top of that it is often too much for the bodies immune system to cope with. Couple that with effects of the diabetes and yep.. easy to get into strife..

I'm hoping I'm not going to need prednisolone to get on top of it.. haven't had prednisolone since becoming a diabetic.. don't know how well they will mix.. Tricia.. your thoughts would go down well right about now...

One good thing about NOT get here more frequently was your saga about Jack Heidi.. would have been very anxious along with everyone else if I hadn't read all that in one sitting..

There were a few things that I wanted to comment on other than sending love & big hugs to Nola and Judy. Such a difficult time for you..

Oh.. I remember .. thank you Heidi for your comments re Theresa's foot pain being related to high blood glucose levels. I thought I had made that clear but obviously not. My understanding is that the high blood levels has a damaging effect on the nerve endings resulting in the neuropathy .. the evidence of which is the foot pain.. If the nerves aren't damaged you won't feel the pain.. was reading an interesting medical journal article the other day about whether the damage is/can be reversible.. need to find it so I can finish reading it..

Funny you should mention about neuropathy related to diabetes. Greg has had nerve pain in this upper thigh for awhile now and today he told me he is sure it is beginning in his other leg. He finds the least bit of friction from clothing very annoying and cannot wait to get his clothes off when home from work. He takes his pants off when in the door, just like I take my bra and shoes off. hehe
I wonder if the 'Circulation Booster' would help.

Still haven't done the kitchen, hung the washing out or gone to see Judy. Oh well.

Bean, the nerves in my feet are fine ... all the poking and prodding showed no damage.

I have had bronchitis a few times over the years, and the doctor always gave me a narcotic cough syrup so I could sleep (as well as antibiotics). AND SLEEP I DID. In fact you are not supposed to drive or use any kind of heavy equipment while on the syrup. That stuff was fantastic. Any chance you would be able to take something like that? I can't remember the name of it because it has been a few years. When I was able to sleep, I was more able to fight the bronchitis.

Things have been a bit quiet, and yet oddly enough hectic at the same time. I know, that doesn't make sense. Some family obligations to take care of.

Hi all. TGIF. It was a crazy day at school today. Put one little boy in his place and called his dad. He was showing off in class and not letting the other kids do their work. He is in a class of 13, 12 boys and 1 girl. I feel sorry for the girl.

Getting there..
The box room... aka the Guest room is void of most boxes [except my sewing stuff], is vacuumed, cobwebs mostly gone, bed made up and flat surfaces mostly dusted...

Had planned on clearing down my sewing table [a huge desk] so there is a place for her case, laptop etc but have run out of steam.. time for a wee siesta..

The rest of the house looks like a bomb has hit it... such is life..

Theresa have you had full nerve conduction studies done? Using electrical stimuli? Often you can't really tell until that is done. I respond to all the prods, jabs etc. Except for when I am going through a numbness phase [ intermittent]. None of it matters if you are addressing the cause of the problem.. blood glucose levels.

If I was to take a cough suppressant [which should only ever be used for non-productive coughs] I would quickly go into respiratory distress..drown in the secretions. I have codeine here [cough suppressant part of most cough mixes] and cannot take it for the same reason. My chest has to be totally clear for me to take any drugs that cause any form of respiratory depression [all narcotics to some extent]

Nola will let you know when I find it. I'm turning into a walking encyclopaedia.. will be able to apply for work as a diabetes educator when I'm finished.. I certainly understand how non compliance in a patient works.. denial.. etc.. Pity about that..

Look forward to the trouble tomorrow TT

Great news Jack is settling in so well.

Hope you are feeling better soon June.. a few warm sunny days will fix us...

Just wanted to tell you before I nod off.. need to take a photo of one of our fly screens.. a small hole is now VERY big.. dog head size? The other day they also discovered the spare room window open.. woohoo .. instant access from the outside .. so easy to jump up and through the window to land on the spare bed..they LOVE the spare bed and think I'm very mean to have banished them..Lachie has found and old steel bed base/frame which is now leaning up outside the room.. doesn't keep the flies out but it does keep the dogs out until they have worked out how to pull it down..

BTW..What a page...
