June - my cat is the same - she is also 17yrs old. She has thyroid tablets twice a day and 5 feeds a day - constantly hungry but seems happy enough. Good luck - it is not an easy decision.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself. Had an interesting evening last night. Hubby was watching tv downstairs and rest of us were upstairs. I hear hubby call for Mitchell. We assumed he found a lizard in the house. I also heard Harley chasing something. This time it was not a lizard but a frog. A little thing, about the size of a thumbnail. We have them outside, first time one was in the house. Mitchell caught it and put it outside.

Morning friends, I am up and at em early for me today, but then, I started my sleep very early last night in my chair. Are any of you like me, can fall asleep while watching TV with no memory of going to sleep, just that suddenly you are awake and realize this is a different program on the TV? Last night I woke at 9:30 to see coverage of the national convention was on TV. I had been watching a NCIS LA program, big difference hehehe.

I have sent off another e-mail to Linda at EP, it has been another week with no communication. I just want to know what is happening.

I am expecting a friend and her husband from Australia to visit first week in October. They have membership in a timeshare and swapped for a week in one nearby. We will have a week together. I have met them twice before, both times on a previous trip they made to the US. she is in my cyber quilting club. I am so looking forward to seeing her again. I had hoped to be all settled in my new apartment and at least be able to have them stop by for a meal on the way down to the condo we will share. It looks like I will still be in boxes, either here or at apartment. Even if I can sign lease this week, it will take me a week to get movers lined up and the remaining packing done. That leaves 2 weeks to get settled in, and unpacked, not apt to happen.

Tami, where was Harley when the frog was in residence? I can picture Mitchell hunting and capturing the tiny frog, how funny.

June, a difficult decision for you with the cat. I know you will do what is best for all concerned.

Heidi, I enjoyed hearing about your collie and the visit to nursing home. Reminds me of when the day care my daughter attended visited a nursing home. the director had done a wonderful job of preparing the children. Residents who wanted to meet the children were taken to the day room, and the children walked from chair to chair visiting, giving pictures they had drawn, talking with 'the grandmothers and grandfathers'. then I noticed 3 year old Tanya was not in the room. Uh oh. Looking about, I saw her come out of a patient room, and go into the one next door. she was visiting the residents who were not well enough to come to the day room. We just followed behind her, watching. she would go to each bedside, reach up and touch a hand, stand very still, and the resident would reach over and pat her hand or head. No words, but they did communicate. When the patting stopped, she would go on to the next room. She told me later, she had to go visit them, they were too sleepy to come visit with the others.

Time to make my morning coffee, I shall return. Hugs with extras.

Good Morning All.
MizT...What a sweet story to be shared early in our time zone...sounds like 3 year old Tanya knew that it took a little child to lead the way...wonderful. Here's hoping that your moving date will be communicated to you soon so that you can get on with the rest of your life and really enjoy your friends visit the way you want to.
Thinking of you all and sending blessings to each...may the sun keep smiling on you no matter how many clouds try to block it. Peace.♥

What a wonderful story, Tricia. It really brought a smile to my heart.

June.... I know you have a loving, caring heart, and will do the right thing for your elderly cat. Sometimes it can be kinder to have them put to sleep earlier in the final illness before they start to seriously suffer. You are the one who knows your cat and what it needs. I've never understood people who try to prolong an animal's life as long as possible, and the supposedly beloved pet is miserable.

IH got home at 1 am. Oh, well. He just keeps turning up.

Morning all ... barely.

I took a walk to the store, walked around the store for about 20 minutes, picked up a few things like a new runner for the doorway, than came home. Now my feet are aching again. So I am sitting at the computer to rest them. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

MizT, what a touching story. It's amazing that even at 3 she knew she should visit the ones in their rooms. I am sure she must have brightened the day for many.

June, horrible decision to have to make. Sometimes euthanizing an older cat who is not well is the right thing to do, especially if you plan on being away for a few weeks. It's always hard on animals when 'mom and dad' leave, but I imagine it must be harder on an older cat. You are in my thoughts! If I lived closer to you I would gladly take care of her for you.

I had to run a mess of errands this morning... Vet Clinic for flea & tick stuff and to schedule an appt. for my horses.... pharmacy for meds for me.... grocery for food for dogs, cats, birds and people... bank..... and I stopped at the farm equipment dealership. My new bat wing bush hog is in and on the trailer to be delivered as soon as they have a minute. They've just been too busy to deliver it. The owners wife had a brain aneurism and had to be rushed to the hospital and is still in critical condition. As far as I'm concerned, she's FAR more important than that bush hog.

Tami...good luck with the new position,I'm sure you will manage to learn what is needed and I hope you enjoy it immensely.
June..way to go, winning and you were still sick.
Bean...I hope you get better very soon after your Dr visit. It must be very uncomfortable to say the least.
Heidi...I loved the link to the dog that felt very guilty.Made me laugh. PJ sounds like the perfect gentleman to entertain the kids. They will love him. The RSPCA occasionally bring in dogs to the centre and the residents love it. They also enjoy seeing babies.
Theresa...your a lovely DIL to do some cooking for FIL. Good to hear progress is being made on the bathroom.
MizT...bummer that you are in so much pain.Big hugs!
Broni & Cyn...as yet, I haven't had a chance to see your handiwork.Sounds very time consuming and I bet they love it.
Rolanda..the weather there looked terrible.Glad that you got an extension on the rental.
Suzy..so the family are still having health problems. Hope Allie is soon on the mend with AB's. Very nice to hear she sang the song again since your Mums funeral.Big hugs.
Any up-date on the painting and floor Gail?

The zoning board appointment is not official yet. The current member who is moving asked me if I would take the job. It still has to be ratified by the County Judge Executive (who is a friend of ours). I need to go in to the courthouse and talk to him tomorrow, then he'll make it official.... unless there's someone else who he's rather appoint.

Heidi - loved the dog video. The 'guilty' dog is just like our Jewel and that's exactly how she behaves if she gets into trouble! Hehehe! (I didn't do it, don't look at me! But I'll just slink off where I don't have to make eye contact!)
Tricia - that was such a nice story about the kids and the nursing home and 3yo Tanya instinctively knowing to visit the bed-ridden ones.
Oh and, yes, I constantly fall asleep in front of the TV and wake up at 1am to take myself to bed. Strangely, I have always taken my glasses off but never remember doing it.
June - nothing worse than having to make a decision like that about an ageing pet. I know you'll do what's best for the cat.
Love and hugs all around - especially to Nola and Judy!

Heidi, good luck with the zoning board. Sounds like something you will be good at.

Tricia, What a lovely story about Tanya. I once took Mitchell (6) and Dylan (2) to visit a friend's grandmother in a nursing home. The friend was with me. They were having a Halloween party and the boys were in costume. The boys had fun visiting and the people had big smiles. Made me feel good too.

The funny bit about our zoning board is that more than 3/4 of the board, since we've lived here, have not been locally born people. The majority of the zoning board are people born in Wisconsin, like myself.

Everyone! Wow, I'm here earlier than usual. I hope that means I will get to bed earlier than usual! We've been having too many early (for us retired people) mornings. The last year we taught, I got up at 5:15 to get ready for school, and was usually out of the house around 6:40, as my school started at 7:25. Most days, hubby was still in bed when I left, as his school didn't start until 8:30.

June, thinking of you as you deal with an older cat and making the best decisions! Midge, seems like you may be in the same position in the future. Almost three years ago, (after our younger cat died), I would have expected the same for us. The surviving cat is now 17 and luckily seems healthier now than she did then.

Tami, enjoyed the story about the frog. Did Harley try to get it? Is that why Mitchell needed to go downstairs & catch it? When do your duties as webmaster begin? Hoping that goes well!

MizT, I hope you soon get an answer about the apartment availability! It would be nice if you could be moved and settled in by the time your friends arrive from Australia! What a sweet story about the preschoolers (and especially Tanya) visiting at the nursing home!

Mama, you always seem to have the right words! Thank you! How are your oxygen-free days going? Of course, they're NOT oxygen-free, just not being supplemented.

Theresa, so sorry that your trip to the grocery store yielded the results of sore feet! Does it help to put them up or ice them?

Heidi, what a busy day! I hope the wife of the equipment dealer is improving. Congrats on being recommended for the county zoning board! They'd be crazy not to accept you!

Nola, thanks for popping in for updates! Sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers for Judy - and for you! Enjoy your time together!

At my cello lesson today, I asked my teacher about the Chicago Cello Society. I joined last December at a holiday function, and have not received any communication from them. She suggested that perhaps I should be on the board. I looked at my hubby, and we both laughed. (We are membership chairs, on the education committee, on the mentoring committee and on the biannual symposium planning committee for our wood club. My neighbor thinks one of us should be on the board of our homeowners association, and now this? I think we have both learned how to say, 'NO!')

As I have a few things that need to be done before sleep overtakes me, I think I should bid you all a fond farewell. But first, here are multiple positive thoughts, healing vibes, prayers,
and {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} for all of you! Good Night!

Cursed! If I wrote the script I would get it right...
So, yesterday was a particularly nasty day for us weather-wise, with 100k winds and the like, so for sure the power was going to go out, especially considering Scott was supposed to go on overnight. 6pm last night, I am up a ladder trying to finish the first coat on the kitchen as time is creeping up on us, and sure enough the lights go out! Nothing to be done except shrug our shoulders and go out for dinner. We got home, winds had calmed but power was still out, so at 10pm, nothing for it but go to bed...twenty minutes later, all the lights came back on! He had already made the decision not to go on, and it was just as well because the power went out again through the night.
Today was the day we were supposed to start moving furniture out in readiness for the floor laying, so I rang for confirmation...of course there was a drama! The container that was supposed to get in this week carrying the Sandy flooring got delayed and the other container got here first! Story of our lives! I went back down to the flooring place to check out the colours again because if we had chosen the Coffee all would be sweet and it would go ahead as planned. Checked out the little samples we had brought home against the ones on the floor, and they were completely different due to aging. The Sandy and Coffee were almost the same on the floor, whereas the samples had the Sandy yellower and the Coffee darker! To cut a short story long, we have changed back to the Coffee and it will be started and finished next week.
Oh, and getting back to hubby going on the machine, he looked at the forecast and made the decision to go on today, as tonight the winds are due to pick up again. He was on for two hours and, can you guess?

THE POWER WENT OFF AGAIN!

*sigh* It is what it is.

Greetings all, from lovely warm and dry (our area) UK.
Gail I thought you had bought a generator to back up your power in case this happened while hubby was hooked up?
Nothing much happening over here, schools are back after the summer holidays which for most of the time wet and cold, we have had the wettest and coldest August for a 100 years. Now it looks like we are going to have an Indian summer, I don't mind too much as we are going away again on the 15th. We have a friend visiting us from Canada, she is travelling up in Scotland at the moment, who will be joining us in Somerset for a week and then coming to stay with us here for the last few days of her holiday.

Julie, yes Harley was trying to catch the frog. Living where I do frogs, lizards, etc are normal. They don't bother me but some can be poisonous to dogs so we get them out quickly. The funnier one was when Harley was trying to catch a fly.

I have a routien doc appointment today, so I am getting neat and clean for that.

I sent an e-mail to Linda at EP, it was in her box Wednesday morning. I still have not had an answer. DRATS!

Did not sleep much last night, just laid awake in bed, not fun. Hips hurting and meds just did not want to work last night.

OH, the storm that once was hurricane Isaac is back in the Gulf as an unorganized low pressure system. If it strengthens, it will be renamed Nadine and will start the tropical depression, tropical storm and unlikely but possible, hurricane Nadine. I do not think I have ever heard of a storm doing this before. We got rain last night, as it came through here. I think that is what woke me shortly after I got to sleep.

More later, in the meantime, hugs to each of you, with extras.

Good Morning All,
Julie, so good to see you and to read about your busy, busy days...glad you and hubby have finally learned the art of saying 'no'.Hope you got some needed rest after all of those early calls, retired or not.
Heidi...hope you get the board position officially...boards need people who truly believe to serve, and you fill the bill perfectly.
Broni♥....Weren't we among the lucky ones to have been blessed so completely! Enjoy the memories, they are so worth being brought to light repeatedly.
Tami...the large population of toads, lizards, frogs, etc.in Florida, is among some of my reasons for not jumping too quickly at moving there....LOL. I will make up my mine once and for all by the end of January.
Gail...the weather has really been playing havoc with you and Rolanda...sorry you were away when hubby was on the machine w/o power...not a good feeling for either of you I'm sure..
Theresa, Bean, Nola and MizT, Judy and June...hopefully all of you are feeling a bit better today and you can move about more freely. All of you are wished complete healing vibes and I include all of your family members....Suzy, am not leaving you or your gang out...just didn't type in the name with the others because I wanted to know if you were given any more teaching assignments that went beyond a couple of days at any of your recent schools. We use to keep several 'good' casuals in line at certain schools almost on a regular basis, but I recall reading that your schools were running on a restrictive budget and it aroused my curiosity.
May you all appreciate the blessings of today in the faces of those you love...Peace.

Broni - big hugs to you today as you cherish your memories of JD with your friends, he was obviously a special man.
I was remembering that in October it will be 5 years since I joined this wonderful Sudoku community. You joined a few weeks later. We possibly had similar reasons. You were looking for something in your grief at his loss. I was in that dark period of my life where I was estranged from my son and his girls. I couldn't sleep, I could barely function and turned to my computer for solace during the long nights. Then I found Sudoku - my life has changed so much since then, I have some dear dear cyber friends, some that I probably will never meet and many that I have had the joy of meeting. And a year later, my son came back into my life by his own choice and I have a close bond with him and his girls again. And he is no longer tied to a woman who does not 'get' the importance of family.

Heidi - you have shown remarkable restraint. Gail - Hope today goes without mishaps - we have more lousy winds coming today - just in time for the football - go Pies! Have been lucky enough to get a ticket for tonight to see my team get thrashed!! Last year my goal was to go to the GF - it kept me going whilst I was in hospital for all of those months. I actually made it - left the wheelchair and had hubby push me up the stairs but I did it. What a long way I have come in the past 12 months - couldn't have done it without my wonderful family and the 'switch off' time I spend with this site. Thsank you all for your chit-chat - MizT and Mamacita - you are inspiring.
