2am in the morning and we have been woken by the howling wind, not to mention things being blown around. We think our boat canopy might be gone. Too dark and dangerous to look. Not much rain, it's subsided.
I don't mind saying that I'm scared. We're in the zone with the highest winds - up to 125kph. We thought the islands off the coast would buffer us a bit but they're not.
Glad you checked in Vicki, was wondering how you were faring. Happy Birthday! I hope the morning brings us all some peace. Broni, I hope it's stayed ok where you are. Nola, sorry about your rental home, if it goes under.

I can only echo Mamas wise words. ''Things can be replaced, but life is irreplaceable!''
Is that low considered a tropical storm, or just a low with an attitude? I haven't herd the word ''hurricane'' being bantered around.

I'm not having a good day. I'm feeling sick.... hot and nauseous. Oh, well.

I have heard from Nola, a frantic night trying to get to things in the holiday house and the people there but they are all safe.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your birthday wishes. I'm typing this on my new iPad mini that my sons gave me. I'm a very lucky lady!!
We have had lots of rain overnight and the wind is still up. The dog won't go outside - it's too wet!
Hubby has just gone to work. I'm not sure why as most of the train lines are closed.
I have to ring my mother to assure her that the predicted floods won't affect her house. I think it's safer to leave her there than try to go and get her. The roads aren't the place to be today.
Tomorrow won't be fun either - school is back for the year.

The weather here isn't too bad today. It's 45℉ / 7.2℃, and drizzling slightly. I can live with that.

Nola's night sounds pretty scary to me, especially when she was separated from hubby. I hope her insurance covers the damage to the house.

Cyn, I was woken by wind and rain about the same time as you, but when I looked at BOM this morning the rain wasn't actually very heavy or the wind that strong.. I must not have been sleeping heavily..

Good morning everyone.
Happy Birthday Vicki, hope you have a great day. :)
Hope everyone is safe in the flooded areas. ♥ In Vic. we're told that Violet Town, where Mum is, is ready to evacuate if the fires spread in the wrong direction. I'm sure they'll take good care of her, but it's a worry ...

A major data communications outage is affecting large parts of Queensland. This radar service will be restored as soon as the outage is fixed. Only Marburg station is working atm.

Why is it raining when the radar shows nothing much (now that I can access a radar at Grafton)? Haven't seen the sun yet. Well, we survived the night with no read damage except blocked drains. Even the boat canopy was okay.
Everything is looking bad all over the Eastern part of Queensland. I think this will end up being a worse disaster than 2011. Although flooding is expected in Brisbane, it is not expected to be anywhere near the height of the last one, so that's good.
I'll be happy never to live through the last few days again.
Vicki, enjoy your iPad and I'm glad you're celebrating a birthday without too many weather worries and your house intact.
Major communication problems today, spent half the morning trying to locate my kids and ensure all my chickens were safe, they are. As someone said, possessions can be replaced, people can't.

Try 128k range Cyn, still a drizzle around your way.
No major damage here, just heaps of debris. House across the road had a big branch from a gum tree land on both their cars, couple of skinny palms lost the fight out front of my place, hope cousin's car was not in the way before she went to work this morning.

That sounds like one humdinger of a storm! I'm SO glad that everybody is OK.

Tomorrow will be an interesting day. Besides the annual Leadership Banquet tomorrow night (Lousy food... the same every year: cold country ham, green beans, fried apples and rolls), IH has to appear in court for speeding through a school zone while children were exiting the school. He's gonna get a BIG fine. He's been told that he might lose his license. I told him that if he does, I will not be chauffeuring him around. He will have to hire a driver.

I'm looking for an update from Nola. I'm guessing the rental is in North Bundaberg, but I'm not sure where Nola or her work are... I'm telling myself that she's probably either working or packing and will get here when she can, but I keep hitting refresh anyway...

I've been up to the hospital this afternoon to visit one of the guys who was in the stroke unit with me. When I worked out that I couldn't use my knife and fork together I started to cry. Then looked across at Graham who was waiting patiently, hoping no doubt that someone would come and feed him before his food got cold. I was feeling incredibly uncomfortable when people were examining me, using hammers and looking down my throat when I knew I desperately needed a shower and to brush my teeth and a little resentful that they wouldn't let me go on my own. Then I watched Graham wait 3 hours from when the nurse first mentioned giving him a wash and getting one organised. The only complaint he made was that they wouldn't let him go home and even that was with a smile.

Graham has been a quadriplegic for 27 years since he was 24.

Hi everyone.
Hoping Nola is okay. Still raining here. It is just battering us from the North. Computer is in sunroom facing North so water coming in the windows here. Have towels all along the wall.
Of course my son thinks this is wonderful and has spent the last two days sliding down a cliff face on his bodyboard. Joined by many other young guys I can tell you. Geez.........

Suzy, I have a friend like Graham, I met him on line long before this type of communication became popular or even common. He was always cheerful and if I was a bit down in the dumps he would cheer me up. It wasn't until weeks after we first started chatting that I found out he was quadriplegic.

Suzy - doesn't Nola work at the hospital? It is being evacuated as we speak, patients being flown to Brisbane hospitals. Not because of flooding but because of water supply and sewerage worries.
Suzy - a big hug for both you and Graham.
I can't believe the police just let that car keep going after driving through the foam - how dangerous!

My bro and some of his family are isolated again up near the dam. This time they were all prepared and got supplies in. It is because once they open the floodgates of the dam, it floods their bridge to get down towards Brisbane. And the other direction had local flooding anyway.

I tried to look up Nola's address in the phone directory but she is not listed. I was just going to look if her area was affected y the floods. Her 'holiday' house that gher son lives in was going under last night and they were announcing that the force of the water may wash some houses away. I do hope Nola does not lose that house as she has had enough worries lately.
I am not sure if it is the hospital or some type of nursing home where Nola works.
It is posible that Nola does not have power etc to be able to let us know what is happening.

By the way we are just getting lots of rain and maybe some winds but hpefully the storm will have almost blown itself out before it gets here.
Had a phone call from Laura and she has the chicken pox. It means she cannot start school on Wednesday. She is very disappointed as it is important to find out who her teacher will be this year and if she has any special friends in the same class.

I thought Nola worked in a nursing home too June. Hope things are ok for her but it does sound scary.
What a time for Laura to come down with chicken pox, just in time to start a new year at school. Hope she feels better soon.

I hope that rain that's hitting you in NSW brings good soaking rain, no flooding and no high winds - and that it continues on to reach the very dry areas in Victoria. One projection I saw had it doing just that - but things can change.
I was sure that somewhere, either on SA or in her email, that Nola said their house would be OK, only their investment house. Hope so, anyway.
I think, after last night's lack of sleep, I'll go watch some TV and then off to bed early (for me) by 11pm. Night all!

Scary stuff happening in some of our suburbs but pretty sure Cyn, Vicki and me are OK. Cous is becoming more of a problem but this will be sorted. Looking forward to my big adventure down south and thinking I can catch up with Viv (as well as Zusy and June) on the way back. I am excited.

That is one nasty storm. I think you in Oz suffer more from storms like that because so much of your population lives within range of hurricanes and other major low pressure storms.

I hope the storm swiftly moves to the fire besieged areas and ends that threat soon.

Good luck to all in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

I echo that which Heidi has posted above...' Good luck to all in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria'.Reading of your harrowing weather experiences has been scary indeed....The lack of loss life in the face of the weather reports is amazing...I pray that it continues that way.
Our weather on the other hand is snow, freezing rain and a turn around to just rain due to rising temps...at least for a few days...good to have a brief respite. Stay safe all...no matter where you are...I care!♥
