BTW, Cyn, you really put it well: So much to do - so little interest in doing it!! Goes for me, too!

Hi, Suzanne! You posted while I typed, so I didn't realize you were here. We're getting rain, which I much prefer to your snow. I really wouldn't mind if you would keep it in Utah!

I see you left the TOPP for others, Tami! I didn't realize we were ready to turn the page.

The calf count is 31 live calves so far... 17 heifers, 14 bulls, and we lost 4 calves and 2 cows. I'm hoping to get the calf crop back up to 50 calves soon. I'm keeping a bunch more heifers for replacements, and I got Yahtzee to cover Rede's daughters.

Julie, I wasn't keeping count on the posts and didn't realize it was time for a topp.
Heidi, hope you get the calf count you want.

There's only 4 cows to go, Sassy and 3 first timers. That'll be 4 or 5 calves if Sassy has twins. For us, this is a very small calf crop. But I sold a lot of cows in the last 2 years because of bad dispositions, and I'm just building the numbers back up. I've got 8 replacement heifers to breed this spring, and I'll keep a bunch from this calf crop as well.

Good Afternoon All,
Hope to hear from Rolanda soon about her mum.
Heidi, sounds like a fairly good calf season, do you normally expect to lose calves and cows?
Julie, great summary again.
Hugs to everyone.

Good news story. Bella sniffed out an injured lorikeet on our walk yesterday, my cousin came over and had to climb a tree to rescue it. She took it to a vet that cares for injured wildlife and last report the bird was doing well and was going to a carer last night, nothing broken but was probably hit by a car.
Grrrrr story! D&D are trying to sell the business.

It's extremely rare to lose even 1 cow. Over the previous 17 years of calving, we've lost a total of 2 cows. We may lose 1 or 2 calves a year. This year has been disastrous.

I went to try to put leg bands on a couple of the baby Gouldians , and had a strange discovery. One of the babies has a birth defect! It's missing 3 of the 4 toes on one foot. It has the back toe, and the 3 front toes are missing except for the toenails. The other foot is normal. My first thought was to put it down, but then I decided to give it a chance. I'll see how it copes when it gets old enough to perch. Right now it's doing well. It's the biggest of the 4 babies.

That is amazing Heidi, would have thought with the cold temps you get there you would have more fatalities.
Yep, go figure with D&D! Not feeling very secure about my future here but something will come up.
Will the Gouldian have enough toenail to grip the perch? Mind you I have seen one legged seaguls cope quite well.

I'm gonna wait and see if it can grip a perch, Broni. It's only 8 days old right now. The nails are too small to tell yet. It will probably have an easier time than a bird that loses the toes because it has never known anything else.

Checking in before bedtime tonight. It is time for my snack and I have not decided what to eat yet.

Broni, I do hope that if D and D sell, the new owners will realize your value and keep you on with them. You would certainly be an assett to them. Happy to hear the found lorikeet is doing well now, and nothing broken.

Has anyone heard from Rolanda? I am concerned, she has not posted lately.

Heidi, interesting about the birth defect of your bird. I wonder if this would be a mutation that would be passed on to offspring, or was just a birth defect that was not genetic. Do let us know how the little guy progresses, please.

Hand is aching tonight, but so far tylenol is working for me. I do not like to take pain pills unless really necessary.

Had a phone call from my oldest daughter today, and my grandson with autism has been accepted to a small school specializing in and accepting only autistic children. His needs were not being met in public school, so he can get vouchers for private school. Problem was, daughter had to find him a school. She went to this school, to have a gauge to judge other schools by. They did not hope for this school cause it has a long waiting list. Well, he was offered a place. They are so hopeful that he will like going to school again, like he did before this year. something was just not right at his old school.

good night all, catch you again tomorrow.

Great news about your grandson, MizT. It sounds like this new school understands him.

I believe that this is a congenital defect in it's foot. I won't use it for breeding anyway, if it does make it.

Checking back in, and I'm glad I did, as there have been quite a few posts.

Hi, Heidi, Tami, Broni and MizTricia!

Rolanda had some information on fb. Here Mum was to be released today, but her aunt/tante had plans to be away, so Mum was coming to Rolanda's house for the time being. Won't say anything more for fear of miscommunicating.

Heidi, I had a feeling this was an uncommonly difficult year for you so far. I certainly things start looking up as you rebuild your herd!

Broni, good for Bella and finding the injured lorikeet. Hopefully, it will make a full recovery. D & D certainly have lived up to their names. Do you think the business can be built up again? If so, you would certainly be an asset to a new owner!

Heidi, an interesting discovery about the baby Gouldian's birth defect. Maybe it can benefit from our positive vibes.

MizT, wonderful news about the school accepting your grandson. Will the placement start immediately - or next school year?

It's past midnight here, so I'm off to bed. Good Night, Tami and Heidi! Good Night, SA9A!

Morning everyone! I'm up early to get a jump start on a busy day of much ffuts :(

Broni, good luck with D&D ... thanks for rescuing the bird!

Heidi, hope the birdie is able to function with the defect.

MizT, so glad your grandson was accepted at the school. Sorry about your hand. Mine is not as bad as yours and once I get the x-rays done we'll know what we're dealing with, but I can certainly sympathize with you. Take care!

Rolanda, glad your mom is going home, but please take care of yourself!

Hi CynB, Victoria, Julie, Tami and all others. Hope everyone has a great day/evening/night.

JULIE, grandson's new school will start for him mid month, right after spring break. He did so well when he went for his interview. He went into classroom with strangers, they got him to do things the staff at the public school had difficulty getting him to do, simple things like take off his vest he wore outside.

Rolanda, GRRRR about hotel Rolanda. I am so sorry your aunt could not change her plans to care for your Mom. Try to rest when your Mom is resting, I know you are still low on energy.

Time to get in shower and then off to the doc, I hope to check back in this afternoon and finish reading.

Hugs to all.

Morning all!
I read last night but got to the end and couldn't remember anything. The kids were asking for a turn on the internet so I gave in and decided to try again this morning.

MizT, I think your cats tell the mother cats about the food. It's amazing how they communicate.

Victoria, your post made me laugh. Save a life? Wow! Reading on... lol!!!!

Cyn, I imagine what Emily went through with your ex-DIL/witch before she was an ex and while you weren't able to be there for her. Maybe she is better off now than she was before the divorce/separation. It's something to hold onto for Emily..

Julie, Ally writes her songs down. She worked out how she wanted to sing them then sang them to her teacher. Her teacher has software that does an amazing thing - you pick a genre, it 'listens' to the song and suggests chords etc to you. I'm sure it's more complicated than that really, but... I hope to hear her songs to music soon.

Tami, your break seemed far too short.

Heidi, you are helping me to understand what it is like for farmers who thin their herds in times of drought etc. A few tough years!

Broni, are you sure it's a bad thing D&D are trying to sell the business? Do you think you might be happier elsewhere? Tough transition though.. I love the lorikeet story - Bella is a clever dog!

MizT, it is fantastic that your grandson has been accepted into that school. It sounds wonderful! I don't think regular school is a good place for kids with problems because the focus seems to be more on 'coping with having a differently abled child' than on helping him or her to develop and learn.

Good morning lovely SA people.
Heidi - I understand why you won't join FB. I just wish you were there too. It's mainly time-consuming if you play the games.
Suzy - the strange thing is that until this split happened, I would have given ex-DIL/witch (I like that) 10/10 as a parent. She seemed such a loving mother to them all including Em. I think something snapped inside her, she wanted out from everything. She's complaining lately the Hayley is back-chatting her all the time - what 10yo doesn't. She'll be abandoned next. Wouldn't surprise me one bit!

Good evening all. Had a good first day back at school, if going back to school can be good. Tomorrow is an all day field trip which should be fun.
Broni, enjoyed the story about Bella, animals are truly amazing.
Tricia, glad to hear your grandson will be getting the help he needs. One of the teachers at my school has a son who is autistic. He has been doing well. Hope the hand is feeling better soon.
Heidi, hope that the bird learns how to cope. Since he doesn't know anything else, he may adapt very well.

Morning everyone.

Trica: Mum insisted Aunt not change her plans to go down to Daughters. Aunt will be back on the Weekend, Mum will go to her place then. Meanwhile Son#1 and his girl, are staying here and helping me.
Mum is doing ok! I think she slept better than I did!! She was having some breathing probrems upon waking up, to which she started to panic a tad. I have her sitting in a chair, and she has picked up.
