I watched my SonIL this morning change my daughter's dressing. There are 27 staples in all. Sorry if this is TMI.
The eagles' site is back up for me now. I think I will sneak another peek.

The calf is now trying to get up. It's gonna take him longer than normal because of his ordeal. I had chains on his legs just above the hooves, and had that hooked onto a mechanical puller which exerted much more pulling pressure than Robert and I combined could exert. We tried to do it ourselves first, and couldn't.

MizT - hugs, hugs and more hugs. So glad Joy is moving back into the area.
Heidi has another grand baby!!!!
Temp is nice here today, 0C, and the sun is out. The ice is finally starting to melt from the trees and bushes - although it did look beautiful at the time. Weather predictions are that we will have a colder than usual spring, so the groundhogs were wrong! March to May are supposed to be colder. Can't really complain because our winter hasn't been too bad. Not a lot of snow and not too many really cold days in a stretch.

So you're getting a fair number of bulls, Heidi. Isn't that what you were hoping for? I believe one time you said you were thinking maybe 35 calves in total this year would be possible?

I can tell the bus driver is thinking of my youngest grandie right now. She threw up on the bus twice on the way home from school. My daughter has been told to stay away from people with colds and flus - think that's going to be hard to do for her.

I think the chance of survival for today's bull calf is low. His head is still swollen like a balloon, and he doesn't look good.

I also had an accident with the calf puller. I may have a broken bone in my foot. It's badly swollen and black.

The swollen head was due to being wedged in the birth canal too long. And it was too long. He didn't make it.

I'm gonna wait a day or two to see how the foot is. We're still early in calving and I can't afford to have my foot in a splint or cast. I need to have to wear muck boots out into the calving pasture for cow checks and to tag calves.

Sorry about the calf Heidi!
As I read through the posts since yesterday I was hoping it would be a good news story. But you did what you could and saved the mama. I hope that foot isn't broken.

and Gekko, Everyone!
Just reading page 580 now: Hi, vdV, CynB, Broni, Theresa, Tami, Heidi, MizTricia, June and Suzy!
So nice to see/hear you, vdV! Sonic boom, indeed! I wonder how the writing is coming!
Suzy and CynB, I'm loving the "scarcasticness" and "CARCASTIC!" I'm finding I need to be ever more diligent, as my fingers don't always type what I'm telling them to. I also have a problem with homonyms; I know the correct one and know how to spell it, but my fingers don't always cooperate.
Broni, the mom eagle is currently sleeping. Life is so busy that I am finding it hard to visit during the day for more than a few minutes. (However, I saw Heidi on the eagle chat when I was there for a few minutes. Chat - regarding the eagles only and questions & answers - is only available between 8 am and 8 pm U.S. central standard time.)
Tami, so glad you slept better and that Mitchell got his splint off! Can he tape the fingers himself, or need help from Nurse Tami? I hope the next 2 weeks pass quickly and he can be back to normal!
MizT, I'm glad there are some amenities for families as they wait. I can also understand that they don't want lots of people hanging around. However, you can only do so many errands, and the weather isn't predictable enough for you to be outside for long stretches of time.
Thinking positive thoughts for Joy and hoping the infection, possible MRSA, can soon be healed! Sounds like she works for a very understanding company!
I'm beginning to realize how many of us are visiting the eagle site! I hope it's not affecting what all of you can get done during the day as much as it is me! Suzy, the snow has melted AND they're adding twigs and grass and making it deeper.
Heidi, I hope that new mom and her little bull calf have improved during the day! Crossing fingers for them and for you!
MizT and Heidi - I hadn't even thought of the work experience that little girl will one day be able to list!

On to page 581: Hi, Theresa, Heidi, Broni, Suzanne, Tami, and CynB!
Theresa, it's a good thing your SonIL is willing to help with the dressing! Those staples are probably fairly close together to speed the healing process, so not a terribly long incision! We must think positively here. Good for your SonIL!
Heidi, what a shame that the efforts of the mama cow and you and Robert were not enough to save the bull calf! I'm so sorry! I hope the mama makes a good recovery! I hope you don't have a broken bone in your foot. Good luck getting through calving - another 22 to go? Thinking of you!
Broni, hurray for the cooler temps! Hoping they make life more bearable and can be shared around much of Australia! (I guess you just must put up with the rain and thunderstorms in order to get the cooling!)
Theresa, I hope your grandie can stay away from your D as much as possible and lots of covering coughs and washing hands!
Suzanne, I hope your cough is better and you have a wonderful lunch with your friend Janet tomorrow! Have things improved for George?
Ah, Cyn, another convert to the eagle site. (Eaglets are likely to be born early in April.) I have SO much I should be going, yet I keep going back to see more!
Sending positive thoughts, prayers,
and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to all of you! And now, off to bed (earlier than usual, but I'm falling asleep here).

I'd better go to bed. My foot has swollen up to enormous proportions. It has one use, tho'. I showed it to IH, and he immediately offered to do the cow check for me.
At least my wheelchair is back home.

Hello everyone!
Sorry I've been MIA. Busy weekend and busy start to the week. We actually managed to catch up with our neighbours on Sunday and have a Christmas/New Year drink.
I met the other neighbours while out shopping with #1 and his girl on Saturday. The neighbours are having a baby - their first and it's due in May. I guess we haven't seen them around either.
We just never seem to be home. Poor Kevin has been working since last Tuesday, finishes on Friday, has Saturday off and back to work on Sunday.

Hope your foot is not broken Heidi, well done for saving Mama, will she mourn her calf?

Hi Broni, it's time I left the aircon and headed home to the heat.
That thunderstorm came out of nowhere last night and woke me up. It was really heavy rain at our house. The garden really needed a water so that's one less job to deal with now.

Hey Dag, good to see you.
Poss is going well and did his first physio today so was a bit sore, his specialist was really happy with his recovery last week and pushed the physio on earlier. His trip after the op to Sydney was for another very sad funeral but had seen his mum too, this just happened a bit quicker than he hoped.

Sorry about the calf , Heidi. i know what it is like with the 'calf pullers'.
I saw some great shots of the eagles this morning. They were moving the cam about so even watched the male fly far away.
sorry about Possum having to come to Sydney. Hope his Mum will be OK.
