Now my work moves to the back yard - still so much to do there. I'm getting hundreds more bulbs to plant this fall - need to prep the areas they will be planted in. Also, will be receiving some Mimosa trees from a friend and am going to use them to fill in the back area where a driveway goes by. Another friend is giving me a couple of big English Laurels in her yard to help create privacy back there.

Good morning all.

Cyn...I'm glad your Mum remembered Andrews visit to her and she didn't notice how long it had been since your last visit.Hopefully you will feel a bit better each day now.
Judy...a busy schedule lined up for you.Guests and a wedding!
Tami...the pix are great,a lovely gesture to give your hair away.It must have taken you years to get it that long.
Julie...when do you have your knee replacement done?Hope all the physio will make recovery shorter.
Stella...great news about your fuel saving car.Its the same here, you can only drive an auto if you got your license in an auto.Have fun teaching the kids!!
Vici...isn't it nice sometimes to be alone and veg out doing whatever takes your fancy.
I bet your garden will look great when the plants grow especially when the bulbs come out.

Greg and I spent the day at Renaes,I helped her with the shopping then we had lunch at home. The girls had me laughing that much as I pushed them on the swing, that my face was aching.I had lots of cuddles with the foster baby and he fell asleep in my arms...so cute.

Morning all
Morning rush is about to start but I thought I'd drop in for a couple of minutes to 'gird my loins'. Doesn't that mean something like gain strength? Might have the wrong expression there. I'll have to look it up.

Stella, wonderful news about your new car. I think in NSW you can drive a manual/standard if you got your license on an auto after 3 years or so.
Vici, while you're over here do you want to attack my yard?
Nola, it sounds like you had a wonderful day! Nothing like little ones to make the world seem a better place.

Oh Suzy! Would that I had the time to visit your wonderful home and work in your yard! I think Bean has almost every second of my time mapped out - so glad there is time scheduled to meet with you. Hope if you don't make it to the Halloween party, that you can make it to Sydney. We'll be heading up there towards the end of my visit in November and it looks like we're going to fly now, in order to have more time up there.

Good afternoon all. I appreciate all the comments on my hair. It really feels good do to something positive. Not sure if I am going to grow it again. This was the second time I have done it. This time was 2 1/2 years since my last hair cut. My hair is starting to turn grey and they don't want grey hair

Suzy, glad the car is working.
Nola, it sounds like you had a great time this afternoon. Sounds like a fun way to spend a day. I love when a baby falls asleep in my arms. They are just too cute.
Vici, glad the yard work is getting done.
I drove a standard transmission for 4 years. It was fun. Mom could not borrow my car as she can only drive an automatic. It was not so much fun when I broke my finger and my dad made me drive his car for a month. He didn't think I could shift and steer with only one good hand. At the time I could shift, steer and eat my lunch at the same time.

When I learned to drive, we had manual transmission cars, both left and right handed, and automatics. The car I usually drove to school had the drivers wheel on the left AND the shift lever on the left side as well. That didn't interfere with getting in and out because the only door was on the front of the car and the steering wheel was attached to the door. ( It was an Isetta) I learned very early how to drive anything.

One of the 'fun' things about driving in the US after learning in Australia is the gear stick. It's the same in both countries, but in Oz you sit on the right of it, in the US you sit on the left. So in Oz, first gear is up and away, in the US first gear is up and toward you. I tried to take off in 3rd gear many times before my automatic pilot switched gears.

Suzy, that sounds like I would get confused. Sometimes I miss my standard transmission. Both cars we have are automatic.

Here in the West.

If you learnt to drive in a Manuel Car, you can drive a Automatic Car.
If you learnt to drive in a Automatic Car , you can not drive a Manuel Car. You would have to sit for a Manuel Car License at the Licensing Centre.
My boys learnt how to drive in a Manuel Car.

Good Evening, Friendly People!

June, so sorry to hear about the friend who succombed to a nicotine habit. (Hint, CynB! We want you to be among our Sudoku friends for a long time!)

Cyn, I'm glad you were able to visit your Mum this week - and so glad that she was aware that Andrew visited!

Suzy, the story about Sam, the koala, was touching. So sad to read that a fire survivor had other ills. What great news about your car and an honest mechanic! Pay it forward.

Rolanda, I hope you have shared fond memories of your Dad & Granny Grandma today.

Tami, that's amazing that you could do 2 Locks of Love donations with just one haircut! I had been trying to grow my hair (also curly) for the same reason, but it's so THIN, that it was looking awful. I finally gave up & had it cut, as it looks fuller when it's shorter.

Welcome back, Bean! We can't wait to see pictures of your garden! Once you and Gail & other friends get it shaped up, it will be easier to maintain (I think).

Speaking of Gail, how does YOUR garden grow? Have you and hubby finished your projects?

Hi, Brenda! I'm impressed that your hot slidey thing takes under an hour! Maybe it's like a garden - you have to keep up with it and not let it grow to be too big an undertaking.

Stella, how did you and your offspring like Harry Potter? It seemed that SOO much was left out of the movie. I told my hubby I would HATE to be a script writer & have to decide what was included and what wasn't!

MizT, I hope Al is feeling better today, and hope your back isn't causing problems! I guess Al won't be able to work on the car until he's back up and "firing on all cylinders." (Sorry, I had to find some car talk to throw in there.)

Suzanne, I hope you and Darrell had a great time in Salt Lake City today!

V Vici, how nice (I think) that Mike is back home. I know you got lots done while he was gone - even if some of the "lots" was time for yourself! We'll never tell. If anyone asks, you've been moving rocks & sprucing up your yard day in and day out!

Knees update: I found out that my insurance only pays for 30 days of physical therapy per year. That was sounding pretty good - until someone asked me when their fiscal year starts. It might be July 1, in which case, all my sessions might get used up BEFORE the replacements. That is NOT good. I need to try to call the insurance company tomorrow. Wish me luck - it will probably take over an hour to even talk to a live person. (The surgery is currently scheduled for Feb. 4, but may get moved sooner if anyone scheduled ahead of me needs to reschedule.

Vici, I didn't realize you had so much more landscaping planned. I was thinking you were nearly finished - until I read your posts on this page. Good for you! You will absolutely love it when everything is established & growing!

Nola, it sounds like you and Greg had a lovely day at Renae's with her, her girls, and the foster baby!

Judy, busy times make happy times! Enjoy!

Stella, I hope the Cash for Clunkers works out for your family! What a savings that would be in gas purchases - and hopefully no repairs needed for quite a while!

Hi, Rolanda! I hope your day has gone well!

Heidi, how is your hand today. I was getting a bit worried when we went so long without a post from you. Have you gone to a doctor - or Emergency Room to have it X-rayed? Please take care of yourself!

CYNB, I had thought swine flu myself, but because he was not running fever, doc did not even consider it. He gave him antibiotics and he gave him steroid nasal spray and said if not better in 2 weeks to come back for further tests. Doc said the throat did not look that bad, but hubby assured him it hurt bad just the same. Maybe it is man flu?

We saw Happy Potter at IMAX. The first 12 minutes were in 3D and, although I usually can't see 3D, the effects were amazing. The movie was great. The kids didn't reread the book so they didn't remember all that was left out. They probably could have made the book into two movies. A lot was left out and since I just reread the book, I really noticed it. Ian never read the book and he absolutely loved it. He wanted to see it again at the drive-in last night!

JULIE, I thought so too. It seems that the doc thinks allergies are causing post nasal drip that has caused irritation then infection in the throat. clear the allergies with super nasal spray, and if the sore throat gets better, that is your diagnosis! We will see if he gets better or not. He does not have the cough of the flu going around.

It is a loverly day in the neighborhood, I slept exceedingly well, and shhhh, do not tell, but back is better this morning. but then I am sitting, not moving about. We shall see how the day progresses. I am enjoying the no back pain at the moment no matter the cause!

I must finish peeling a basket of peaches to go in freezer, In a bit over 4 weeks, peaches come back into my food plan. We will be near at end of peach season, so I am putting some in freezer (with NO sugar of course) waiting for that day.

CONGRATULATIONS on the new grand baby, eea! Many years of happiness to the entire family.

Now I must go and make some quiche myself, Rolanda! I hope to get back today, but a lot to do here, it is

time again, front grass did not get mowed last time and needs it.

It is also time again, I have not made that second scrub top for hubby! Off to that room and the bog swamp I go. Send out a rescue party if I do not return today!

In the US, there are no restrictions on the type of car you can drive no matter what you take your test in, an automatic or manual. When we were looking to buy our last car, we couldn't find a manual. Now with the expense of gas, they've made a comeback. I don't think Brendan will have a problem learning how to drive it, but I think the girls will have a hard time, especially Bryana.
