Our pets

  1. It would be fun to know what kinds of pets we sudoku players have, their descriptions, names, ages, etc.  Please enter your usual posting name first, followed by a list of your pets.  That way if someone wants to take a quick look at who has what, it will be easier to spot the owners' names.  Thanks.

I have 4 dogs:

Timber - a retriever cross 12 years old - my good old boy
Diego - a Coton du Tulear/Shih Tzu cross 6 years old - a real stud (has fathered 8 litters so far)
Mija - a Maltese/Pekenese (1/8) cross 4 1/2 years old - a very good mum
Toya - a Maltese 3 years old come September - also a good mum

I don't know what I would do with out them; they provide so much enjoyment. I don't remember a time in my life that I didn't have a pet (cat or dog) of some type.

Very sad day today, we had to have our 14 year old dog Pebbles put to sleep. She had cancer on her foot/pad.
Last year unbelievably our retriever (about 10 years old) had the same thing, she had one and a half toes amputated which was a very long ordeal and she almost lost her entire leg.She is now doing well. We decided that because of the advanced age of Pebbles it just wasn't fair to put her through all that. Still doesn't make losing her any easier though.

Oh Sheila. I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss. Who said they were pets, they're family members. Sending you some virtual flowers in Pebbles memory.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play toether, there is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comforatble. All animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who are maimed or were hurt are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intense; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he hegins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carryig him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

This was sent to me by the vet who put our dog down recently.

Sheila, My condolences....its such a difficult time, but Pebbles will flourish in your heart forever. It doesn't seem fair, I know, but just think of the happiness that Pebbles life gave! Peace be with you.
Lynda, Thanks for sharing 'Rainbow Hill', While it brought tears to my eyes, I had to smile thinking of the reunion waiting for me one day! Thank you!

A pet story in memory of all great and small pets. We had two cats. A Ginger, a tomcat and Cinderella who was rescued for a back lane as a very tiny kitten. Ginger, who used to rush to his milk, would sit and wait patiently while Cinderella stepped into the saucer (she was very small, remember)and slurped up the milk as best she could. When she had finished he would then clean her up before he had his own milk.

Several years later,Ginger was killed by a car. we buried him in the garden. Cinderella would sit for hours on the mound where he was buried.

I've had cats early on and they were great, but my dogs have been my loyal companions, playmates, and children who never talk back...I love my dogs....each one has been my favorite. At Christmas, I hang a stocking with each dog's name on it...their pictures adorne my walls and they remain in my heart forever,,,,,,!

My ginger cat, Scrap(aptly named) came to us as a feral kitten many years ago. We adopted him after he had disappeared for a while, when he got back, both front legs had been broken and had healed bent, hence Scrapheap or Scrap. A kinder more loving cat, you could never find. One day, about seven years ago, I looked out my back door to see this big ginger lying on the back lawn with something black, nestled in his lap. When I got to him to take a look, it was a little kitten. Whether it was his baby or whether the mother had died we don't know but over the next few days, he brought us three tiny kittens, two that we still have, Punch and Judy. Photos of them on my page.

We have 2 dogs, Molly and Mishka, and 2 cats, Smokey and Minnie. The cats are getting a little old now. The dogs are both fairly young, almost 3 (Miskha) and 2 1/2 (Molly). We lost our beloved Collie, Tosca nearly 3 years ago. Here is the poem that our vet sent us when we had him put to sleep. It's called "A Dog's Plea".

Treat me kindly my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I might lick your hand between blows your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when the sound of your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to the bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my bowl filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food so I might stay well, to romp and play, do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should you be in danger.

And my friend when I am old and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see to it that my life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing that with the last breath I draw my fate was always safest in your hands.

Hi
We have a shepherd cross kelpie, 5 y/o, named Shadow (Moon Shadow in full) who loves to escape. You wouldn't believe it! Just as I typed that I looked out the window and caught her trying to get out the back gate!!!!!

Rockie is a staffie crossed with something really big. We don't know what as he is a rescued dog. He was helping in the escape attempt.

Tip Tap is a budgie who loves to fly around the house and sit on our hand. He sulks if we forget to let him out and won't sit with us for a few days afterwards.

We also have three chickens and three quails - all of which are laying eggs. Hopefully we'll have baby quails soon.

Tip Tap is sick! He has had an injection from the vet and we are giving him antibiotics now. The vet says that birds are very hardy and so when you can see that they are sick it is usually too late. Because we interact with him so much, we may have caught it in time. It's touch and go though....

Tip Tap is still alive - and seems to be improving. He hates me though as I am the one giving him his medicine. He will fly to another room rather than be near me!! It's worth it though.

Hi all we have a Jack Russell called Popsy girl. She was a birthday present for my son Ryan, he named her, when he is a teenager he will probably be embarrassed. She shares a birthday with my other son Bryadon's 30th December. We also have a gold fish named Patch because he has a black growth over one eye and we presume is blind in that eye.

Hi,

We have a 17 year old horse, and 18 year old Persian cat (adopted when he was abandoned a couple years ago) and a 1 year old Siamese cat/kitten that needed a new home at just the same time that the Persian needed a new roommate.

I have two cats. Tuxedo & Nigel.
Our neighbor gave us Tux after a member of their family became allergic to him. (Our previous cat had just died.) Tuxedo is black & white and because his nose leather is black on his mostly white face, he really looks like he's dressed up formally in a tuxedo. He's our alarm clock. He tells us when it's time to get up & go to bed...even on weekends! You'll always find him on my lap when I am at my computer.
Our younger son found our second cat, Nigel, while out looking for Tux on the golf course behind our house one evening. Nigel was only about 10 weeks old and on his own. He is a beautiful silver tabby and we call him "Roo" most of the time because our son always has nicknames for everyone and it stuck. Nigel's the cat who makes it possible for me to post early every day. He's diabetic & I have to give him his insulin injection every day (morning here) just before turnover time! He's VERY skittish (maybe because he was an orphan cat) and we have not been on vacation/holiday since he became diabetic. I don't think my kind animal-loving neighbor/neighbour would be able to find him to give him his insulin. If the doorbell rings or front door opens and Nigel's spinning out trying to hide!

I have just dropped in to update my pet status.
We have another cat!!! That makes five.
Nibbles came to us a couple of months ago when I was looking through a house that my girlfriend wanted to rent. The girl living there had a cat that had had a litter and there was one kitten left. Well...I couldn't resist it. She is a longhaired black and white kitten with heaps of hutspa. Will post a pic of her on my page later today.

I have two West Highland White Terriers. Ceilidh (a gaelic word meaning a party with singing and dancing -- and pronounced "kaylee") is 6, and has a Novice Obedience title and a Novice Rally Obedience title. She is also a Certified Therapy Dog with Therapy Dogs International, and we try to visit once a week at a local nursing home. Visits often take 1.5 hours, which is pretty tiring for her, but some of the folks just light up when they see her.

Her daughter Pooka is 3, but I haven't spent as much time training her or taking her to any trials. I can't imagine a life without furry companions!
