I've spent many a night with one foot hanging out of the bed, touching the floor. When I was younger, I drank a LOT!

The laptop I got for IH has built in webcam and microphone. I told him about Skype, and when I mentioned the word FREE, he freaked. Now he's thinking of using it with his business partners.

julie- my son benny has the exact same fracture in in L4. it is the pars interarticularis. benny's is a complete fracture so it will never heal with bone union. my two dr. brothers did tons of reasearch for me. in the end, if it is not hurting don't touch it! the surgen said he could do a surgery if it got too painful play sports. but the surgery must be done before he is 20 or he wouldn't heal properly. to make a long story short, you hubby should not get the surgery on his L4. at least, research it alot more and get more opinions.

my brothers also said the fracture is not the problem. the problem was the pain. benny was three months in a brace and zero stress to his back (no lifting, jumping, running etc.) it was the worst 3 months of his life. when the CT was done to see if he had healed we were told that there was no healing and that he would have to give up sports indefinatly. it was terrible to see my big 17 year old cry. here the reasearch began and the second opinion came in... if it doesn't hurt go ahead and play. you won't injure it further, and many people live a life time with this break and never even know it.

What an awful ordeal Benny went through. Poor kid. At least it's being watched.
Do they have any idea why it didn't heal, Mariana?

it couldn't heal because there was NO bone union. it was a complete fracture. after letting it get a good rest the pain went away. i think it was causing him problems because he was growing alot and because he was doubling up on sports. he did some phisical therapy to strengthen his core to support his back better, and he takes care to not over do the physical activity. he also avoids some types of weight lifting that loads the back. it is actually rare for this injury to cause the pain it was causing benny. he was to the point after a practice that he couldn't walk. we had seen a dr. previously and he said it was just a muscle strain, and could work through it. of course we believe this "working through it" caused a crack to turn into a complete fracture. at this point we went to a sports doc, and them to a couple of surgens armed with lots of research. it pays to be informed!

Brenda, not sure about your place, but dropping hints as to what I'd like for gifts doesn't work here! Even direct statements don't work sometimes. Christmas just past I told D how badly I needed a new tiny cosmetics purse - the type you slip in your handbag. They cost all of about $3 and are freely available, but no, she goes and spends more than 10 times that on something else. I don't like my kids buying me expensive presents (I'll wait until they're working full time, then they can spend as much as they want hehe)

Yes, Heidi, I wanted her to feel that she was buying me something that I really wanted and needed without spending much. If I don't get one for my birthday, I'll buy it myself!!!!

Hi, June, Susan, Dizzy Lizzy, Heidi, Suzy, Mariana, Broni, CynB, anyone else visiting here. Mariana, thank you for your comments. Since hubby is 62, he's not worried about the end of his sports competitions, as your Benny. On the other hand, since it wasn't diagnosed until about 6 months ago, he was fortunate that he didn't have to deal with the pain, brace, etc. that Benny had. We are just going to have to be really aware and notice any changes, as that might be what will be the ultimate decider. We were told about a spine institute in Florida which is either really good or really bad, depending on who we talk to.

Susan, sometimes our children just feel that a small, simple and inexpensive gift couldn't possibly be what we want or need. She was just trying to show how much she loved you.

I'm sure you're right Julie, but she's 13, and her only income is her own birthday and Christmas gift money. I feel guilty when she spends that money on me, but I know giving can bring great pleasure. She always buys me 'world's best mum' types of things - teddy bear, plaque, keyring etc. Last year's was a beautiful pink plaque 'a gift for my mother' with a beautiful poem, bows, butterflies, and dangly bits - chain, beads etc. I am very lucky I know.

Julie, I just sent you a personal message. Susan, I know how you feel. My kids don't buy for me yet, my husband does. My mom and dad hate when my brother and I spend money on them. The adults in family pick names for Chanukah. You buy one gift and get one gift. We didn't want to stop completely. There is a $50 limit. My brother picked my mom this year and bought her a 32 inch flat screen tv. I KNOW he spent for than fifty but he said, she and dad would never buy it for themselves. He can afford it. After all they did for us as kids, they deserve it.
