Susan, if I hint that I would like something I normally end up being bought it because normally I cannot think of anything I would like.
This year I saw a Radley handbag which I fell in love with. Normally I would never spend that sort of money on a handbag, but my eldest daughter was there when I saw it. She went back into the shop and bought it for me and it became my present from my three kids (it was still expensive even for them)
My husband never asks outright for anything expensive, so this year I decided to buy him an Ipod, I had just bought it when he started hinting that he would like a new notebook computer for his personal use (he has a laptop which he used for work and personal) so he was very lucky this year to get that too.

Must be time for you to get some sleep, Heidi. Since Tami is back to work tomorrow, I think, she probably got to bed early. And now, it's time for me to do the same. Good Night, All!

Tonight hubby did the flinging of food at our house. Tonight was planned overs, the Mexican Shepard's Pie. I was busy when he came in, so he got it out, got plates, served it up and put plates into microwave. I think he was hungry hehehe. I made iced tea and stayed out of the way.
I have been sewing a bit today. I wanted a small purse on a long strap to wear bandoleer style when shopping. Could not find one small, light weight or with a long enough strap so decided I could make one. Being a quilter, I decided to piece together some fabric for the purse. I had old silk men's ties, and found 4 that had same colors. Before Christmas I had cut them apart and cut out strips, had the foundation ready too, but got too busy, So today I managed to piece the fabric together. Maybe tomorrow I can start to sew it together. I must choose a lining material. I might have enough blue silk , but I am afraid the silk would be too fragile for the wear and tear it would get. I will think on it a while.
New sewing machine sews like a dream, and I have no idea how I sewed all those years without an automatic needle threader. I am wondering one thing though. How long does it take to break a habit of long standing? I have sewn for 53 years, yes, I started at age 12, made myself a dress. I have raised and lowered the presser foot thousands, hundreds of thousands possibly, times. Every machine I have ever owned, the lever was behind the needle. this new machine, it is to the inside. How long will I continue reaching behind the needle, then having to bring my hand back out to find it on the side? It is automatic, hand goes to the back every time!!

Mizt, I remember many moons ago when I got my first electric sewing machine (when I was 15) my grandmother aged 77 (who raised three children on the proceeds of her dressmaking using a Singer Treddle machine) wanted to try using my machine. It was so funny watching her. Instead of pressing the foot pedal and keeping it pressed she kept 'treddling' the pedal. I had never seen a worse piece of sewing from her.
I wish I could sew, knit, crochet and 'tat' like she could.

BRENDA, when I got married, I bought an old treadle machine from one of Mom's neighbors for $10. It did only one thing, but did it very well, it sewed forward. I used it to make myself and my daughter many an outfit. I even made a fully lined, double breasted linen spring coat on it!
My dad called me one day and said, he could get a motor for the machine for $10, if I paid for it, he would put it on for me. OF course I wanted a electric motor! I did not have trouble going back to electric (I sewed on my Mom's before I got married and still used it if I needed zig zag or something mine would not do). Wish I had kept that old machine, now they are collectors items.

Afternoon all! Just catching up with the comments. Lots of talk of presents and who buys them, and sewing machines....
We have been shopping for shorts for the girls, for what my husband calls 'over shoulder boulder holders', and for stuff to go with the fish tanks we gave the girls for chrissie - except for the fish because we want to age the water before we put fish in the tanks.

Still haven't put the photos of our picnic yesterday up. They're on the other computer and I haven't had access to that today.
Tomorrow the girls are going to spend the day with friends - until Ally has to go to singing practice anyway (still hasn't practiced with the group for Kids Day Out where she is supposed to sing, including solos, songs she hasn't sung in public before).
I was talking to my mother about Ally's singing this morning. My mother is not one to praise where it isn't due, in fact it is rare for her to praise anyone or anything. She actually said that Ally was one of the better singers at Carols in the Park!!!!! After I'd gotten over the shock enough to speak I asked her to repeat what she had said because I didn't believe she had said it!
There I go again, what's that expression, blowing my own horn? I was just so shocked that I had to share it with people who would maybe understand where I was coming from.

Hi Cyn, I'm kind of glad I haven't got my web cam working at the moment. Photos were taken of me at Xmas and I was stunned to see how much I have aged in just the last 6 months. Not enough sleep I think.

I have my grandmothers old treadle sewing machine and it still worked well last time it was used. It was bought in 1910 and I still have the original instruction book.
I started to install the webcam but needed to read what I was agreeing to more carefully before I continued!

Putting a question out there... has anyone heard of this and know anything about it?
I ran into my nephew today and he told me had just gotten over something called extreme radiation dermatitis caused by falling asleep on the beach (for several hours). He said he had severe swelling and muscle wastage (not what he said, he said no muscle left in his calf) and had to use crutches for several weeks.
Based on past experience with my nephew I decided to use google when I got home to check on his story. I found extreme radiation dermatitis, but not much on symptoms, and no link to the sun, only radiation exposure including cancer treatments.
It's terrible to be so untrusting, especially of a family member, but he has 'got' me before.

Wow June, 1910!! That would be a true collectible... and I bet you are glad you still have it. Now you will be able to show Laura what sewing was like in the 'good old days', and your daughters too, though I assume you have already done that.

What a wonderful age we all live in...
I'm happy to chat to anybody over the phone but unless we increase our allocation [currently 4000MB peak and 4000MB off-peak quota which we use every month] it is unlikely I'll ever be able to join 'skyping...' Maybe at the end of the month if we haven't used all our allocation....

Heidi - hope you get hold of your dentist and Viv hope your time with the vampire goes smoothly. Mike is on thyroid meds and it made a huge difference for him. Has to have that blood test periodically to make sure the meds are working.

I'm off early to Reno for acupuncture and Costco shopping. Will miss you all as I won't be chatting from the road. We're suppose to head over to South Lake Tahoe on our way back home to grab dinner with my brother and his family who will be staying there. I'm not sure we'll make that trip as it looks like we may be traveling in a snow storm as it is...don't want to take any more chances than we have to.
