Hair sheep do get heavy, wooly coats in the winter, but shed it in the spring instead of being sheared. There's too much hair in it for it to be usable by anyone except wild birds... they love lining their nests with the stuff.

i so enjoy you topping heidi! on the shy subject- i'm sure this will come as a huge shock to many of you. i am not shy at all. sometimes i talk too much. on the plus side, my jabbering takes the pressure off of shy people. my hubby is a man of few words. i think he dated me because he knew he wouldn't have to talk too much. i just make up what he should be saying and tell him things like, "i'm sure that look on your face means that you are thinking about how much you love me." he'll usually respond with a "yep."

i could hug a snake. just as long as it doesn't have a spider on it! we don't get many around here. i have seen rattlers on hikes in the mountains though.

HGeidi, now play nice! We do not scare people with spiders or snakes either.

I think I shall take Mariana with me when I must be outside in summer, she can hug any snakes we come across. I will step on any spiders for her.

Heidie, sorry about your cow, will you have a necropsy to see the cause? in case it could be contagious?

We're gonna try to have her posted by the Vet in the morning. We had to call the dead wagon already, and schedule them for tomorrow, so we're hoping we can get the Vet here first. The ground is too frozen, and I don't have the energy to dig a hole to bury her myself, so the dead wagon and their schedule are of vital importance. By law, we have to dispose of all dead livestock within 24 hours.

I don't think it's contagious. She looked and acted healthy, and there was no sign that she struggled, or was in any distress at all. She looked like she was just standing there, chewing her cud, and just dropped dead suddenly. I suspect a heart attack. They happen to cows, too.

Good morning lovely SA7 people. I am finally on the road to recovery. I hope no-one remembers how I bragged that I never get the flu or colds because, after a few days of severe asthma, I then developed the mother of all head colds. Today is the day I am taking Hayley to the Abba Mania concert at the Gold Coast so it has been touch and go all week whether I would make it and I really didn't want to disappoint her. Hubby doesn't want me to drive down there in all that traffic so he is coming as well. Will try to get him a ticket today, if not he'll just have to wait around in the casino (without any money). Thanks to those who were concerned about my health. I still have to do my birthday thank-yous!!

Heidi - it seems that our skype meeting was the shy meeting the shy. I have always been shy and it is complicated by the fact that I get tongue tied as well. Since most of us, except Marianna, claim to be shy maybe that is what attracted us to this site. You can be anonymous and you don't have to speak (post) if you don't feel like it.

Heidi, I am not sure where you got the impression that I didn't believe you about your shyness! I am exactly the same. The two times I ever had to speak in public, no-one could hear me and I just could not get my words straight! Amongst friends, I am often considered 'the loud one', the product of being the youngest of six I spose, but put me in a crowd of strangers, and I will be the quiet one over there in the corner!

In fact, the only time I have ever spoken publicly, without any nervousness, was at my mother's funeral, reading my part of the eulogy. I was proud to do it for her.
My hubby was so impressed he kept praising me all day, saying how clear and enjoyable it was.

Susan, I make a lot of effort when meeting with a fellow sudokuist, especially those visiting our city. As I said yesterday, it is not really like meeting strangers, though luckily you can not see the butterflies in my stomach!

Tami - if I did not seem shy, I probably babbled on and sounded dumb - that's what I end up doing.
Gail - I never thought I could speak in public but did it at the weddings of both my children and most surprisingly at my Dad's funeral. My brother and sister, both well-used to public-speaking in their jobs coached me and stood at my side ready to help or take over. They didn't have to and I felt I'd really done something for my Dad.

Suzy and June, this is a site I discovered recently. It has a section where you can add a description of the bird and it will bring up a list of possibilities. Hope it helps.

To our American friends - I was well enough yesterday to be able to watch the inauguration ceremony. I know I was watching history unfold. I feel so much more hopeful for the future now. Obama has a tough job ahead of him but he has the strength of character and moral fibre to do it. Go Obama!!
