Hello, Friends! I just got started reading today's comments. Vibrant Vici, what a sweet YouTube of the moose twins! What fun it must have been to have them visiting someone's yard. My guess is that it wasn't the first time, as someone was clever enough to have a video camera nearby.

Heidi, I'm so sorry to hear about your cow! Are autopsies done on farm livestock to determine the cause - or would that be too expensive and you just take the loss?
Good news about the new lamb!
Thanks for the great explanation of the role of trees!

Susan - I hope your all-in-one fax/copier/scanner works better than ours. We can SEND a fax if we close down the pooter but can't receive a fax successfully. However, that said, ours was not top of the range - a HP, cost about $200.
Hi Julie, June, Suzy etc.

Gail,Loving thoughts for your sister. Hope the operation will have sorted all her problems and she will now be OK.
At the beginning of summer my Mum always packed a suitcase with all the papers and photos that she thought imporant and in later years she packed jewerly, silver and some valuable bits and pieces and had us mind them over the summer months. She passed away in '99, We sold the farm in 2000, and the bush fires burnt the old home (built about 1840) down on Christmas day 2001. But the house was empty and no one about to help save it.

I'm back...I'm so hot I can't remember if I said hello before and it takes so long to turn a page I can't go back to check..
I'm glad to hear that a couple of our sickies are on the improve..
Susan we use VOIP all the time. The landline only gets used for incoming calls. All outgoing calls are using the VOIP phone [except for when the server is down of course]. Took a while to retrain myself to reach for the right phone... Since then the savings on our phone bills just about pay for our internet connection and usage... I think nothing of ringing Vici and chatting for an hour and a half...previously there is no way I could have added so many international calls into my daily life...I just love it. I'll give you a ring if you like so you can check out the quality...

We have a fax machine which is seldom used. If someone wants to send a fax they have to let us know first and then we attach it to the phone line and then take it off after we get the fax!

Heidi, sorry about the loss of your cow and calf. An expensive loss, especially after the loss of the ewe.
Hope you liked the 'spider'!(I Emailed Heidi a spider that crawls over the page and looks very realistic. I would not send it to Tami!)

I loved the story out of Canada about the 11 month old boy playing with the phone and dialled 911. The police were called and arrived arrived much to the surprise of the father. They did a search of the house and found 500 marijuana plants.

Heidi and Suzy, thank you for teaching us about the sheep. I, too, thought all sheep had wool. I never really thought about it, but I guess it's similar to dogs: some have fur and some have hair.

Thank you Suzy, that is a great sitrep site.
Our neighbour who works in the lo0cal bank called earlier and asked if we could smell smoke. A customer had come in saying there was a fire on one of the roads that runs out of Cockatoo. Couldn't smell anything or see any smoke. I looked at that site and there is one listed in Nangana which is not too far from here but it was listed as small and safe at 1.30 this arvo.

I agree, I think that we have definitely had our share of sad luck. They say they come in threes and we've had ours!
Have tried ringing sis a couple of times but she must be out of her room at the moment. Last msg I got said poss home tomorrow if infection under control.
Son is doing ok, He started back at work this week as well and hubby says the swelling has gone down. Poor kid though, the lip got sunburned and also covered in coldsores, so I think he's just about had enough!

June, I think the best advice I ever got about what to take was from someone who had lost their home in the Ash Wednesday fires of many years ago. She said they were able to get a few things out but the thing she missed the most where her own undies! She said you could cope with just about everything else borrowed and donated, but not having your own underwear was one of the most depressing things!!!

Gail - hope you are a long way from any danger area! Fingers crossed that fire is quickly under control.
The wind here is very fierce - nearly lost the washing while I was hanging it out, and it's probably dry already. I've just noticed that the repairs to our back fence are very dodgy! One side is now flapping in the gale - Rob will have to fix it before it blows away! (I'd do it myself, but I have learnt, over the years, that even though I am capable of doing man's work, I am not capable of doing it RIGHT!)

I succumbed! I swore I wouldn't and I did! I bought the kids a PS2 (only a 2nd hand one, does that mean I only half gave in?)
I've been told over and over again it will be great for the girls' singing.

Suzy, we all succumb at some stage! All our high-minded principles crumble in the face of those wide, sad eyes, those trembling lips, those plaintive voices, "Mum! Everybody else has one! We're not living in the Dark Ages you know! SO unfair!"

Hehe Judy,
They actually haven't done that. It was too hard to argue with all my very logical reasons! And they don't know yet that I've bought it. I got a text from a friend that it was there, talked to hubby and picked it up. It's sitting in the back room. I figure I'll let hubby be the good guy...
It took me about 5 tries to get back to the page. White Pages of Doom all over the place! And I had been just about to say that I've only had one on someone's page, not here. See, you shouldn't even think these things, let alone write them down!!

Third time lucky? Ok Suzy, trying again - White page of Doom for me too! I was just saying that our power cut out before - happens a lot, very annoying. The safety switch just turns everything off. Worst is when we're just getting into bed, and we have to traipse around in the dark in our PJs!

Nola, tell hubby that the trees are helping in the fight against global warming.
Vici, hope your back is doing better.
Julie, I found 2 things that will help with dry winter hands. The easiest one is Vaseline Healthy Hand Essentials. The other is smear cold cream on them before going to bed and wear cotton gloves. This last one a friend uses because her fingers will split and bleed.

Julie, you poor thing - 2 hours, no wonder you're tired! Hope you sleep well. :)
Suzy - our kids have always had lots of computer games, right back to when we had the Commodore 64. Rob's really into computer stuff! But we seem to have avoided the PS - probably a good thing, don't know how well the kids would play together - they have very different personalities.

June, how's Ken doing? Hope his cough is getting better and that whatever he has you don't get it.
Your story about the little boy reminded me of one here. A guy was hunting and left his dog at home. The dog "dialed" 911 and the cops broke into the house and found a marijuana "factory" in his basement (grow lights and watering system).
Heidi, sorry to hear about the loss of animals, especially the cow.

Gail, sending get well thoughts to your sister. A friend had hers removed a few years back and I was amazed how little the scar is (2.5 cm). Stay safe.
Judy, got a chuckle about the screen. Was thinking that maybe you could tie the fence back together with a rope. Quick and easy.
Suzy, me thinks that you'll be playing on that, too. Know I would.
