Hi, Everyone!
June, congratulations to you and your bowls team! I'm glad they arranged for you to share in the honor! I hope the cortisone shots will help as you wait for your pain clinic appointment. Hopefully the dizziness will decrease.
Heidi, I'm glad to hear that the drive to Florida was uneventful. I hope you'll be bringing home a pregnant Whimsey! Keeping fingers crossed!
Mama, it's good to know that you aren't being troubled by all the symptoms you had previously mentioned, though headaches can be extremely debilitating by themselves. I'm glad reading is such a pleasure for you!
MizT, you are one busy lady! I'm glad you know when to take breaks and pace yourself. Hopefully the other residents will enjoy all of the 'fruits' of you labor with many beautiful flowers during the summer!
Midge, how wonderful that you can share watching Game of Thrones with your son! Though I haven't seen it, I've heard that a bit of swearing may not be the only thing your husband might object to.
Brenda and MizT, good question about AI and all the work Heidi must go to for Whimsey to be bred naturally. I'm sure there's a good reason!
Broni, you caught my typo (which I hadn't seen until I came to the site tonight to try to find my last post. I guess I was more tired than I thought when I was typing that comment. I hope all is going well at work and hopefully the witchy woman from work will no longer be an annoyance/troublemaker!
Happy Birthday
to Bean!
Have a wonderful day!
Thinking of Suzy and family and hoping all is well!
Nola, I hope you haven't lost any posts recently! Take care!
My brain is fried. I can't remember who has posted recently or whose posts we are missing. You are all kept in a special place in my heart. {{{{{HUGS & JUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts, prayers, healing vibes, and

I'm sorry I didn't call MizT before leaving for home. I had too much on my mind. The stallion we were breeding Whimsey to is old. Very old. This will be one of his last foals. He has gotten really thin in the last year, since he lost all of his teeth, and doesn't have the strength or stamina to breed naturally. We tried. The Vet had to do a live collection and immediately inseminate her. Once on Wednesday, once on Thursday. Yes, I could have had frozen semen shipped to me to do AI, but I've had such poor luck with the frozen stuff in the past that I didn't want to risk it. (15 attempts, 1 baby) Plus, this gives me the chance to go to this wonderful Vanner farm and see some of the greatest horses in the world. And talk to some delightful people.
Well, back to sleep.

Heidi, I hope the old stallion still has viable sperm, and the breeding was a success. So you did get back in time to work the cattle on Friday? Or did you sleep the day and put that off till later? I am almost certain that Gil did not go ahead with it without you.
I just got a box of fall clothing from my daughter. She is cleaning out her closets and getting rid of things. she tried having a garage sale, almost no one showed up, and on one bought anything. I imagine they thought the $5 price tag to high, but for Jeans that cost over $100, and shirts that were original $75? I really like a couple of the sweaters, one with sequins, one cotton and long sleeve V neck. One of the blouses I can wear now, it is 3/4 sleeves, but a thin flowing fabric. I think I have pants to go with, I know it will go with jeans, always an option.
It is time to make some dinner, not sure what I will have tonight. I could have soup and sandwich, or the left over steak, or cook some salmon patties. Decisions, decisions.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

Yes, it is viable. They just used him a couple of weeks ago on a mare going to New Zealand, and the Vet just confirmed her as pregnant. If anybody has seen the second Hobbit movie, they'll have noticed the Gypsy Vanner horses used in it. Several of them came from the farm I was just visiting. This mare that was just confirmed pregnant is going to the same place. They want Cushti Bok genes, too. (Cushti Bok is Romany for Good Luck).
I got back a little after 5 am. IH had arranged for the cattle to be worked starting at 9 am. The Vet and his intern showed up before 10 am. I slept through it. If there had been a serious problem, though, they could have woken me up. But there were a lot of helpers that knew what they were doing. IH didn't mess up anything that couldn't be fixed.

Heidi, how long before you will know if Whimsy is pregnant? Hoping that she is and you know shortly. I am amazed that Gil actually organized the working of the cattle, and happy for you that he did not mess up anything that could not be fixed {smile}
Madge, good to see you. I have not seen Game of thorns, but if you say it can be embarrassing, I believe you.
Suzy, just how fast is that wind roaring? I did not know your house was two story, I imagined it on one level, but your saying going 'sown to your office' leaves me to think two story.
I am off in less than an hour to a crawfish boil. One of the Episcopal churches that participated in our fund raiser, the Gumbo Gala, is sponsering this . Staff thought it would be good if some of us showed up to support thier fund raiser, and EP is paying our admission! Al taught me to eat crawfish, there was once a big crawfish biol festival nearby, not sure if it still is. I hope we have fun and do not stay too long. I also hope for some shade, but am taking a hat in case. Today should be mild, mid 70's, but in the sun that can be warm. I need to load up something to drink that I can have. To many times sugar free, caffeine free is not available. I have learned to provide my own. I will take singles to go, the koolaide for grownups that comes just enough a pack to add to a water bottle, if they have water available, and most events do have water available now.

It's possible to know quite soon after the pregnancy, something like 2 weeks.... faster if we do blood tests. But I'm gonna wait a month before having her checked, to minimize stressing her any more. She just had a rough few days andI want her to relax.
Anybody watch the Kentucky Derby? It was a very exciting race. It's always fun when a dominant horse (California Chrome), with a small trainer, blows them away.

Oh, had so much fun yesterday! Wonderful day, blue skies, a nice breeze, and yes, they had LOTS of shade! Tables set up under those pop up umbrella tents, they must have had 40 of them! I passed on the crawfish, you had to choose between crawfish and shrimp and shrimp always win! It was so delish, I bought a take away serving for my dinner tonight! Yuuummm.
Not a lot else going on, I am being very low key today. Might even go back for a nap, but it is another lovely day, decisions, decisions.

I FINALLY got started on mowing the hayfield I laughingly call a lawn. Half is now done, and I'll finish tomorrow after taking my friend Debbie to an eye appointment (she has to have the eyes dilated, and isn't allowed to drive home). I decided to take a half hour break after mowing half the lawn, and I fell asleep for 5 hours. Oh, well.
I've never had crawfish, MizT, but I suspect that it would taste very much like shrimp. I'm talking about the kind raised in farm ponds, not the ones harvested out of the ocean. Does it?

Yes, I think crayfish tastes like shrimp, but the times I ate it, it was so highly seasoned and so hot, first bite singed my taste buds. Memory of the taste is isolated to that nano second before the spice hit. I have a rather sensitive, wimpy mouth, and hot seasonings become a super nova to me.
I checked on the plants out by the alley, new garden. Some of them were very dry. I tried bringing up the hose from beside the maintenance door, but it was not long enough. OK, if I turn it on at the hose bib and off at the nozzle, I can fill my watering can from it, would be closer. I turned it on, someone distracted me a bit, we talked less than a minuet and when I turned around, water was spraying up, washing one residents auto for them! That idea did not work, I recoiled the hose and filled my watering can from the front, where it was in the shade and did not smell of dumpster. since I wold have to use my chair to transport from either location, might as well pick the more comfy one, eh?
I went around to the back patio garden after watering everything by watering can out front, and I turned on the soaker hose. Patty, Loraine's daughter, had connected it for us, but had not checked it. Today was the first day I needed it, we have had a few days without rain and a LOT of wind. Wind dries out plants quickly, they need more water. As soon as I turned on the water, a 15 feet high geyser shot up right beside the connection, the soaker hose had split. I tried to water the one portion of the impatiens that gets more sun by repositioning that gushing water hose. I think I got them watered, but I certainly watered myself! Impatiens will tolerate sun if it gets enough water, and these were suffering, beginning to droop, I could not just leave them till later.
Now I must find a replacement soaker. I went to my Lowes online site, and they only had one soaker listed. All 8 of the reviews were terrible, saying the hose would split, some people experienced this first time they used it, others in just days or weeks. Huumm, if the store is still selling that same soaker hose, I do not need it. I found one that seemed to be better at another site, Miracle grow name on it, and good reviews. A closer look showed that the reviews were by persons given the product free, in exchange for a review, probably for a GOOD review. What to do now?
Coming back through the air conditioned building to get to my apartment, with only a very few dry threads in my clothing, I got chilled. Of course, that made the fibro ache, so back to bed in my warm robe and my good warm blanket for a while. Good thing I had decided not to nap before going outside
. I am spending to much time napping. I had hoped the sleepiness from the new meds would go away by now, seems it has not.
Tomorrow we have a Cinco de Mayo party, might go down a while for that, or might go hunting a soaker hose in person! We will see.
That is all from here, water water everywhere but none whe

A quick post to say hello. I've been sleeping most of today, recouping after celebrating at our annual Cinco de Mayo /birthday celebration of my niece, and trying to see who won the championship fight that was tinged with controversy due to some fb postings by one of the fighters. Since I am not a big fight fan, I was interested only due to the postings. I wanted to see the Derby, but too much was going on so this was an unusual miss for me. All in all a busy weekend and not a whole lot of sleep resulted into todays collapse I guess. I had comments when I read, but am dealing with a headache at the moment and think I will get back to bed. I hope to come back later. BTW, my granddaughter was tickled pink that so many of you either liked the crazy photo of me or made a comment...Lol. Take care everyone...I care. Peace.

We just did our taxes for the last financial year. We thought we'd have a tax bill because hubby forgot to change his number of dependants when I asked him to, but ended up with a small refund. What a relief! Hubby went to work trying to work out how to juggle accounts etc to pay a tax bill and came home with a shopping list of things he'd like instead. Well 2 things, and both things that benefit all of us...

Another lovely time in the garden with the flowers today. I went out earlier than usual, glad i did cause it got hot later. The morning was perfect, warm, sunny, windy, and I was in the shade most of the time I was out.
We were called down to the office to get new building electronic keys. It seems we are getting new access scanners, and they started today passing out keys to all residents. It will take them several days to reach everyone, I am sure. 'Use old key till we tell you to stop'. The front door beside the office is open 8-5 any business day, weekends and holidays we need a key to access that door, need key every day for building 2 door and patio door.
While I was downstairs, I decided to pull that 50 foot soaker hose that malfunctioned yesterday. It was too cumbersome to take out through the building, so I tossed it over the brick wall separating garden from parking lot, very near to where dumpster (for trash) is located. Then I drove around and got it rest of way to dumpster.
Watered the impatiens in patio garden that had not had enough water yesterday, (remember I got wet and had to stop?) the ones in the sun, and watered hydrangeas that looked a bit droopy. this huge maple leaf hydrangea is full of buds, I do want it to bloom! this is the native hydrangea, with long graceful white blooms. Bush is taller than me and several feet around. It got a watering from the hose spray. To make sure it had enough, I filled watering can a couple of times and gave it about 3 gallons of water.
As hoses are set up now, I have to walk out of garden into a little used area that is uneven and covered in slippery pine straw. I am thinking of reconfiguring hoses so that the on/off is closer to flowers. I need to find a 3 or 4 part manifold, instead of the Y connector now used with one hose, located more conviently. I can do away with one hose, not have to go into that slippery area I saw those manifolds recently but cannot remember where. Walmart is a good guess.
I carried water via watering can to water the alley/driveway garden again, so windy and the young plants are wilting in the heat. Need to find some way to get a hose out there soon.
After I came in, had lunch, my body started screaming at me, meds not relieving it. I guess from overwork.pulling at the hose was too much today. Sometimes you do not know what is too much till AFTERWARDS, that sucks.
Thank you for the comments and 'likes' on the FB photo from the crayfish boil. Heidi, I wonder if you can get straight to that FB page with the link? We can try!!

It was started by young upwardly mobile residents of the Highland Avenue communities. Highland is a historical neighborhood, and many young couples have bought and remodeled, saved the wonderful old architecture here. Highland is a winding divided street with plantings in the median, and very close to Southside business district and the UNIVERSITY of Alabama in Birmingham, all the hospitals and medical centers here. The parade begins and ends next door at Cauldwell park. I do hope they can get the 3 trees that fell a week ago removed before then. Did I even tell you that trees fell less than 2 blocks from my apartment? a total of 5 or 6. This was about the time I was out in the hallway. Not sure if it was straight line winds or a small F0 or F1 tornado that briefly touched down. Do not feel a bit silly now for being out in the hallway when that storm came through!!
OK,this is already to long,so I shall post before loosing it. I will leave hugs for each of you, with extras. Hope you are having a great maEn!

MizT, could some of the harder to access plants survive with the old plastic bottle turned upside down in the soil filled with water?
Went back to the Vets yesterday and I have very reluctantly agreed to have her put under anaesthetic to have this lump removed from her back. That will be on my Thursday and I can take her home that evening and care for her for three days. Not guaranteeing I will make a lot of sense until that time.
