In answer to your question, I honestly don't really understand the proofs that the 'geniuses' post, but I believe the grid is letters from left to right and numbers from the bottom to the top and the coordinates represent each square on the grid. Hope this helps and sorry I could not be of any more use.
The place to ask would be on the tough puzzle, they are only too happy to help, or in the Forums section, there is a place where you can ask all sorts of technique questions.

Believe me, they get used to us having these late nights! It's been a real turn around in this household. He was the pooter geek who used to stay up till all hours. Since discovering this site, it is now me who stays up till 12.44 as it turns out!
I used to hate computers and was dead against the internet thingy!

We were not ignoring you, but had been so concerned about our friend Win who went through that terrible cyclone in Myanmar/Burma. Not knowing how long she could get a computer signal, we were concentrating on her. Come join us again and sit in the corner and read, chat when you can. Weekends about same time is a good time to check out chat. Just remember, if someone tells you to DOT, type in and send something, fore you time out!
