Hello everyone!  Welcome to my page.

Dwellingup is a small town just under 100 kms South West of Perth City.  It's a beautiful spot, but unfortunately we were badly affected by the bushfires in February 2007.  Still rebuilding after the devastation.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes for our recovery Smile  We can't wait to re-open our Chalets and welcome guests (and their four legged kids) again Laughing

UPDATE:   Finally finished the rebuilding and refurbishing - took almost two darn years and probably 12 months longer than it should, but we've done it.  Thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts along the way.

Hello Jude - to the wonderful world of sudoku and your own special page. I see you haven't wasted time in decorating it, well done!
I always leave new members with a bottle of our local Wignall's Late Harvest but you're probably very familiar with it being a local yourself.

Have you been visiting the site for long? Feel free to visit my page anytime.

Jude - did you have anything left after the fire? You have some beautiful photos of your place before the fire, how devastating to lose so much of it.
I remember the Dwellingup fire of many years ago when lives were lost.

Hi there Anne - have visited your page and there are some great photos there. I've been lurking here for some time, and finally got around to making up this page.

The fires were devastating - last big fire was early 1960s. Lucky we have our house which was virtually unscathed. The township didn't suffer at all (wind change?), but we are 5kms on the Pinjarra side.

PS Thanks for the wine...much appreciated!!!

JUDE,

how nice to see you posting in Sudokuland! Welcome to the board and thank you for showing us your beautiful lake before the fires. Oh what a tradegy for such a lovely establishment to be lost! I also wonder was anything saved?? Will you build again? Did all your pets survive? I know sometimes it is hard to capture pets for an evacuation, they smell smoke and they panic.

Hello Miz Tricia1 - thank you for your welcome. We managed to save our house, so have the proverbial "roof over our head"! All of our pets didn't survive tragically, but our dogs and the donkeys are now OK, thank goodness. We are rebuilding but looks like it will be 12 months before we can re-open.

JUDE, I left a little note in your sudoku INBOX, click in the top right corner to find this feature.

Ahhh, to bad all the pets did not survive, that is very sad, but so happy the dogs and donkey escaped harm. Building any time is difficult, but after any disaster, when so many people are rebuilding in one area, it is really difficult. Everyone competing for the same tradesmen and materials, never enough to go around, and if you have to deal with building inspectors, well, never enugh of those, so you wait and wait. As you make progress with the rebuilding, we would like to see and cheer with you! Wishing you good luck with the rebuild!

Just stopped by to add my to you, Jude. I am so sorry for your losses due to the brush fires. What a beautiful area you live in! I know it will be again. If you need a little support as you rebuild, let us know! And let us know what progress is being made.
I'm leaving a pot of Maryland Cream of Crab soup for you. I live on the East Coast of the U.S., very near the Chesapeake Bay so blue crabs in this area are plentiful. Stop by my place for a visit, door's always open

Hey Jude! THank you for your visit - I am so happy that you also stopped smoking - I think it is one of the most difficult addictions to "kick". Well done! The photograph of the "big hole" is in Kimberley and is famous for the Big Hole, which is often called the worlds deepest man made hole. Kimberley is the place where diamonds were found in 1871. The Big Hole is a huge pit, almost circular and 215m deep, right in the middle of the town. It is not an active mine and is now a big tourist attraction. I leave a big bunch of Protea flowers for you, our national flower! Take care

I'm back again - I hate bushfires! I am so sorry to see all the damage to your lovely farm. What a job it must have been to fix everything up again! In our country, some people deliberately start these devastating fires. We tragically lost my dear brother and his wife in a bushfire three years ago, so you can understand why I feel so strongly about it. Good luck with rebuilding and constructing! Take care

Jude, returning your visit. You must be feeling for the people in California with their fires. We're being warned by the CFA here to be prepared for a hot summer. Sandy Point is a little village tucked in amongst lots of ti-tree which makes excellent wood for the winter hearth, and therefore dangerous in bushfires. Its a long time since I've been to WA. I love the beaches and the waves rolling in all the way from Africa!
Am leaving some pancakes and lemons for you... I made them to soothe my sore throat!... and some CHOCOLATE!

Hey Jude...love your name...Its the Beatles thing of course...one of my favorite songs. Thanks so much for your visit, I'm always happy to meet the new folks. I have enjoyed your picture gallery, and the doggies are beautiful...but I'd love to hear more about those great looking kids too. I see from your pictures that you can relate to the fire situation in California...Your home pre bush fires was sooo beautiful and serene...how are you currently coming along with the rebuilding process? ...were all of the animals safe? So many questions,,,but it lends its self to more visits. I will gift you with a basket of goodies that make Philadelphia famous...cheese steak sandwiches, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, soft pretzels, Twinkies and Franks Orange Soda to wash it all down. Hope you enjoy! Peace. Please come around anytime.
