Thanks for your comments about my son's batting. He has been playing ball for about 36 years and had 6 weeks training in Georgia Southern University in Statsboro when he was 16. Quite a few of the top Aussie kids used to get selected to go there when they were about that age.
Had a look your wonderful photos that I had not seen before. I would love to get to South America. It is on the list. We are off to Egypt and Jordan next Feb.

I really am pleased you like the two poems I posted yesterday – especially the second one (The Four Apostles of Nature; 25/10/09; p.1; 2.40am). Thanks for you comment. As background - in May 1994 I was hospitalized in Yorkshire from a heart attack, and immediately after that was under strict doctor’s orders to take daily walks. By then it was Autumn. In November 1994 my experiences from ‘bounding along’ through woodlands led to that poem. It is poetic prose and does not rhyme, but when it is read aloud properly it has a dramatically strict rhythm. Now I am bewildered as to how I achieved that. As you must have noticed there is a pair of three-line stanzas for each season. The first of each pair is a general statement about the related season, and each second stanza is an illustration – describing a detail pertaining to the season. I agree with you about Autumn being the best month, and the two stanzas there about Autumn are among the best I have written before or since. I think that was the first time I ever ‘transferred between perceptions’ – that time by relating the word “fanfare” (usually taken as sound) to kaleidoscopic colour (perceived by sight), and I think it is an apt application of the poetic strategy. That is why I appreciate your comment - because you have endorsed my own feelings about that and demonstrate that I ‘got the message across’.

We repainted our dining room last weekend--it's black, and we love it. Of course, that meant buying a new rug, and finally, having window treatments for the room after twenty-three years! (And since the new dining room rug made the one in the living room look shabby, we had to spring for a new one in there as well).

Kathy, I got such a chuckle out of your story about the new lamps ... I told my fella: see? we're not the only ones! And I concur 100% about wallpaper; it's beautiful, but expensive and taking it off is the worst job. (Never mind all the years of staring at it while the pesky seams begin to peel back ...) Anyway, it's always nice sharing (mis)adventures with you! Have a great weekend!

Thank you Kathy, for the happy and bright welcome. I "moved in" about 2 months ago. I'm usually quiet. I have been playing the Sudoku here for a couple of years though. I can always get the easy, med and hard, but not always the tough. Sitting by window looking out at newly fallen snow, a foot and still falling... Now to get started on today's puzzles.
