Hi Jane! Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Believe it or not, my kids once gave me a t-shirt that proclaimed "DON'T BOTHER ME! I'M CRABBY! They thought it was very appropriate!

Thanks once again Jane for all the trouble you have gone to with the receep book. It makes it so much easier to locate just the right recipe without having to wade through the pages.

Jane - great job on the Recipe Book.

Glad you caught that I left something off the Pinepapple Pie Recipe. These 2 paragarphs were missed when I submitted it.

Spread the cooked pineapple mixture on unbaked pastry shell. Pour cream cheese mixture on top and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Bake in a hot oven 400° for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for an additional 50 minutes. Cool before serving.

The Noodle Kugel Recipe was from my husband's great aunt. Serve it with Short Ribs & Wine Sauce. I have prepared it for years. One time (many years ago) a Jewish friend said she was surprised that it wasn't sweet. The way her family served it was much sweeter with raisins and used as a dessert. Hense the two recipes.

You did a great job on duel recipes for Jam-popit & Napoleons. Please give the puff pastry a try - it is amazing how easy it is & fluffy the pastry.

for all your work. I too have been involved (more than once) in creating a cook book for organizations.

Dear Jane:
I am very sorry for the belated answer to your last post regarding the Microwave recipes. I wanted to send you a recipe in a private message but was rejected because it has more than 100 words. I do not want to have it in an open post in your page, therefore I would like to have your e-mail to send it in a more private way. Mine is jara@uniweb.net.co

Jane, where are you??? Seems I have not seen any posts on Easy from you lately, although I may have just missed them during my nine days in Orlando babysitting. Hope all is well with you, Jaime, & Twinky. Do you have special plans for Easter? Bet you are looking forward to the tournament at Amelia Island! Will you be going with a bunch of other St. Simon's tennis fans?

Jane - another change for the Cookbook. On my Pineapple Pie recipe, the last 2 paragraphs were missing:

Spread the cooked pineapple mixture on unbaked pastry shell. Pour cream cheese mixture on top and sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Bake in a hot oven 400° for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for an additional 50 minutes. Cool before serving.

Jacksonville, OR history is not quite as long. It can be found: http://www.jacksonvilleoregon.org/history.html

Lewis & Clark were the first to travel across the country and winter in Oregon 1804-5 - however this was along the Columbia River (Oregon's northern border). From around 1823's fur-traders traveled in Oregon. In 1839 the Peoria Party with the motto "OREGON OR DEATH" settled in the fertile Willamette Valley. The first organized trip on what would be come the Oregon Trail was in 1841/2. Other routes split off the trail - Mormon Trail, Calif. Trail. In 1843 "Free Land" brought the great migration of pioneers & a provincial government.

In 1846 a safer route was established to the Willamette Valley - The Applegate Trail - (which cut off the Calif. Trail). In 1848 the Oregon Territory was recognized & the following year Gold was discovered in Sutter Creek California. The Gold Rush was on.

In 1851 Gold was discovered in what is now Jacksonville and the Gold seekers came here, some moved on - others stayed to make a life. We do know that there was a large Chinese population within the first early settlers - some seeking gold, others providing services. A few years ago, underground, in an excavation - remnants were found of the part they played in the early community.

More recently, in this century, 3 multi-million lottery tickets have been sold in Jacksonville. One for $304 million - they bought the "Nunan House" and are turning it into a Bed & Breakfast.

Current population is around 2,500 - probably less than the peak population during the Gold Rush tent days.

I love History. In 1968 in Munich, we were visiting the Nymphenburgschloss, there was a painting of a beautiful woman in the study. I learned that it was a portrait of Lola Montez, Ludwig's love. She spent so much money that he lost the Bavarian Throne and they escaped with their lives.

Several years later, we were doing a tour or Calif. Route 49 (named after the 49'ers - those who came to find gold after the discovery at Sutter's Mill in 1849). We stayed at the National Hotel in Nevada City (was the oldest continually operating hotel west of the Mississippi). We stopped at a lapidary shop and he gave us the name of someone at the bank to see. They opened the vault and showed us some of the old nuggets that were mined in the area. On our walk back to the hotel, we passed a home with a sign on it, stating that it was Lola Montez's home. She had been a Madam in San Francisco and moved her business to Nevada City, closer to the miners and their business needs.

I wondered if the Lola Montez from Bavaria was the same as the SF Madam and did a little research. She definitely was. But there was more.

She got her start as a Spanish Dancer, famous for her Tarantella Dance. However, she wasn't Spanish and had assumed the name. She was born in Ireland (who her father was is questionable), but her mother took her to Spain. Before her involvement with Ludwig, there were many other famous people of the era, she was involved with.

After the mines started to play out in Calif and Gold was discovered in Australia, she moved there and "helped out" the Ozzie miners. She ended up in New York pennyless.

In college while taking a Spanish course, I had to give a speech - Lola Montez's life was my speech.

PS: I didn't go to college, until after my husband graduated from college - we both worked full time and went to college at night - first him, then me. First 20 years of our marriage, we hardly saw each other. No wonder the marriage worked. If he had not died at 56, we would have been married 47 years this June. I was 17 when we married.

If you scroll down to the Mulvane, Ks. tornado pics, that is what was occuring three miles away at nearly the same time my #2 son and new dil were saying their I do's. A few moments later, the sirens sounded. I ordered a 16 X 20 copy of the first ropy one with the rainbow for them as a 1st anniversary surprise.

Jane - my local computer tech company managed to get some files off the drive, before they declared it dead - the disc would no longer spin (rotate or whatever you call it). They said it would have to be opened, requiring it to be sent to a company that does that sort of data recovery [requires special equipment (clean room)to open & work on]. You can give your guy a call & see if this sounds right. I've talked to a place in Denver & another in Minneapolis today - $800-$2000 to do. They said that some guys from Geek Squad had opened a disc and really made it much harder to recover the data, some could not be recovered because of their "recovery effort".

Hi, Jane! I'm planning to, nope, already bought the tickets, going to visit my son in North Carolina. I plan to take my grandson with me to Florida to visit my BIL and his wife. Thought I could see you and Kathy for a lunch, say in Orlando(?). My treat! Hey the company (meaning me) may pale next to a free lunch but we'll find something to liven it up.
