Hi, it's me. I got your message. I was a teenager living in Canada during the time of Kent State. The images of the televised news and the newspaper photos will stay with me forever. All young people at that time, no matter where they lived, were shocked that the military could walk in and start shooting on a university campus. I was a bit of a hippy who believed in love and peace and was totally against the Vietnam war, but was a bit too young to be involved in any demonstrations, etc. To this day I can't believe something like that happened.

I will never forget that day either. and, yes, I was shocked that it happened. since I lived there I know there were things the news media never reported... (so what else is new) I agree the N. G. should never had shot them.. tear gas pehaps. One item is that, the National Guardsmen were no older than the people who were the demonstratior. Not seasoned veterans of such riots. And, Notice I didn't say "students". Many of the demonstrators were there to cause trouble.. were not students at the school. I was 23 at the time. I had two kids, one husband and a house to run. I agree (d) the US didn't belong in Vietnam. I don't think we should have gone into Iraq " either. Just my opinion, and even for all of that, I agree with Jerry about the US policy of guns. Perhaps in the US they are a necessary evil. And, I see nothing wrong with responsible hunting. We have an abundance of wild life in TN and rural US. We do not live in a peaceful world where everyone loves everyone and no one would do anyone any harm. Pity, but true.

If you have a recipe for a orange and almond cake where you boil the oranges for about an hour then cool and blitz in the food processor then you can substitute the same weight in mandarins. I will post my recipe if you would like it as it is a great gluten free cake. Yummy with a little yoghurt as the tangyness is a little better suited than whipped cream would be.

It is important to remember to cut the mandarins in half and remove the seeds before you blitz them. The Mandarins only need about 45 minutes boiling. I am off to bed now but let me know if you want the exact recipe and I will send it in the morning. I am also reasonably good at translating recipes into american. Have a great day.

Since I don't drink tea, I brought my own Dr. Pepper (Diet) & some homemade cranberry bread for you to put on the table.

Locally we have "access" (pantry) centers where the needy can get food for their families. For Christmas, the ladies of the church each prepare a bag for 2-4 and/or 5-7 family members of canned & dry goods of all the trimming needed for a complete Christmas dinner (yams, pumpkin, green beans, mushroom soup, stuffing mix, corn bread mix, etc. (no perishables). I usually put in a recipie for something special & bag of spices. The center gives them a frozen turkey along with the bag. Sometimes I add a little gift & note the sex & age of the special gift included. Of course there are centers that serve a Holiday meal - but these bags are for those that want to have a private Thanksgiving with their families.
