Cyn, I love some of the shares and find them funny/interesting/educational/entertaining... I only object to politics and pseudo science. I think this election is going to be extra bad as with all the US election news (and posts) we had we haven't had a long enough break since the last campaign...

I'm back. The day was good, bad, nightmarish and wonderful. The nightmarish part was getting there. I was the first of the 5 of us to start driving, and I left the house as it was starting to snow. I got to Donna's house and the snow was coming down hard, but the roads were still clear. As we were halfway to Anita's house, the roads became dangerous. We considered turning around and quitting at that point, but my truck has new tires and new brakes, so I felt confident that we could make it to Anita's, which we did. We then collected Cindy and piled into Anita's 4WD truck with new tires. From there we had a 1 1/2 hour drive to the Horse Park over an icy interstate, with 6 -8 wrecks per mile, over a 50 mile stretch, some serious. We were some of the few that made it to the Horse Park. To save us an extra hour of driving time, Karen met us at the Park. Half of the staff running the event couldn't get there. Half of the people doing the demonstrations or teaching the classes couldn't get there. The same went for the vendors. But the staff scrambled and were able to put on a very fun program.
By late afternoon, it had warmed up enough outside that the ice on the roads had melted, so we decided to stay for the concert. Not many people did stay. I would guesstimate that less than 50 stayed in the large stadium. The warm up band, an unknown group, was excellent. But the headliner, a country/western singer (my friends liked him, I didn't) named John Michael Montgomery, got drunk before he went on stage and was awful. He continued to drink beer on stage! We all considered walking out on him. My friends are no longer fans.
The drive home was fun, though. Clear roads and we were all laughing out heads off over this, that, and what a fool Montgomery made of himself.

Greetings, Everyone!

Heidi, I hope you had a great day with friends!

MizT, so sorry to hear about your sister's tummy bug. Certainly hope she will be100% soon!

Cyn, what a great idea to start a 'Cousins' page on Facebook!

Cyn and Suzy, I have also had to block some people from my facebook page and have a former classmate who is very opinionated and political. I 'hide' about 3/4 of her posts.

Nola, I hope all is going well and everyone's spirits are positive as clean up begins/continues! {{{HUGS}}}

Heidi, I'm glad you could find some good amid the less-than-ideal circumstances of the day!

{{{{{{ H U G S }}}}}}, prayers, positive thoughts and healing vibes for everyone!

Gekko my friends.

I woke up this morning to a thick coating of snow that wasn't here when I went to bed. IH woke me up to tell me that the first calf of 2013 had been born, and he didn't know where the ear tags were. He wouldn't stop ordering me to get out of bed until I did. He then told me that the calf had been abandoned by it's mother, and the only cow anywhere near it was #789. We have no cow #789. So I bundled up and went out. The calf (a bull) was in the shed WITH it's mother, #189 (an experienced cow), who was very attentive to her baby. So I tagged it. The calf was born a week early, but that's not a problem. I just wasn't ready for it yet.

Heidi, congrats on the first calf of 2013. I am glad the Mom was taking care of it, and not a bit surprised Gil did not know. Sorry you had to climb out of a nice warm bed to go check it out though.

Morning all,
June, I don't have any emails from you so so far all good. When I checked my spam folder I had one for viagra, I haven't had one of those for years! Most of my spam is trying to get me to play poker. I've never played it online so I'm not sure where that one comes from.

I hope you have a lovely, relaxing time in Armidale.

Heidi, your day out sounds exhausting but fun. The company must have been good for all of you to stick it out. Congrats on your first calf.

Today I have to make several phone calls. I'm not good at that, I tend to avoid them if I can.

Have a good time away June, you always deserve your breaks.
Suzy, hopefully making the phone calls will help with your speech. I tend not to spend much time on the phone except when talking to my aunt, then we can chat for more than an hour.
We have just finished watching Harry Potter in 3D on the new TV. I had seen it before but didn't actually remember it very well.
We are not a very healthy household at the moment. All apart from Elaine are suffering a flu like illness, Elaine started it off on New Years Eve and she is ok now apart from the cough.
Celia came out of hospital on Friday, but I haven't been able to go to see her because of this bug. Emily couldn't go into work tonight and Richard doesn't think he will be going in tomorrow.

No calves born last night.
Calving was supposed to start on Feb. 10th, but they can deliver full term calves up to 10 days early.

It's cold outside, but not quite cold enough to freeze all the mud solid. Most of it just has a thin crust of hard stuff on top, which I break through with my considerable weight.

Hello everyone.
As most of us have done, I just lost a long post!
All ok here,just stressed.
Roads are now open and the clean up has begun over north, which was effected the most. A house, is still in the middle of a round-about.
It could be ages before insurance assessors and electricians get around the 2000 homes effected. Each home flooded, has to have an electrician, check and repair before the power can be turned back on.
Thousands are still living in temporary accommodation which must be a little bit more bearable, since the humidity had dropped.
I am so lucky to live 10klms west, near the river but on the high side. Our yard looked like a lake during the torrential rain but it quickly drained.
East Bundaberg School where the boys go to,is the only school that is yet to reopen. Oh, and over north also. The girls started their 1st day yesterday. I hope Renae got some pix of them in school uniform.
I do hope you are all well.
With it being so hot,the only energy I had left after work was to try and reply to some emails.Sorry.
Neighbor having radiation,is wanting to come home, doing well, but misses her puppy and bored.Still has 3 wks to go in Brisbane.
Suzy...how is the rehab going?

Morning all,
Nola, you have a right to be stressed. Just this one thing on it's own is enough, but for you it's one thing on the end of a string of other things... Big hugs and remember to take care of you.

Broni, I'm looking forward to it. I've actually gone 2 days not falling asleep in the middle of the day, which I think means I'm on the mend. I've got special permission from hubby to drive today. Alie needs a guitar string before her gig on Saturday. And he added chicken pellets to my shopping list, wonder if he realised that meant I have to take all the photos out of the car first?

Heidi, like people babies, they are considered full term a week or two (can't remember which) before their due date.

First rehab on Friday. And Alie's first lesson with a new singing teacher next week.

Great to see you are doing so well Suzy. Have been camping a couple of days each week and loving it - work in between time and so busy with a dear friend of 87 who has just moved house last weekend. He was determined to do it all himself but it got too much in the end - 38yrs of stuff to sort out. He has moved into a beautiful (but huge) home with every mod con you could ever ask for. In between all of this 2 days in hospital for treatment - whoopee!! Haven't had time yet to read all of the news but so glad to see that some of you are able to catch up with each other and meet in person. There are some very good friendships amongst the SAers. Wish you well with your babies Heidi - how exciting to see those newbies!

Hello, Friends! Just popping in again, as we'll be up early again. Hubby will be substitute teaching.

I have a favor to ask of all of you. Please pray for a full recovery for Jane, the wife of the teacher for whom he's subbing. Their second baby was due in mid-March. She had been experiencing pain (not baby-related) for a week or so. On Friday, she had a stroke and they had to do a C-section. Baby girl is over 6 pounds and doing well. Jane is 'stable.' Her hubby hasn't said much to the department head, so the assumption is that 'stable' isn't all that positive. Thanks in advance for your prayers!

We have been quite busy with puppy sitting at our house the past two weeks while D is out of the country. (She'll be home this weekend.) I'm also almost a month into a 100-day practice challenge while trying to learn the most difficult piece (for me) so far.

Congratulations to Heidi on 2 calves in 1 day!

Nola, so sorry you lost a post! I don't know how you do it; you have certainly been challenged lately! Sending {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and support to you and your family!

June, I hope you're enjoying yourself and getting some much-needed rest and recuperation!

Suzy, I hope you are feeling well and benefitting from therapy!

Brenda, I hope you and family members are feeling much better!

Broni, I hope all your preplanning will ensure that your trip will go smoothly!

Midge, it's great to 'see' you! I'm glad the camping is going well! Do you have 2 days in hospital every month for treatment?

My bed is calling, and I need to answer. Sending oodles of positive thoughts, healing vibes, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and for all of you!

Julie, sending thoughts, wishes and strength over the cyber waves. Jane has a lot of reasons to recover and I hope that she is aware enough of those reasons to have it help her pull through. I'm so glad the baby is okay...

Can I ask for more info about your practice challenge? I'm intrigued.

Midge, I hope your friend has help in his large house! I hope your treatment was routine and not of the emergency variety..

Gail, I'm guessing you are having a great week!!

Nola...Life is really testing your strength and reserve with all of the challenges that have come your way recently, but you are dealing with them well...just be sure to continue to take care of yourself along the way.

A bad bushfire day coming up here - be safe everyone. And love to everyone cleaning up after the floods ... ♥

Julie - I'll keep Jane in my thoughts. Glad the baby was delivered safely and I hope Jane recovers well for all their sakes.
Hi Judy - I hope you're getting better every day!
Suzy - Back when I learnt to drive, I only used full service fuel stations. It was a rude awakening for me when they all went to self-service and I had to learn to do it myself! I don't think I was alone.
Nola - thinking of you all in Bundy. I posted a link on FB for people to donate directly to the Bundy North School via Paypal. Thought that was a good idea.

Thoughts and prayers to Jane - what a sad start to a new family. Judy - glad to see you are keeping well. Julie - my 2 days in hospital were for standard treatment - anti-body infusions - no resistance to infection. This month it will be for 1 day. Nola - thinking of the mess poor Bundy is in. What a contrast we have - floods, fires, heatwaves and storms - all down the eastern side of Aust. at the same time.Hot day here 37 degreees. One son took Truman to the beach for the night - came back with fur full of sand and most dejected at being home - can't say I blame him!

CynB... I only used full service stations until nearly everybody switched to self service. I didn't like the change because I'd prefer not getting gas on my hands. Plus, having full service stations provides jobs, though low paying ones.
