IH spent last night at his apartment, after spending the day at his plant. He told me that he would definitely be home for supper tonight, so I stewed up a round steak in the last tomatoes from my garden. Just as it was done, he called from the plant to tell me that he was spending another night out there. Why he can't call before I start cooking, I don't know.
It tastes delicious, tho'.

Hi Everyone, I've just caught up on Nola and I'm glad she is ok.
I'm standing at the window with my laptop on the ironing board. The internet connection doesn't always seem to work on the other side of the unit.
I thought for a while that we may need a boat to take us home but it was only rain - not flooding.
Poor old Queensland has been really hit hard in the last week.
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. We just sat and ate and drank - fairly usual for my family - but it was very pleasant.
Kevin came down about 11pm on Boxing day and stayed until yesterday morning. He has to work on New Years Eve but might try to come down so he can go home with me on Saturday.
I must admit that I've not done much. Lazed around, read some books, hit the shops, eaten out, hit the shops, had nanna naps and hit the shops some more. When it's wet there isn't a lot to do except hit the shops. I haven't actually bought much, just wandered around and had coffee.
Keep well all and I'll probably be back when I get home.

I just did something REALLY stupid. Maybe the head cold kept the brain cells from working. I got up on a step stool (the kind with 2 steps) to check on the baby budgies in the higher nest box. They're doing great BTW. Instead of stepping down onto the bottom step, I stepped off. Hit my head hard on the concrete floor. Almost knocked myself out. I now have this enormous lump on my head, and the head and neck hurt like H*LL!!

Greetings and Salutations, Everyone!
We finally have internet service after more than a week without! Oh, how I have missed all of you! I hope the holidays have been good to you! Looks like I have more than 10 pages to read, but it's nearly 1 a.m., so I don't think I'll be doing it now.

Hi Julie, we've missed you.
Can't sleep, don't feel well. My chest feels heavy and achy - I think I've got a chest cold. Yikes - don't want one, don't need one.

I can't sleep either, Theresa. Between the head cold and the egg on my skull... which I believe IS a mild concussion... I'm not sleeping. So I just made up another gallon of a Kool-ade/ fruit concentrate mix that I adore
and will go back to trying to read in a few. I've gotta take plenty of fluids with this bug.

A pharmacist once told me that when the chest is really congested to try and drink as many warm or hot fluids as possible. I've just had two cups of coffee and a glass of warm water - still don't feel any better, but I'm awake!!!

John is coughing worse than ever.
He gave up the smokes for 6 weeks but now back into it with a vengeance.
Went into Target to get some jeans for son for his work and came out with 3 pairs of shoes also that were 40% off.

He is working heaps of shifts at the fish and chip shop now.
Looks like he will be going back to do Year 12 next year.
The second plumber has said he is not putting on an apprentice either.
Cannot guarantee them work.

Has anyone ever done one of those photo books - where they take your selected photos and make them into a coffee table-type book? I have just spent the last few days, particularly most of today, picking out photos of Andrew's life to make into one for his 40th. I still have some to scan that I don't have negatives for. Then I have to sort them chronologically and then cut them down from 100 or so to about 60. That's going to be the hard part!! They're all special to me! I've included some of his father, step-mother and half-siblings. BUT none of his ex!
About their father, my kids hadn't spoken to him in about 8 years (his choice, not theirs) but both kids are now taking steps to reconcile with him again and he is responding positively, which is the right way to go. And the grandies deserve to know their real Grandad. They'll still love their Poppy - hearts can extend to love everyone, can't they?

Heidi, hope your head gets better soon. Are you going to be able to drive to Chattanooga or can you delay it for a few days?
Julie, welcome back.

Good morning friends, a cloudy and warm day in store for Alabama. Temps forecast to near 60 today, mild for December. If I could see the sun, I would be outside enjoying it!
Yesterday I dekooc three dishes. and froze entrees to have next week when we will be out each day. Meat loaf, baked chicken breast and Al's favorite, Hamburger helper, potato stroganoff. Had half of that dish last night, now I have an extra 6 meals main dish in fridge and freezer. Today perhaps i will do spaghetti sauce and calico beans.
Sloshy thing is chugging away, I think I shall hang inside. Without sun, they likely will not dry outside today. Why hang them out, then bring them in to hang again?
OH MY, just had a scare. Loud crash, and I could not tell what or where it came from. A quick look through the house, nothing out of place. Then I heard the washer, off balance and a ratteling sound. Opened the laundry pantry and my large soup pot had shaken off the shelf, landing on the washer, and now was ratteling as the machine spun off balance. Poor hubby, what a way to be awakened this morning. He was a bit grumpy, but I would have been also.
OK, back to hanging clothes, the jeans went on the line since it is low humidity and windy, perhaps they will begin to dry.
Wishing you the best Mean possible today.

The swollen egg on the head has gone down a lot. It's no longer sticking up over an inch... it now has to be felt instead of being visible from across a large room. It still hurts, tho'. And the head cold hasn't let up an iota. Hopefully it will end in time for the drive to Chattanooga in 40 hours.

Wow MizT, it doesn't sound like you've stopped over the last while. It will be nice next week though to have meals prepared when you are so busy. I cooked up a few pounds of hamburg last night - we had spaghetti for supper. Hubby had leftover spaghetti for lunch today. The rest of the hamburg will come in handy for Hamburger Helper, which my hubby likes also. I don't care for it that much - must be a guy thing.
My chest is severely congested. Every time I go upstairs or do anything even a little bit strenuous, my chest aches. Hope it's not a bout of bronchitis coming on. I had high hopes to get a lot of stuff done today, but I think I'll probably be sitting down knitting a lot. I had a three hour nap this morning and then over to help my daughter a little bit. Very little because I was winded from the stairs. I think I can handle forced relaxation.

Heidi, if yours is the head cold that has been going around here, do not count on a 40 hour cure. More like 8 to 10 days and that if you have antibiotics. They are saying this one is bacterial. OH and then, you are still tired and draggy for another week. Are you running a temperature? REALLY sore throat so you do not want to swallow anything? Tummy a bit upset too? Oh I do hope not and do hope you improve soon.
Theresa, hope you get better soon too. Nasty germs going around now.
this year, I thought I was all set for year 7 with no cold or flu, I had flue shot and pneumonia shot, then this unknown bug came along. NOT FAIR! but who said life was fair??
Nola, thanks for the good wishes for Al. We are expecting great things from this combined chemo and radiation. How the induction chemo he has just finished goes is supposed to be indicative of how the combined will go and docs think that went great. Everyone crpss fingers that the new machine at our center is up and calibrated by Monday. He does not want to drive the long drive to the other one.
Heidi, glad the bump on the head is going down, hope it is all gone and no longer hurting by now.
I can almost smell and taste again. I smelled garlic and onions on our hot chicken patty sandwiches I am making for lunch. Hope I can taste them, tired of having sawdust and cardboard to eat. Did you know ir you can not smell, you do not salivate to help get the food chewed? At least I did not!! Lots of tiny sips of water with my meals lately.
Get well wishes to all who are not feeling well, in case I forgot anyone.

MizT.... It, fortunately, isn't THAT cold. I caught it from IH, who had it for a grand total of 3 days. No fever, no sore throat. Just a LOT of head congestion. The bump on the head is STILL hurting like crazy. I cannot touch that side of the head without pain. It's still swollen, but not as much as before.... probably because I applied an ice pack immediately. ..... OK, I couldn't find either of my ice packs.... I applied a bag of frozen beans.

Good morning. Nice to see you here Nola. You have certainly been in every one's thoughts. How did things go with the place your son lives in? I lived on a river that flooded. Our home was up high but we used to watch the river come up and all the destruction.
Nice to see Julie back. We have missed you.
Hope those with colds get well soon.
Just hope everything is working out Al's way and he can have his treatment close to home.
Heidi, that fall is a worry, especially when you are at home alone. At least you had a big lump and not internal pressure.
