Hi Jamie! Sending cyber wishes for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery
My husband had shoulder surgery last year. He has since recovered fully and is very happy with the results. He's pain free for the first time in a looong time
BTW, with his right arm strapped up, he taught himself to use the mouse with his left hand and continues to do so to this day!
Nothing was going to keep him away from the computer. Proves you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

Jamie, Good wishes for your shoulder surgery! I had that Sept. 13, 07. I managed with only aspirin and tylonal after, but the rehab is pretty uncomfortable. That was probably made worse for me since it happened the end of March and I did not know until August that I had torn cartilege and the bicept in the wrong place...out of "groove". I named my Physical Therapist "the princess of torture", but she was very good and encouraging. Is yours going to be arthroscopic? Mine was. I started what I thought would be a top 10 list of why slings s#u#c#k as soon as I got home....but it sort of turned into an encylopedia! Most challenges came from going to the bathroom and showering! When you go back to school, you may want to wear the sling a little longer than neccessary.....your students will be more carefull to not bump you! Let me know if you have questions. I don't have a page, but will watch yours!

Jamie: May all go well with your surgery. Follow the rehab exercise directions - it is the best way to recover. My prayers are with you, that all goes well.

My Mom was in her 80's when she fell and broke her arm going into the shoulder and leg going into the hip. (3 surgeries over 8 hours in Switerland). Once she returned to the USA to a hospital for rehab (stretcher flight back with a paramedic) - the doctors and nurses, thought she would be in a wheel chair the rest of her life. She sure showed them: 4 months later she was off to Maine on Holiday by herself - not even a cane (she had already climbed a ladder to pick plums - not smart). It has been 4 years and she is still doing her rehab exercises every morning - at 86 y/o. Drive & determination - you can do what you set out to do, if you believe in yourself and are willing to work for it. My prayers are with you.

PS if you read this today (Wednesday USA) - you may enjoy my seductive video from 1962 - It's not me (I could be pretty seductive back then - for hubby.)

Jamie, take care of yourself. And listen to the doctors! Don't go off trying to do something when they tell you not to! Listen to your wife! Life will be a lot easier if you do!

Hi Jamie! Glad to hear that you got your shoulder problem corrected, but sad to hear you will be immobolized for several weeks. Get Gus to do all the heavy lifting for you, and get well soon! Cheers!

Jamie - I turned a couple of pages in your honor - to get to Ian's ire.

Your health was inquired about, several times - worried for you. Our prayers have been with you.

Glad to see you post. 4 weeks - Does that mean you can't grade any tests for that long?

You've been missed?

Hi Jamie! Just a quick suggestion..My husband found that sleeping in his recliner was much more condusive to sleep than trying to find a comfy position in the bed.

Hello Jamie. How's the shoulder doing? I hope it isn't causing you too much aggravation. Are you starting to gear down for retirement? Won't be more then a few months now will it? Good luck with everything.

Jamie, that is unreal, about privacy and legality issues, I had NO IDEA! like the kids do not compare grades the minute they get out of the door of your class. IDIOTS who make such rules. The pendulum has swung too far.

I have a math story that might interest you. I went back to college as an adult, nursing school. somewhere along, just before we were considered barely educated enough to give meds to patients, under supervision, we had to pass a math test. the test was figuring medication doseage. Converting mg per CC to a required amount to give, Changing CC to Miniums, and other medical stuff. Pass/fail, 85% accuracy required. practice test and two attempts to pass the test. If you did not, after all that, out of nursing program.

NOW, the way these nursing professors were teaching this, there were many many formulas that had to be learned, and if you forgot the formula, you could not work the problem. Stress makes me nervous, and forgetful.

When I was preparing for this test, I figured, there had to be some easier way to do this without all those formulas, some way that would be more accurate in the real world too.

I began working the homework problems with ratio and porportion. Checking my answers with the formula answers. In the second or third decimal space, or in fractions with large denominators, I might be off one number, ( 12/64 instead of 13/64 as example) but it would not change the amount of medication I would give. So I worked them with R and P on the "trial test" , and my instructor marked ALL of them wrong. all the instructors were checking was the results. I scheduled a meeting with both insturctors, and we had a discussion on math. Seems I knew a LOT more math than my insturctors, those formulas were the ONLY way they could work a problem! ratio and porportion was greek to them. But since I was an adult with a very high GPA, and talked nicely to them, they agreed to take my paper and thier paper to the math department and have them check.

The head of math dept looked at them and said my method and answers were perfectly right, and probably more accurate than thier formulas and with a much less chance of an error than using thier formulas!! Also asked why I had not taken any math there (one of the things I took right our of high school and was allowed to transer) AND I got to use that method on the final test, and he would check it for them. I made 100%!

Wow, Jamie! Seems like you've had a busy couple of months! I hope your holidays were joyous, and I'm glad to see you're recovering well from surgery. And I love Molly! She is just adorable! But I still like seeing Gus, too.
I finally got a new computer, so I'm back to playing as usual. But it seems that lately the Easy game has been averaging at least 7 pages a day, and that's just too much to catch up on!
Well, I hope you have a fantastic week! (And keep doing your exercises!)

Here's a little exercise to check your math skills. I got it in three different e-mails yesterday. Anybody else tried it yet? Jamie, maybe your math students could have some fun with this one!!
Here is a little puzzle which will keep your brain thinking:
There are 7 girls in a bus
Each girl has 7 backpacks.
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats.

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

LOL jamie, it doesn't say they are going anywhere, so no driver is needed apparently. You don't count a driver because none is mentioned. My biggest question is "What school do they go to that they need to carry around 7 backpacks?"

Green Gus. Oh my, you or someone (I imagine that your shoulder would still be too sore to paint) went through a lot of trouble for St. Paddy! Kind of reminds me of when I taught kindergarten. One of my very overweight student was painted green to resemble the Hulk for Halloween.

Hi Jamie,
I have cousins visiting Texas right now. They have been there three weeks and just love it.She told me that they have a choice of 75 activities...Today is 'Les Retrouvailles' meeting all francophones...with 80 tickets sold. Guess we are a bit everywhere. They usually spend all winter in Florida.

Hi again Jamie, There are several state universities in the Maine system: University of Southern Maine (USM), University of Maine,Augusta (UMA), University of Maine @Orono (UMO), University of Maine @Fort Kent (way up north in "the county"!) and one or two that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head. I would guess either USM or UMO for theater. My husband went to USM and I currently attend UMA.

The Irish-ape, Gus is adorable. Is his residence in your own yard?

Jamie, so sorry about the latest development with Jeanie's mom. It's so hard on everyone dealing with the problems of aging parents. Just now took a look at your Alaska photos. So glad you were able to take that trip to "get away from it all" for a little while. Looks like you saw some wonderful sights & enjoyed yourselves. Have also marveled at the many changes Gus has gone through since Christmas!! How many coats of paint must he have on him by now???? Glad he had a few good finds on his Easter egg hunt. Hope you & all your family have a nice Easter. Also hope your shoulder is feeling much better. Are you done with physical therapy yet?
