Anne, thank you for the reply to my query about cameras. Yours sounds like a Lifetime Camera - you'll probably keep on finding new things to do with it for ages. I think Imogen will probably end up with a cheaper one as she is nervous about someone pinching it. She is quite excited about her trip and she hasnt even booked her ticket yet, but is still investigating travel agencies. She asked me (to ask you) which travel agency you used when you went to Peru? A lot of them seem to cater for young people and aren't too expensive but she feels that a lot of the people who go on these are the type who just want to meet other travellers rather than to meet people who live there and 'drink in' the country (this sounds horribly confused, but I'm sure you will know what I mean?). She is looking at travelling with a smaller group. (This is after she has finished counting the turtles). I hope all is well with you and yours. Thanks again, Anne. Cheers, Gillian

Anne hope you are having a wonderful time with your family and loving these precious moments, my kids will in almost all probability be off this year to university and I am not sure how I am going to feel about that I like them around the place making a mess.. sigh

GIBLET from Victoria, Hello Gillian,
I thought I had better write now or it would probably skip my mind. I actually booked my trip through our local travel agent, Jetset, and they used World Expeditions. We didn't have much interaction with the locals, unfortunately, although we visited a couple of their houses, and a school on Lake Titicaca. When I arrived home I checked on websites about voluntary work and their are a couple of groups where you can stay with local people and help in various ways. There was even a segment on Getaway last night (8/3/07).
Perhaps Imogen can check one of these out as it would probably be a cheaper way to go and may be with younger people. We were with a group of 12 and that was a good number but mostly were about my age group. I do hope she has success in going the way you would like to. I would dearly love to go back for a few months and work among the people, but it's not possible for me right now.
Good luck to Imogen. Please let me know how she gets on with her inquiries.
Cheers,
Anne

Thanks for the offer of some U/W Chard. I'll tke you up on that next time I'm over there. Better still, you could throw away (in my direction) some of that awful Reisling and Sauv Blanc they make over there.
I promise not to bring any smart pills into your house.
I guessed I'd done the wrong with my response but I'm too busy to spend time finding my way around this site. Solving is about my limit. (Trying to earn enough to keep off the dog food diet for a while. Would you like some? You're welcome!)

Good morning Anne
Thanks for the Chardie yesterday. I parked a wee jar of my latest cumquat marmalade on your kitchen window-ledge. But forgot to go to your page to do it,LOL. Came across yesterday's vision of beehive, and think it would be a good idea to do a check on all those critters who used to frequent the place in those early days..where's Baz!?! Maybe GOM is one of them?? No, dont think so. Anyway, love your place..all that great stonework, and garden.
Robin

Anne, that's another beautiful photo on hard today. You really aught to hook up with the postcard people. Of course, you'd have to do something about the elephants. Wonder why he went so far out into the ocean?

Ruby - the rock formation does resemble an elephant a bit, doesn't it. Thanks for your lovely compliments about my photos. I've always loved photography and had a camera since I was 8yo. I'd be lost without one.

Anne, thanks for the welcome home. We had a fabulous adventure. It was undoubtedly the most educational trip we have ever taken. I thought of you the day we hiked up to the Gate of the Sun at Machu Picchu. Passed a group at the end of their hike down the Inca Trail & realized you had walked where we were. The coca tea was a huge help to me in overcoming the effects of the altitude. I felt much better in Peru than I did when I hiked in Colorado! Today we will work on posting some of our photos on Flickr. Between our two cameras we have over 2000 to choose from!!

Hi Anne,
Thank you for your flowers. How did you know I loved sunflowers? I've only been a SM for a week or so now, my sister (Karen/Sydney) arranged it for me as a birthday present. I had been thinking about doing it for some time but had never gotten around to taking the plunge. I will be regularly updating my photos of my gorgeous offspring so please drop in any time.
Love your photo collage, though I couldn't make out your teddy for some time for some reason. Must have still had my eyes closed!
