Thanks for the birthday wishes Greg. I **PLAN** to run my best ever marathon time this year - let's just see how that goes. My brother and his family were out here around six weeks ago and I've been persuaded to run the Ottawa marathon some time in the next couple of years. Apparently part of the course goes right past their house and they want to be able to lounge around with their coffees while I suffer!

Thank you for the warm welcome. As far as my name's origin my research shows its Greek. But the family story is its the name of my Dad's first girlfriend. That isn't as ominous as it sounds - she was a little girl from his child hood. My Mom liked the name.

Hi Greg ... I live in Kemptville which is just a stone's throw from Ottawa. Until April of last year I worked in Ottawa and my husband still does. Thanks for the welcome; there are so many nice people on this site.

Alas, your good suggestion for Plum to use snow chains is unfortunately outlawed on Michigan roads.
(Not sure about any laws prohibiting use only on her own driveway, though.)

Loved looking at your pictures. We spent 2 days at the Falls a few years ago when we visited with our family in Kitchiner, Ontario. This year we hope to do the Canadian Rockies by train and then cruise to Alaska from Vancouver.
That was interesting about your parents, as I have just retired from Queen's after 31 years. I also studied part-time and graduated from there 7 years ago.
I have been "doing" my family trees for many years and this keeps me really busy.

So far my celebration has consisted of sitting at the computer, not too strenuous! lol

It's quite rare that I comment under any nom de plume. Just too busy. I do have to stir the pot once every couple months. I exchange mail with, maybe 20 + people. Greg, you take care.

Greg - don't know about Rip Van Winkle, but "retirement" has been interesting! I just finished a 3.5 month subbing job at one of the middle schools, and will do the last 6+ weeks to finish the year at the high school! So I will have taught over half the year, not counting a number of single days here and there - for a LOT less money, too. I had to have cataract surgery on both eyes, and my part of the bills was quite a bit, thus the working.
Maybe next year. Jeanie and I ARE going to Hawaii for a week the end of March, and we are hoping to go to Florida late summer to see one of the last space shuttle launches. We will see what the fall brings.
Thanks for asking - probably gave you way more than you wanted.
How are things in the great north?

Greg - I had one eye done last August and the other done in December. I am very pleased with the results, just not the bills. At least I wasn't pleased with those bills until yesterday. I went to get my hearing checked (I knew it was getting bad) - need hearing aids, and my insurance isn't going to cover a penny of it!
