Hey Lil Sis! Just came by to check out your roses...OH MY GOD! They are stunning! I can't believe your yard is so perfect when Spring just sprung! My favorites are 'Just Joey' and 'Double Delight' - but they're all so beautiful.
Also - to Christopher! quite a lot going on 40 years ago!!!

Hello Rolanda

Yes, it is Scotsdale Road although we arrived at the Winery via a different road but I can't remember the name of it and my local map doesn't go that far out of town.
I think the name of the Winery is Lake House Winery or something similar. We had a very nice lunch there and of course, the drive was spectacular as always around Denmark.
Cheers

Hi Rola
I have put heaps of pictures on my Flikr page - I went to Herdsman Lake on Friday for training nearby and the Kelmscott Show yesterday and a little stroll in the bush this morning. So I have been busy adding pictures - all I need are identification of what I have photographed!

I think your rose - double delight would have taken out a prize at the show. How have you been?

Rola for your birthday message. I love your roses. My garden is one thing that I really miss up here. Not much room even for pots on the balcony, and roses don't like the humidity much either!

Thnaks for the TOPPs info Rola. I guess I find it curious that folks post up to ten or more pages a day on the SA page and the vast majority of the posts are just people trying to get to a new page to get a TOPP but posting multiple times. C'est la vie I guess.

Rolanda - what glorious roses! I can't believe they were in your garden and I didn't see them. I saw the back garden but not the front. I love roses!
Really just calling by to wish Peter for today from Colin and I. Sorry I'm late but only just got on site. Tell him he's in good company sharing a birthday with my Mum - 86 today - and of course Gail's son. Enjoy your day, Peter!!

Good morning Rolanda! It was nice to hear from you! I'm glad your visit with Rena and Amber went well. You must be exhausted?! Yess...I would like to try to meet sometime, perhaps during the school holidays? Maybe we can arrange to meet somewhere central to save us all a long journey? I enjoyed looking thru' your photo gallery. It looks like you managed to pack PLENTY of outings in during Rena and Amber's visit! All the best! We'll chat soon!

Hi Rolanda, Rena and I had a great day at a wildlife park. Got to cuddle a koala and feed the kangaroos. Lots of other animals too. Unfortunately we spent so long there we could only walk along the beach rather than swim. I think she's having a good time. The IndianPacific had an engineering problem that held them up a few hours.

Hi, Rolanda! Thank you so much for the birthday greetings. As always, birthdays here in Sudokuland last 2 days, so I really don't start celebrating until tomorrow, our Thanksgiving. Thanks for the kind greeting and warm thoughts. Have a great day, both today and tomorrow!

So, the boys are fighting it out over the Maths problem on my page? They can't agree on an answer? It's been ages and I haven't got an answer yet.

Your rose is a "triple delight" when happened upon unexpectedly!

You posted about putting out shoes tonight. My hubby decided long ago to come up with a custom holiday tradition just for him and our (then) young girls. So he chose February 2nd, Ground Hog's Day here in North America when the ground hog is supposed to come up out of his den where he's been hibernating and take a look around to judge how much longer winter is going to last. The saying goes if he sees his shadow there are 6 more weeks of winter, but if it's cloudy and no shadow there will be an early spring. It's based on a German tradition that came to America and occurs halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox.
Anyway, and this is unique to our family, our family tradition states that, like Santa Claus et al. and the Easter Bunny, the Ground Hog travels to the homes of "true believers" and puts snacks in the shoes or boots left outside the door for him to fill. The rules: only one boot or shoe per person and if it's snowy one may put out a boot, but if it's not snowy one must put out a shoe. And dad gets to put out a boot or shoe, too, which is huge and gets filled to the brim (bottled milk and microwave popcorn helps fill the workboots).

The most hilarious thing happened one year when we were on a rare vacation in Florida (palm trees and warmth) Feb. 2nd. Luckily, our 7th story hotel room had a sliding door and a small balcony. The girls were amazed that the Ground Hog found them, even in Florida, and wondered how the Ground Hog managed to get up to the balcony. While they were wondering this (and while waving their snacks and their breakfast around in their amazement) seagulls started swooping right into the balcony space. We adults knew it was because they were trying to snatch food, but to the young girls it was forever the answer to the Ground Hog dilemma: it seems the Ground Hog has the birds fly the treats to the balconies that he can't reach himself!

Hope your shoes and your hearts are filled to overflowing.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks for responding - it is a lovely flower & considered that your weather may be long dry seasons were succulents are prevelent. There are so many that have beautiful flowers. Cactus & Epiphyllums both have beautiful blooms. I had about a 5' high Jade Tree (succulent - no flowers) in So. Cal. Also had a Leptospermum, a Coral Tree & a couple of Plumaria (which had to be brought inside during the winter). I did have a greenhouse, but used it for orchids, other than the Cymbidiums which grew easily outdoors.

With the deer and the weather here in So. Oregon, it is completely different. I have only seen one Leptospernum around these parts. Too cold for many plants, I use to grow; but Spring is beautiful here with many bulbs, wild daffodils, iris, Rhododendrons, Peony, berries, vineyards. The many colors of the new growth on trees (the most prevalent plant) is topped off in the autumn with fantastic color displays (something missing in So. Calif - accept for Liquid Ambers).

Hi Rolanda thanks for the welcome. The valley is a nice place to be isn't it. Shame when you live in the middle of it you never seem to get out and enjoy it enough... hopefully when the weather gets a bit better, will just do that.
