Thank you for the welcome. I know Troy, i'll be driving by it today up I-75 as I head to Minster to see my Mom at the nursing home. I live in Cincinnati. I enjoy sudoku to unwind before bed. The community is pretty neat, i enjoy reading the posts. Have a great day!

It's still 25/May/11 here too - I'll have to check that picture next year & see if it gets another birthday comment. The upsetting thing is that, while it was taken with my camera, I was not the photographer.

Barbara and Hal, what a long and I'm sure loving relationship you two have shared. I'm sure there were ups and downs, and that you have lots of both wonderful and sad memories, but most importantly, the two of you have had 50 years of shared joy and sorrow together. Congratulations on your 50th anniversary. I am happy for you.

Happy 50th Hal, it is actually quite an achievement these days. It means that you both have survived the inevitable lumps and bumps of marriage and come out smiling together at the end of a marathon period. But it is the happy, loving times that count most and Anne and I wish you many more in the years to come. Congratulations.

Hal, thanks for your reply. I don't claim to be a photographer. There are many, yourself included, who take better photos than I do. Nal/Miami is I think my favourite photographer. Her fabulous photos can be found at

In answer to your question, I use two cameras, mostly I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ7 because it takes reasonable photos and it is not as cumbersome as the SLR which is a Pentax K 100D with a 28 - 300 zoom lens. Both cameras are ageing now and there are many better cameras on the market. My wife, Anne, uses a Panasonic Lumix DMC - TZ10 which has a 12x lens and is a serious little pocket(!) camera. She allows me to use it occasionally.

Hal, your Mom did fabulous work with that quilt and I'm sure all the others she made. I can see them being passed down through future generations. What a beautiful memory and tradition that will be.

Glad you liked my poem. It is kind of unnerving posting where all the world can see. I work with elementary school "reluctant learners" so I dabble in juvenile humor.

Hal, sorry to inform you but that poem keeps getting blocked by the automatic word censor, a word in a word...something to do with what grows in the garden! Maybe try an * for the o.

Hello Mr HalT - thanks for checking out my photos and for your comments. Some parts are similar to places in the N.T. and I love visiting up there. This is the first time I've been up there when the wildflowers are in bloom. Our state is known as the Wildflower State.

Did the Mills Brothers sing that? It's from Porgy and Bess. Somehow I got the feeling the Mills Brothers had stopped singing by the time that came out in the late l930s.

Re the "10 messages a day" thing - I have complained to Gath about this as I used to reply individually to the riddlers each day but soon realised I'd used up my quota in a few minutes and couldn't communicate with anyone after that for 24 hours! Apparently if you are a supporting member, this doesn't happen...but, yes, it is a nuisance!

Hal, I just wanted to wish you well with the results of your tests. I think if they had discovered anything seriously wrong you would be in hospital by now having things done to you. It's a good time to be optimistic.

Hi Halt,
Thanks for evaluating the two versions of the 'TODAY' postings on My Page. I'll keep both versions there, because you like the first - and I like the second.
By the second version, I had found and used a higher resolution image of the (otherwise same) 'fireweed' illustration (top right). The result is that picture becomes much clearer. I also improved the quality of the neighbouring picture to that by tarting it up with 'Paint'.
In fact the 'fireweed' photograph is the best one of that plant I have ever seen. The clarity of the larger image is superb. I am particularly fond of 'fireweed' (latin name Chamaenerion angustifolium), because I once did a research study on tagged spikes in a London common. I studied the phenology (floret development) in association with visiting pollinators (honey bees and bumble bees). I found that bumble bees visited the endemic variant and honey bees the introduced variant (from Europe). As far I remember the stamens release their pollen first, then older florets present their stigmas to receive pollen from further insect visits; presumably then providing nectar.
Nature is very efficient.
The other flower is actually popularly named the "Yesterday Today and Tomorrow" plant, so I thought that was appropriate.
Thanks again for your encouraging comments.

Hello Hal - once again, thank you for your very nice and witty comments on my photos.
You asked a question about some structure on a photo near the Windfarm. It's just wooden steps down to the rocks and beach below as you get a few keen fishermen there. If they catch too much it's a hard struggle back up those steps. There's a few hundred of them.
