I was pleased to see you are still around. You have been in my thoughts a lot lately so I thought I would pop in and say gday.
I hope you and your family are all well. I have missed our chats, but I have not been at the computer as much as I used to, life seems to be getting in the way.
Take care, and maybe one day we might be able to catch up again.

Hi, Appy. I've been thinking about you quite a bit since you expressed concern on the site about the Indian students bashings that have been happening here. Some of the responses at that time obviously frustrated you - and possibly hurt you.
Since then, there has been a lot of action, by students, governments and police. Locally, there have been many expressions of alarm and outrage about the attacks and there are real attempts to address the concerns.
Unfortunately, there are some very ugly people out there who seem to get their kicks from creating public outrage and so further attacks have occurred. These people are cowards and bullies full of hate and some misguided sense of their own superiority. Of course, they act in packs, too gutless to act alone. They have chosen Indian students as their victims at this time, but their kind of racism is such that they are likely to attck anyone who is perceived as different and an easy target.
I am sorry that these things are causing so much concern for the students and their home country. I hope the message is getting through that these are the actions of an ugly, prejudiced minority and that most Australians - and we are a very multicultural lot - abhor this kind of thing.

Thanks for posting those photos of the eclipse Anu. What an amazing experience you and everyone else in India and other south Asian countries had a chance to experience. I only wish I could have seen it in person. How have you been? I rarely see you on the site anymore. I hope you and all your loved ones are keeping well. Cheers!

Anu,
At your urging blurb, I had to visit your page to find out what was so interesting. It has been some time since I was last here, so to say that I found the sign interesting, is true, but more importantly, I have enjoyed going through your wonderful gallery of pictures. I had seen a few before, but many were new to me and covered so many places in this wide world....I really have enjoyed myself...and I have also chatted far longer than I expected.

Dear Anu,
I was pleasantly surprised by your message - and thanks a lot. It sounds like medicine in India is pretty much like in the States... so it's best to be rich and healthy rather than sick and poor :-(
I do the puzzles just about every day, but seldom leave comments. Then Jerry's stupid joke got my hackles up (later saw the comments by Gail, Saylz, Jane and Glinda) so I answered him. And I'm glad there are still comments coming in about US health care. It seems incredible to me that one of the wealthiest nations in the world has no NHS - leaving the middle class uncovered.
This morning's paper La Repubblica - the only one Berlusconi (another sore point) can't control - had a feature article about 'Doctor Obama' - 'The Inferno of the American Patient'. What I found most interesting were the statistics from the WHO (World Health Organisation) about public health classifications: the USA is in 37th place and Italy is in 2nd place.
All NH schemes have their faults, but they have to exist.
Oh... I have seen on TV recently - I think BBC World - that people (probably the English) go to India for surgery, they have excellent care and results at a fraction of the cost at home. I haven't seen any such ads lately - can you confirm? I know my son comes from the US to Rome for health problems and the hospital plus flight etc. costs a fraction of what he would pay in the US.
Thanks again for your comments. I have followed you since the days when you were 'AP' and we didn't have to be registered to leave comments. I love your jokes.
Cheers,
Helen

Anu, I watched it, it was wonderful. Lovely to see you and to hear of the history of the dolls. I can't imagine that some of them are over 100yrs old, such history. I noticed that you said it is important for them to be passed to the girls in the generation...does it have to be the girls or tradition? Thanks again for sharing. Lovely to chat with you today xx
