Hi Victoria! I know what you mean! My son Brendan will be 18 in just over a week! (although, here you can't drink until you're 21) We just dropped him off at college on Friday! They do grow up so fast!
Have a great celebration! Cheers!

Hi Vicki! Sorry I missed wishing James a Happy 18th Birthday - hope he had a fun celebration
Seems there are several of you with 18 year old sons - Rola, you, & soon Stella. I got a kick out of your story about Reggie jumping into your lap!
Guess you probably weren't laughing at the time. Funny how we can forgive our dogs for the naughty things they do & still love them so much. Just like our children when you think about it!! Have a great day.

Thanks for your nice note, Vicki. Things were very iffy for a while, and areas near me are devastated, but me and mine are fine. I hope all is well with you. XO

Victoria for your lovely welcome message. Yes it is nice to find another member from around Brisbane. We are actually at Mt Cotton in Redlands. I was a bit confused about Fernlands but when I read on to Ferny Hills I know where that is (sort of). You know, south side, north side, often we don't get across into one another's territory! Great to hear from you.

Victoria, I'm steaming mad at your SIL. How dare she when you and your hubby have cared for your MIL on a daily basis! I know the hard work you have to put in since I must care for my parents, (dad has diabetes and is legally blind and mom has Alzheimer's disease) YOU keep the diamond ring since it's your MIL acknowledgement of all the care you have lovingly put in for her. Don't cheapen her request since she wants you to know how much she appreciates you.

You sound a bit like us, birthdays don't come in singles, they come in a mass lump right at the end of the year! Didn't think this out to well, did we?
The 'Chrissy' word is not allowed to be mentioned in our house till the middle of November, and even then, you say it, then DUCK! Bah humbug!

Hi Victoria, I just thought I would pop in to say hello (I have before but didn't leave a message). You mentioned on Broni's page that your father was in the RAAF, my dad was too. That is how I got to live in Dubbo because he was posted here 33 years ago!

Hi Victoria, thanks for the bubbly! Not an original Queenslander been up here for 11yrs and love it, but do miss Melbourne sometimes...except the cold!
My Dad was in the Navy, he would be so proud of me now that I have a bay crusier.

Hi Victoria, isn't it a small world? My dad was at Rathmines in the early 50's after he got married (to my mum). My husband and I visited the base (what's left) last year when we were visiting my daughter who lived at Newscastle at the time.(She is on a working holiday in England at the moment.) Most of the RAAF bases that I lived on have been closed now. Toowoomba 7SD, Dubbo 2SD, Fairburn ACT, Malalar, SA. My sisters and I visited Melbourne four years ago and went to our house in Mt Waverley which we left when I was eight.

Hi Victoria,
Thanks for the welcome wishes,
May you and your family enjoy a joyful Christmas with the traditional gifts of peace and hope (rather than tinsel and rampant consumerism which always threatens to pervade).
I always do lemon cordial for Christmas pressies. Love that home-made feel. I used to have a lemon tree in Victoria but up here we have a lime. I'm actually going to make another couple of batches today and maybe mix some lemon and lime.... so here's yours
LEMON CORDIAL
Ingredients:
Juice of 7 large lemons
Grated rind of 5 large lemons
1 kg sugar
1.5 litres of water
25g citric acid
Method:
1.In a large pan, boil up sugar, water, grated peel and citric acid.
2.Take off the heat and add juice, If preferred, this may be strained.
3.Bottle whilst still hot into clean, sterilised (in oven ) bottles
Enjoy!! fi

Thanks Victoria - he's been offered Forensics and Criminology at Griffith Uni, so he'll be in Brisbane, which is not too far from here, about 2 and a half hours drive. Our eldest is at uni in Sydney, which is hard for me. As he drove away with his dad for his first semester in 2006 I held it together until the car was out of sight, then burst into tears. How pathetic! For me it is a happy / sad time watching them become adults and leave home.
Where do you live? I haven't heard of Fernlands. Tugun is about 1 hour from us and I can imagine it would have been a very ordinary holiday this year. Hopefully it was at least relaxing.

Okay, now I have my bearings. i could have looked it up - we have a Brisbane UBD for those rare occasions we need to go there.
I don't intend to let him bring his washing home - he knows how to use a washing machine and a vacuum cleaner and can cook very well. He should be fine, though he'll always be welcome to come home for a hug.
It's a shame Tugun wasn't fun, but I think everyone is pretty relieved with the rain - not only Brisbane was in crisis, the Gold Coast has also been very short of water.
I have three kids. The two boys are the same ages as yours. My eldest (20) is studying policing at UWS in Sydney, has finished his second year and is looking forward to the policeforce when he finishes. Middle child, the one who just finished the HSC is 18, is going to defer uni for 12 months and has just found P/T work and bought himself a small car. My daughter is 15.
Aren't they fun?
