Yes, Ian, what would we do without the gift of vision? I've never taken my eyes for granted, always wearing sunglasses even on cloudy days. How many times, during our travels, have we simply stopped to drink in a magnificent view? So difficult to imagine not having that ability ...
Wishing you a cheerful week full of beauty and laughter.

Hi Ian, I'm late in replying to your visit. I've been pondering how to get my avatar on and I DO appreciate your encouragement. I will keep practicing - right now I don't know the intelligent questions to ask... but I keep working on it. Glad you enjoyed your time in Kingston and the friendships you made while there. You have great pictures and I'm sure great stories to tell. Great motorhome, what a super way to travel, I wish you many wonderful years enjoying it. Loved your visit, thanks for dropping in. .

Thanks for your comment on my Hobart sunset shot, Ian. I don't know about doing it justice though, I'm no photographer and this was a lucky shot.
I got some good reflection shots whilst fishing the other day which I am quite happy with.
I also bought a new camera with a long range lens so maybe I can get some better shots of the ships that visit Hobart.

Cheryl, if you are having trouble working out which intelligent questions to ask, just go ahead and ask the dumb ones, someone will help.

Ian, I bought a Sony DSLR 200 - It came with the two lenses. Its a basic DSLR camera and I'm still learning how to use it.

As you say you can just bang away with a digital camera and hope for the best...

Hi there Ian. I thank you and Anne both for your birthday greetings. It made my birthday very special receiving messages from all over the world.
I was super impressed with your new recreational vehicle..... exactly what I would like to see the world but I think I'll start at home. Haven't been up through the centre yet or reached Darwin. I think when I get around to going overseas I might let someone else do the driving when I'm not satisfying one of my big passions... GREAT TRAIN JOURNEYS...
Hope you are well and none of the winter lurgies have caught up with the sudden changes in weather.
Bye for now.

Ian, thank you so much for the wonderful birthday wishes. No this is only 49! I updated my info a little early. Anyway it's just a year and I was reading somewhere that 50 is the new 30. I like that new kind of thinking and my daughters do a great job of keeping me young too. Thanks again and I hope that you have a wonderful day too!

Aimee :-)

Hello Ian, what a beautiful sunrise - a photo that you have to keep looking at. Mum is going to give me some RAAF notes that Bill Gravell wanted kept - he gave them to mum (cousins)to keep. She said she will give them to me as I told her you knew Bill and she wondered if you would know how best to preserve them. He destroyed a lot except for these. When you and Anne are in this part of the world this summer, I look forward to your advice.

Dear Ian and Anne,
Thank you for your support while I have been ill. I never expected such a response from this site, everyone’s concern and caring has overwhelmed me. I can only say that it is the genuine people here who make this a very unique place to share our hopes, dreams, ups and downs. So thank you for being there, and thanks for all the help with Rayray's project.

I have been to Wales four times visiting Brecon, our twin city. We have a very active twin city exchange. About 40 people from each community visit every 5 years on a 2 1/2 year schedule. We/they stay with families for about two weeks. We will be visiting the same family for the third time this autumn. They have stayed with us two times already, so we really develop a close friendship. ...And yes, the roads can be quite scary. Some two-way roads are narrower than our driveway!
But once in Devon our side mirrors were hitting both stone walls at the same time AND it was two-way!!! We were on our way to the local Pub and changed our minds because we'd NEED several drinks after driving on THAT road and then we'd have had to figure out how to get back to our B & B so we wouldn't chance getting arrested for driving under the influence!!

For those of you who are interested, these are some of the comments I sent to Debby -

" it is just great. It drives like a dream, no setting up to do, just switch off the engine and walk back inside to the dining and bedroom area. It has a shower and toilet, the usual refrigerator, gas stove, hot water service, microwave, two single beds (which is what we wanted), television (with inbuilt DVD player), radio and CD player and - wait for it - a washing machine! All this in a 24 ft motorhome. For the guys, it is mounted on a Mercedes Benz chassis with a 5 cylinder, turbo diesel engine, automatic transmission with cruise control.
There is a photo of it at the Camping and Caravan Show on my Flickr pages."

Many sudoku friends from around the world coming to visit me and wishing me a Happy Birthday have overwhelmed me.
My Husband and sons took me out to dinner to a Chinese Restaurant, and on the Sunday, we had a delicious Roast Dinner at MIL’s.

Yes I am, Ian. I think they're great. I'll never go back to a PC.

I was concerned that I had upset you. I tend to be a bit of an arguer, and I was concerned that I might have gone too far. I do want to apologize for that.

I hope you have a blast touring around. It sounds like fun.

Hi, Ian. Your comment about low-level flying brought back a rather scary memory. While stationed at Pope AFB in 1970-72, I had the misfortune of being on a mission with a young AC (aircraft commander, for those who are not familiar with the AF terminology) who was on his final flight before becoming a civilian airline pilot. He decided to take a close look at the beach near Myrtle Beach, SC. I was standing behind him as we paralleled the beach and watched the radar altimeter dip below 25 feet. He then flew inland over a remote area (still at a very low altitude) and I watched a fisherman fall backwards out of his boat as we passed directly over him.
In retrospect, I should have reported his actions, but I have to admit, I was having a great time.

Well Ian, your comment about old/bold pilots (which I first heard about 45 years ago) brought back more memories. I remember a mission in Viet Nam when we were trying to land at Tan Son Nhut which was surrounded by numerous t-storms. The nav was trying to get us through using radar. The AC said "I see a hole" and turned towards it. The nav said, "Sir, that's not a good way to go." We went anyway. Making a long story short: I could hear the noise of the hail over the engines as we went through the storm and we landed with a hole in the radome (it had to be replaced when we got back to Nha Trang). It was one hell of a scary ride.
I love 'war' stories.
